Welcome to NaNoWriMo 2008! We've got just over a month to go before we can hit the ground running, or typing as the case may be :) I'm hoping to see some familiar faces around here and some new people as well!

How about old, possibly unfamiliar faces that haven't participated in several years? :)

I'm a newb! Been kicking around the idea of writing a novel for years but I am a coward and an inveterate procrastinator. This might be what I need - I'm looking forward to this experience.

BTW - I live in downtown Bloomington.

Ditto.

Especially the "old" part. That'd be me, not tonamel.

I'm not committed to writing this year, yet. For the last month and a half I've been focused on caring for a dear friend recovering from brain surgery. But if all goes according to plan (mine, which hopefully coincides with the Divine), then by November 1, the major portion of my job will be complete. I'm not sure whether I'll be recovered enough, *myself*, to launch into NaNo, but I've got a couple of weeks to figure that out, right? Along with the small consideration of a topic. Hrm.

Anyway.

*waves to DecemberJuliet and to tonamel, although tonamel's face is but a wisp of something in my imagination*

Hello, I'm a NaNoWriMo noobie. I've never written more than a paper back in college or on my blog, and I'm already overloaded with projects I've committed to, but I've still decided to participate in NaNo this year. So I'm going to need all the motivation I can get.

Hi! I'm from Columbus, not Bloomington, but seeing as we Columbus-types do not have our own region, I am more than happy to write alongside you Bloomington-types.

I was going to take this year off, but I don't think I can deal with November without Nanowrimo, so I'm giving it a shot. I don't even have a solid idea yet. It's great to see other people climbing aboard. I'm sure it'll be a crazy ride. We'll be the unsung heroes and heroines of autumn (or we'll finally be committed).

Heartbeat, in 2006 I worked in Columbus, lived in Bloomington, and tried to compose my novel while cruising down highway 46. It worked for awhile, but I crashed at 25k words, exactly halfway through the month. The commute was great for planning scenes, but it robbed me of precious keyboard time. Too bad there wasn't a region there then either. Maybe you should start one.

How many NaNo people are in the Bloomington area? Do writing groups meet often during the month?

That's my question as well. I'm thinking of heading to Barnes & Noble by the mall early Nov. 1 and staking out a spot next to the outlets. I'll bring a power strip if anyone wants to join me. BYOS - Bring Your Own Starbucks.

I'll actually be in town on the first - though I don't have a laptop to write on, I guess I COULD use a notebook. >_<
The problem would be getting there, quite a bit of other stuff to do that day... I can probably be at B&N sometime the week leading up to NaNo too, if anything's going on then.... we'll see! :D

Not literally, I hope?

Anyway, I should probably do some world building. Yeah, that's probably a good idea... *procrastinates some more*

If anybody wants to blow off an hour on Nov 1, the Bloomington Chamber Singers are going to be performing Rachmaninov's Vespers at First United. chambersingers.info for more info!

Going to Barnes & Noble would be fun. I should be able to go to that :D Anyone else interested?

No, not literally. I realized after I posted that message that it was a poor choice of metaphors. See? I've already turned off my inner editor and I'm ready to go. I have to work on Nov. 1 so I'll probably not get to writing until later in the evening.

I recommend staying up and beginning your novel at Midnight the night before. There's something really cool about starting on Halloween night, or technically, right at the moment that Halloween ends and November begins.

Hi all! After utterly failing nanowrimo last year, I'm ready to get back on the horse. We'll see if writing a novel in a month is easier when you have a full time job instead of college classes. Eep...

I'm also hoping that instead of just lurking in the forums as I usually do, I'll actually be able to make it to some write-ins and such this time around.

Huzzah! Excitement!!

What tonamel said!
It's been several years since I first (and subsequently) tried (and failed at) NaNoWriMo. I don't even remember my username from back then, so I've got a new one.
I recognize some of the names already -- neat! Hello, decemberjuliet: You were our esteemed leader when once I trod these hallowed Intertubes. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Bou and Amy: Are you out there? It's me, your tall writing friend, with a new moniker.

I've been trying NaNo since '05 but just have never found a plot I can sink my teeth into long enough without a LOAD of research. But with a new job and a plot I think I can work on, if not at least drag out 50K I feel back in the game. I probably won't be joining in on the group writing as I'm sometimes painfully shy with people I know from the interenet and my laptop is perinially in the shop (it's a Dell, don't ask) but with enough prodding and white chocolate moca's I might be persuaded to leave my hold near Greene county (go Stanford!) and join the real writing folk. :)

I have to say that I agree. I'm new to NaNoWriMo, though not particularly new to writing. To say I'm scared of this novel writing project is an understatement--I'm petrified! It's two days until official novel starting and as of yet I have no characters, no plot, no location! I'm staying positive though. As I only have a part-time job, I clearly have enough time to write this novel. Motivation, however, is not my forte. I salute all you full-timers/college students out there! Stay strong and stay motivated!

Hi,

I'm a two time loser at Nano. I would already be behind this year except for that extra hour we got yesterday. :P

Because of that I'm all caught up and ready to win for once. I haven't participated in the community at all the last couple years, but I'm hoping to meet up with people this year. I'll try to attend this week's B&N.

I thought I posted a reply to this last night - erm, this morning - but I guess I didn't. That's odd ...

Anyway. I'm from Bloomington, and I trek back every weekend - mostly. Through the week I'm stuck in Vincennes for school (long story as to why I didn't go to IU). I doubt anyone from this campus is participating in NaNoWriMo, but if they are it would be awesome to meet up. Maybe I should inquire about this at some point in time ...

Not now though. Class in ten minutes. Aiyah~

I thought I would take off this year completely, as this month has just been impossible in terms of time, and I knew that in October. But, shoot, I figured I'd sit and bang away at the keys some tonight, if only to help out Bloomington in terms of total word count at the end.

So, this will be eight years I've done this, and still not a win in sight, but hey. We all do what we can.

Denise, thanks for always being the coordinator!! Nice to see you won again.

I may trot down to Rachel's to say hi to folks on the sixth.

Best to all,

Bou
