A plot? Too many plots, and I seem to be adding them as we speak. I started with four, and another trip to the fantasy dare board has me with another one. And only a month to choose between them. At this rate, I'm just going to start writing on November 1st and see which one starts talking to me.
Roommate is fine, if stressed. I'll see about getting her over here to check in... when she has the time.
How've you been?

Here I am....Yay November!
write-ins? Here's hoping I can make some of them.
*hates working second shift*
Who's ready for another great year of characters not doing what you want them to do, plot malfunctions, and stocking up on caffiene?
*grins*

Fine and dandy, Lunae, fine and dandy. Hope she de-stresses in time for NaNo!
Meg, I don't even have characters or a plot yet! But at least there's plenty of Pepsi . . .

I have always wanted to do this program, but a busy life always gets in the way. I have notebooks of ideas just waiting for a chance. I hope to do something with them this November. Here is to finding time from no where.

Here I am, back for another year!
I'm already scouting places for weekly write-ins in Davenport, so anyone who is interested in meeting other Nano nuts and getting some writing done, keep your eyes here.
Glad to see familiar names and some new ones as well. Welcome back to those I know, and welcome in to those who are new.

Hey you. I was wondering when you were going to turn up.
So what's on tap for this year? The splatterpunk with the angel of vengeance and killing whoever happens to piss you off this time? ;-)
With the number of people we might have, it probably isn't wise to take over the Panera, is it? Although, it goes back to that one thing you were saying once about possibly Panera sponsoring us.

Wow, the QC is stuck in the "Iowa :: Elsewhere" category? Shouldn't we have our own section due to our extreme awesomeness?? ^_~
I'm actually in Madison, WI right now, but I grew up in the QC, and it looks like I might be in the area this Nov. So! Tell me all about the exciting things you folks have planned! I'd love to meet you and help out in any way I can (who's the QC ML this year?).

QC itself doesn't have an ML but bambier is the ML for the Iowa :: Elsewhere section.
What's this about Panera sponsoring y'all and/or taking it over?

Oh, a couple of us kept meeting up after NaNo was over, and Mina (as I recall) said something about how we spent so much time there, and spent so much money there that they should sponsor us. At least that way we'd get a discount on all the food we got there.
That's all.
I've thought about the ML thing, but the fact is, I wouldn't have time anyway. Especially since I'm due to start working shortly before NaNo's due to start.

in redact?
cause I heard we're getting in a whole bunch of redacters this week or next.
I wasn't gonna write this year b/c my life is a little crazy but I have my own goal. I just want to get back to writing something even if it's not the 50K. I'm also doing a genre change.
we'll see.

Yep. Back to redaction for me.
I'm not overly thrilled, but hey, at this point it's work after they decided to let me go for the past 3 months. *shrugs*
Well, glad to see you trying to write something anyway. Something's better than nothing.
For me, it's not such a genre change really. But I finally got something nailed down to write, and by this point, it's tradition. If I didn't shoot for the moon in NaNo, it would feel unnatural.
Thought about you the other day, though. Wondered how things were going.

May I humbly offer my services setting up a write-in at the Bettendorf Public Library at some point this November? I'll be starting a job there Nov. 10, but you don't actually need to work there to reserve a table in the cafe or a room upstairs. If that location is good for anyone, do let me know and I can try to set something up. (There can be treats. I love to bake.)
Happy noveling to you all!

Snacks? At a place where there is coffee?
*grins* I do love snacks and coffee. It gives me soemthing to do while I glare at my laptop.
I am up for it. I just have a wonky availability due to working 2nd shift at a local utility company.
I can't wait though!

Depends on availability of the people too. I want us to have some flexibility, like when we used Borders.
I've been scouting.
It's hard to find somewhere "perfect".
Perfect would need to include:
- Food
- Coffee
- Free WiFi
- Enough comfortable seating
- A power source
As for this year's choice, I have a few ideas in mind. Smut, of course. It's smut with a plot, but it's still smut. Then I've got some other ideas that I'm willing to rework, such as a sci-fi epic with different dimensions of this world touching for just an instant, long enough for someone to cross the border and make it into our world. I've not made up my mind yet.

Yeah, I work third shift. The last few days, if I wasn't working on the days y'all would meet, I had to be asleep at that time. It sucks. :S I've been doing NaNo for six years and have yet to get to an actual write-in.

I just moved to Quad Cities.
Not really planning to participate this year, as I'm still working on the novel I started during NaNoWriMo two years ago. LOL. But I would be happy to show up at write-ins and offer encouragement, etc. I'm published and have been at this a while.
You can see my data here: www.jerryjdavis.com
Good luck to everyone this November!

Hello to all.
I'm a first-timer here and a bit nervous yet excited about what's ahead. I've written two drafts of a novel before, plus have started several others, and am wondering a bit about completing one in this time frame. But I love a challenge!
Interested in learning more about the write-ins and any that are planned.

This is my 4th year NaNo, last 3 in central Iowa (West DsM) due to husband's job. I, too, am very surprised QC is not it's own region due to bi-state cultural activity being far more active than in DsM, imho.
We are Muscatine natives and returned after 15 years absence due to husband's massive stroke last year... my excuse for not winning NaNo '07. I'm a published poet & former newspaper columnist. Plot? Hahahaha, no. Poetry and memoir are my genre, not plots.
Somewhat surprised Muscatine doesn't have a NaNo group as Writers on the Avenue meet at bookstore cafe downtown here. The only Panera I know of in QC is at Elmore/Kimberly (within site of our former home in Dvpt). I haven't visited the "new" Bettendorf library yet. Does the cafe have only coffee/pastries or do they offer sandwiches/soups for starving writers?
What's up with Bucktown arts downtown Dvpt? Politics? If I have inserted my foot in mouth, email me privately :-)

LinLohLan: The cafe has all sorts of goodies, including sandwiches and soups. And very nice staff people. ^_^
Do people have particular day/time that works best for write-ins? I've never done them before, but I'd very much like to try to arrange and/or get to at least one this year. I'm sure we could get something going with the Bett. library or one of the other area libraries, or else Panera, as others have suggested. Any thoughts? (Though we still have a little time....)

I don't know if I check in yet and let you all know that I was gonna be putting my sanity on hold for 30 days yet again this year. I'm actually a lot busier than last year so I'm shooting for the 50K, but will, in fact, be very pleased if I finish up around 35K or so.
As for write-ins, after 6 on Wednesday, Friday (MAYBE Tuesdays, too). After 2 on Saturdays. I like Panera, food is good. I also liked meeting at the Border's but it sounds as though we'll have a bunch more people this year and that was a little jinky last year. I vote for anywhere that has coffee - but can we make it relatively cheap coffee? Augustana has a study area on the fifth floor - you don't have to be a student to use the library, but we should be quiter than usual. Bettendorf Library is good - I think they have some study rooms, so we can at least talk, same I think at Moline Library.
FYI, I will be driving myself around this year; my geezer is really busy on a project for work and it's just weird to have some creepy old guys stalking you all the time. :)
So, I'll see you in a few weeks! Back to outlining.

Just a heads up -- the QC is more than able to have their own region -- we just need someone to step up and volunteer to ML -- you can find more info under 'about' and 'becoming a municipal liaison'. I don't know that they'd open up the new region this year, but it can't hurt to ask so long as someone is willing to take on the responsibility. If nothing else, they'll know you're interested for next year!
Personally, I'd love to see the QC branch out and have someone step up to arrange the events. And I assure you - being an ML isn't really a scary thing. :)

I'd totally volunteer to ML for the QC! Although right now my plan wasn't to be back full time in the QC until Nov. 10. I could make an effort to be in town for the 1st, though, if people want to do a kick-off sort of thing. And/or I'd be happy to share duties with anyone else who's interested.
Let me know what you folks think, and I'll see about checking in with the NaNo Powers That Be.
