Hey there, fellow Trumanites!

Okay, there's this cool thing I want to do this year. I want to film a documentary about us, the Truman NaNoers. It'll be brilliant, I promise--dramatic, yet humorous. Exuberant, yet insightful. With clearly staged moments of epiphany and background music performed entirely by kazoo quartet.

Who's with me? :D

Ooh, ooh! I'm considering going there... Can you give me an honest opinion of the school? All I've heard about it is from the website (skewed) and from people who have heard about it (possibly inaccurate)... I'm really curious about both the school and the town, and whether it's right for me

I'm glad to see that someone from Truman NaNos! I'm not there yet... but I will be there next year, I am 99.9% sure. I wish I was there now though... Kazoos sound amazing.

As to the person asking about Truman: I just visited there this weekend, and it blew me away. Reading about it or hearing about it is one thing, but seeing the campus and the great atmosphere is completely different. Don't listen to those who say it is in the middle of no where - the campus makes up for that in a lot of ways. The small classes sizes and great focus on academics (rather than sports teams, like some schools... Mizzou) make it a perfect fit for myself. I suggest you take a trip if you're real interested. I think it's a beautiful campus. All the trees made me really happy. :-D

Hullo from a fifth-year NaNo-er from Truman State!

For oreos, I have to say that I adore this school. I'm currently a sophomore, and have never felt so at home anywhere in my life. The classes are fun, the professors are amazing (with some exceptions, of course, but you'll find those anywhere...). It's small and intimate, which I greatly enjoy.

What are you thinking of majoring in? This will definitely affect how you feel about the college. We have amazing biology and education departments, and many of our other programs are almost as great.

I would definitely recommend visiting for a weekend; I believe there's a program that will allow you to stay overnight with an on-campus resident. It will give you a feel for the campus and the town, as well as introduce you to students and typical schedules.

The town itself is small, true, but we have enough to do to keep you busy on campus and we're only a 90 minute drive from Columbia. Students tend to go on weekend trips there to go to a nice restaraunt or visit the mall or things of that nature.

I hope this mini-description helped you a bit. If you have more questions, feel free to ask either here or through the message system; I'd love to help.

Howdy... this is my sixth year of NaNoWriMo and my fourth year at Truman. Don't know how this year's novel is going to go (senior year = busy), but I don't have internet or a television, so I won't have anything to sidetrack me. Maybe. If I'm lucky.

Ariaste, as you already know, I'm definitely interested in the documentary!

For everyone interested in Truman: it's a pretty good school. If I had to do things over I don't know if I'd come here again, but I've made some great friends and I've had a fairly good time here. Kirksville's a hole, but that's just part of the college experience. You just need to make your entertainment instead of go off and find it. (Unless you head up to Ottumwa or down to Columbia, haha.) The academics are also good. The LSP program - while annoying and/or frustrating at times - is a good way to explore new subjects and disciplines. If you have any questions, I'd be more than willing to answer them!

Ooh, yay! Fellow Nano-ites at Truman here once again!

This is my fourth year doing Nano, and my second year at Truman. I don't know how I'm going to squeeze Nano into my life this year, but I WILL DO IT!!!

Will there be any amazing Java Co meetings this year? I would really like to meet some Nano-ers over a picturesque mug of coffee. Perhaps some of the documentary should be filmed there!

Anyway, just a suggestion.

Hey guys! It's so exciting that people at Truman are doing Nano! This will be my fourth year doing Nano, and I'm a freshman at Truman right now. A little scared about how I'll fit it in, if possible, so I'll have to see... but I'm going to try! Every other year nobody around me did Nano, so if I do end up doing it it'll be fun!

Don't worry about fitting NaNo in... it's perfectly possible. Actually, back when I was a freshman, I (somehow) managed to hit the 50,000 word mark on the 10th of November. (I haven't been that successful since, but hey, at least it's possible!)

We all should definitely meet up a few times in November. And have a kick-off party. Maybe also a TGIF party. Hopefully we'll be more successful in this than in previous years, haha.

So, does everyone know what they're writing yet? I'm debating between rewriting last year's novel and/or possibly attempting a fantasy novel. I haven't written fantasy before, but it might be fun to try.

Oh my gosh I can't believe I actually found people from Truman that NaNo! Cool!

Since everyone else is getting introductions out of the way, I'm actually a first year NaNo-er, but I've been interesting the project for several years (I stumbled upon it one year during high school though never actually managed to get any ideas or words flowing), and I'm a freshman at Truman! I love, love, love this place! Kirksville is just so awesome, and Truman is like...almost the perfect campus. Nothing is too far, but nothing is too close. The classes are actually challenging, and (most) professors are outstanding! Not to mention you have intelligent conversation every single day of the week! Love this place.

...I actually have no idea what I'm going to be writing yet. I need to start jotting ideas down. Maybe I'll go buy a notebook from Wal-Mart (yeesh) and dub it my NaNo Notebook. I just know that I don't want to do anything too cliche or involved in romantics. I want to stray away from writing a sappy love novel, which is hard to do for me. I'll get around it somehow.

Hi! I'm also a freshman at Truman, and I absolutely love it! The classes are a good size, you can walk almost anywhere on campus in under 10 minutes, the people are polite, the classes I'm taking in my majors are wonderful (especially Linguistics, it rocks!), and I think it's an all-around great place. Of course, it's not necessarily the best place for everyone, and as the others have said, Oreos, it depends on your intended major, and on your personality and interests. But definitely take a look!

This is my second year attempting NaNo. I doubt I'll actually win; I didn't last year (just shy of 20K, so frustrating!!) and compared to this year I had boatloads of freetime, but I'll do my best. Hopefully this year I'll have more planning done ahead of time, which was my major problem last year. And this year I know that I need to have the red and green squiggly underlines in Word turned off if I want to get anything done.
I think I'll do a fantasy: medieval-style setting, sort of, with certain cultural differences; magic will be involved to some extent, but I don't think I'll have any non-human beings. I've got some characters figured out, but I'm having trouble with character names (as usual), and I need to do a lot more worldbuilding. Hopefully I'll at least have the worldbuilding done well enough before the 1st. I guess I'll use stand-in names if I have to, which I've never done before, but...

So, yeah.

Looking forward to it!

Wow! I completely forgot about this thread. :D

Welcome, everyone!

Okay, here's the schedule for write-ins this year: Every Monday and Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. On Mondays, we meet in McClain 306, and on Tuesdays in Baldwin 218.

There WILL BE a kickoff party! Come by Grim Hall's first-floor lounge--festivities will begin around 10:30, we'll start writing at the stroke of midnight, and the party will continue for as long as anyone is still there.

Finally, if you'd like to get on the email list (in case of any last-minute changes in plan), please shoot me a line to that effect at ajr1643@truman.edu. :D

Ooooh...I don't know if I'll go, since that is Halloween night, technically, but I'll see if I can make it, and possibly bring a few other people from my house who are NaNo-ing!
