How you heard about NaNoWriMo: back in the day on Open Diary i ran across someone else who was planning on participating. I tried, and failed, and forgot about it until i ran across my old novel again and decided, what the heck! lets try again. Been here ever since.
Genre: Fiction (this time is historic (sci-fi) fiction
Working Title: Clockwork Revolution
A little about yourself or your Novel: I have yet to win a NaNoWriMo, but i have a feeling this is my year. My novel will take place in London 1860s and will be a steampunk based novel, heavy on the punk. My main focus will be on revolutionaries trying to overthrow the rich in power and cause as much chaos as possible. WOO! I cannot wait!

Nice to meet you all!

Years you have participated: a few years ago i tried - don't remember the exact year

How you heard about NaNoWriMo: misc.writing newsgroup

Genre: memoir ( typically i write murder mysteries but plan to dabble in this one for november)

Title: none yet - maybe Bend in the River

A little about yourself or your Novel: i love to read and write murder mysteries.
for november though i thought a memoir might have the advantage of built in plot and chronology.
it not that my life has been that newsworthy, but have been told i have a knack for capturing 'nostalgia'
for lack of a better word
now that i have lived long enough, my childhood is 'vintage', occurred during 'mid-century' (hmmm-that sounds like a
good piece to use in the story) and i am still young enough to remember a lot of it.

Location: Middle St. Pete area.
Age (optional): 22
Years you have participated: 2007, something like 58,000 words in 13 days. o_O I barely remember it. I think I may have been possessed, actually.
How you heard about NaNoWriMo: A pushy friend who put a gun to my head... I mean, my best friend.
Genre: Er? I'm not sure. I kind of decide that after it's written.
Working Title: HA! Yea, right.
A little about yourself or your Novel: I'm a semester and a half away from graduating, (USF St. Pete) writing my thesis and I'm a poor multitasker, so needless to say... my thesis director is going to be VERY grumpy with me come this November. I'm driven mostly by a pure, unrelenting competitive nature, which is how I wrote over 50k in 13 days. I hope to at least match that, or my ego will curl up in a corner and die. But who needs one of those, anyway?

How you heard about NaNoWriMo: On someone's diary on diaryland
Genre: Paranormal Suspense
Working Title: Complete Clarity
A little about yourself or your Novel: I haven't won a NaNo yet, but this just may be my year. Even if I don't finish, I love the excitement of knowing that so many people all over the world are doing the same thing I am doing, and it's a great way to jump-start into a new novel. Complete Clarity is the second in a series, the first of which I started in NaNo 2006. I am very excited about this series and have mapped out the titles and basic plotlines of each of them (there are six, altogether).

Genre: Yes, I have on of those.

Working Title: You can call me Your Highness. My book is title free currently.

A little about yourself or your Novel: I'm feisty, pushy, and love write ins. I'm headed to DC during the latter part of the month and only WISH it were Florida. Florida in November...yum.

My novel is an underformed thing, currently consisting of two index cards with single character names on them. I'd be more concerned but this is how last year started and that went fine.

Happy upcoming birthday!

I admire anyone who can write a memoir. I start then get bored with myself and suddenly aliens are invading which I'm pretty sure hasn't happened to me IRL as I'm not a Scientologist. I can't wait to read a passage or two of yours!

How you heard about NaNoWriMo: Um... no idea. Some website, somewhere.

Genre: Uh... action / sci-fi / tiiiny bit of romance / rockin'-awesome?

Working Title: Paradigm Shift (oooooo, spooky!)

A little about yourself or your Novel: Oofa. Well, I've always loved loved loved to read, so writing was just sort of natural progression, and I want to be a professional writer, yadda yadda yadda. Ya'll have heard all this before, I'm sure.

Uh, my book is about Carson Green and his E.R.I.C. (Experimental Research Investigation and Conatainment) team, findin' weird stuff and taking care of it. Anyway, one of the weird things is this little northwest coast town where the people have started, y'know, changing, so the Govn't wants to destroy them and make it look like a natural disaster, E.R.I.C. is like no way, and it's this whole big thing.

There's more to it then that, of course, but that's basically the gist of it.

A little about yourself or your Novel: Recently I've been playing an ARG (alternate reality game, meaning someone sets up a puzzle, usually online, that takes a group of people trying to put the pieces together. It's an interesting form of collective fiction). Anyway, the one I've been in involves communication with spirits via internet phenomena and static sound clips, etc, so I was thinking it would make a cool story if an ARG along similar lines turned out to be real. Real spirits, real world happenings. I have very little idea of what exactly I'll be doing with this, but it seemed like an interesting idea.

If your parents want to talk to some of us on the phone to help ease their minds, I'm sure I'm not the only person who would be willing to do that. I know I was crazy nervous the first time I went to a meet-up three years ago, but it was fine. I'm not sure how many of the meet-ups I'll be able to get to so I may not be the best choice, but I wanted to put this out here as a thought.

Any people who will be more regularly attending meet-ups and write-ins want to offer moral support for anxious parents?

[edit]As an afterthought, if you would like to get in contact with me by phone, send me a NaNoMail and I'll give you my number. I don't like putting it out publicly, but if you message me wanting to have your parents talk to me, it's cool. ^^

Attention Pre-Adults:
Well, what do I respectfully call you? You're not pre-teens anymore. Coal miners. Cool minors.

I suggest you check out Nanowrimo's Young Writers Program http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/ and get your parent/guardians involved and on board with your word-count goals. There is even a page with a sweet letter to parent/guardians on the YWP website. http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/lettertoparents There don't seem to be defined forums on that site but maybe that will change before November is here.

If my kid told me he wanted to go to a meetup, I'd go with him to it. My kid is 2 so he won't be telling me that anytime soon.

Did you tell your English teacher about this? Did he/she have an interesting reaction?

I'm going to post this in the main area to start a new thread. Hope you reply there!

If I get to 50000 great, if not I will be happy with whatever I do get to. Looking to develop the habit of writing. Not going to restrict what I write about any way if I can help it (poitics, religion, sex, etc)

Other: Grad student at UF, undergrad degree in Geography from USF, working on masters in urban and regional planning, computer programming experience, enjoy sports, affected profoundly by my reading of atlas shrugged and subsequent psychological turmoil, enjoy reading books where philisophical questions are at least part of the plot, action-packed novels, and assorted others.

Favorite readings include many sci-fi/fantasy novels: Brittain's Yurt series, Xanth novels, Recluse novels, Black Company novels, some Asimov, S.M. Sirling and David Drake's General books, Han Solo adventures, Prophet of Lamath books, Phule's Company, several of the Wing Commander books, Dietz and some Lackey stuff, Hunt for Red October, Jurassic Park, Shakespeare sonnets, assorted poetry anthologies, assorted speeches including: Socrates Speech following his conviction and (*edited) Pericles' eulogy to fallen soldiers, archie comic books, etc.

That should be more than enough info ;)
