I never have a plot until mid-October. This year is the first I've had any plot ideas at all before October, and --just my luck-- I have too many to choose from. I don't think you're alone at all. I've seen people asking for plot ideas on Halloween.

I think therefore I'm dangerous. I write, therefore I am.

Yeah, I usually start planning pretty much as soon as November ends, then start over again mid-August... but this time I only have characters so far. I do still have more than a month, though, so I'm not too worried. (besides, if I do end up plotless on November first, there's nothing wrong with just writing. A plot will occur to me in the end. ; ))

I JUST thought of a plot idea today... and even then, I don't know if I'm gonna go with it. I don't even know much except for the very basic stuff, too! And basic stuff somehow doesn't seem to cover the middle or the end, lol

I just found mine a few days ago, but it's basically a rehash of a plot I thought of a long time ago and never got around to.

I have a basic -- and by that I mean very, very basic -- seed idea, but I in no way have anything I would call a plot by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not even sure I'm going to stick with the idea I have, because I'm not 100% confident I'll be able to turn it into enough of a plot to make a halfway decent novel. (In that case, it will just go in my "short story ideas" file.) It's not even October yet though, so I'm confident that I'll be ready by the time NaNo actually starts.

This year and last year were the first times that I knew what I was writing before the last four days in October! And I'm not even sure of everything this year. So don't worry - you'll be fine.

I rarely write any plots I come up with more than a week before NaNo. lol The chaos seems to suit me, because I've only lost once!

Hmm, let's see....
For my first nano I plotted and plotted and won.
Second nano, ducked out for family reasons.
Third nano, no plot. Started writing anyway, won.
Fourth nano, plotted in advance, got to 20k, hated the damn thing. Restarted on the 12th, finished on the 29th, not counting the original 20k (my un-official goal was for 70k anyway, good job!)

So am I plotting in advance this year? Um. I may bounce some ideas round. In all likelhood I'll work on one project, hate it and restart in the first few days !

I don't have a plot yet 'cause I've got like 12 ideas to choose from! *Ugh* Here's hoping that an idea hits me half way through October and I start fresh.

*sigh* I don't have a plot either, and it's driving me nuts. I'm waiting for a stroke of genius or even a little teensy plot idea, but no luck yet.

I have no plot in mind whatsoever. I have a list of some character and place names and a few random wikipedia entries that may or may not be involved in whatever it is I end up writing. Also have a few nice pieces of dialogue which, again, may or may not be used in November.

On the plus side, still have a little over a month to figure things out (hopefully).

I have a setting, characters, and some vague ideas for subplots. As for the overall plot... not a clue. I'm hoping if I keep stirring all the subplots around, something will eventually rise to the top.

I have nothing. No plot, no characters, no setting... :D It would help if I knew what Genre I wanted to do this year. But it'll be fine... with luck I'll think of something in a couple of weeks. Or if not, last year proved that I can come up with something on the first day of NaNo and write about it. Though granted, part of the plot and one of the characters were old ideas.

So don't worry if you don't have a plot yet! Lots of us are in the same boat.

Oooh, ooh! Me too. Except that this is my first year of NaNo, my first attempt at fiction, and my first attempt at anything longer than about 10,000 words (other than reports and business plans for grad school). I have no training in creative writing, no clue what I'm doing, and I don't care - I'm going to have fun! I don't even really know if there *is* a novel inside me. If there isn't, I'll become a NaNo Rebel and write something memoir-ish or even just musings on business and leadership (put my MBA to work!). But I've signed up because if I can push through all my barriers and excuses (I have ADHD and can't sit still, I'm too busy, I'm too tired, I'm not good enough, etc etc etc) to sit my butt down long enough to write an average of 1667 words per day, then I can do anything! So I'm off to the Writing 101 forum... :)

I have the little backdrop, hint of a plot. But seeing as it's already changed twice, by November it's really not going to be the same, aha.

No, that actually makes perfect sense, suprisingly. I have heaps of little plots for all my secondary characters, but no big PLOT. Its very annoying =(

This is my fourth year doing NaNo, and both the second and third year I had plot ideas in, like, August, developed them madly (think several chapters worth of character backstory, plot outlines, etc) and then sat down on November 1st and ran out of steam after 200 words. My best NaNo so far is the first one, where I started writing with absolutely no clue beyond my main character and just let her tell me the story.

So, in short, don't worry about not having a plot yet. Having one is no guarantee for winning, or even for just having a good story.

I hate when this happens to me. That's why I've grown accustomed to searching around for plots (whether online, real life experiences, crazy "what if" scenarios that pop up in conversations, dreams I have, etc.) when I don't necessarily need them, jot them down in a Word doc, and stick them in a folder somewhere so when I do need them I can just look one up.

So, I do have one ;) But with my first nano I didn't even know about it until a few days before November. Yet (with a hell of a lot of thinking) I was able to come up with a plot, character bios, and an outline. A rather crappy outline, and I failed with 18k :P But then I tried augno last year without even thinking about it until the first of August. I also failed with 18k (haha) but it was so much fun! The craziness is great excitement. So...plot or no plot, I wouldn't worry about it. It doesn't guarantee if you win or lose. Just enjoy the experience.

I have...absolutely no idea what I'm doing this year.

And I'm okay with that.

I actually have a few ideas to choose from, but they're all really vague (shapeshifters and the Bahamas + fire, shapeshifters + renegade shapeshifter + evil brother, and a teen fiction story where a goody two shoes girl becomes, well, an addict and stuff), but none of them have really caught me yet. v_v

Plot? Wuzzat? ...You mean we're supposed to have one of these... "plot" things you speak of? *quizzical stare*

(I have a beginning, but that's it. I have a really fuzzy sort of overall direction that I know I want the story to go in, but a plot? Not even. >>)

I don't! But I've got a reason for it. I write in the off-season, and I've been working on a series for the last few months. Up until a couple of days ago, I was going to do the third book in the series for NaNo. But then I realized that I would much prefer doing something new so that I could plan during October, so that leaves me without a plot. At the moment, I'm frantically trying to finish the second book in the series as soon as possible so that I can think up a plot. I'm worried that if I come up with a plot now, I'll loose enthusiasm for writing for writing that second book in the series - and that's a big no-no! So I can count on not having my plot until like mid-October. :{
