Hi! Does it count if the city I live in used to be part of Salt Lake? :P I live in Cottonwood Heights.

Hello all. I'm here again this year.

Rather than working on a mystery this year, decided to work on a romance. I hope this one goes even better then last year.
woo hoo.

You have to live in Salt Lake County to be in this region.

What? Just because it says "City" doesn't mean that it really means "City"...

No wait, you live in a city inside the county... hmm... I don't know. See, I live in the county and not in any city... We'll have to take a vote on that. 8-)

Hello! I'm back! Writing the sequel to last year's, so more choose-your-own-adventure-novel-with-chimpanzees goodness.

Hey, I'm not exactly from Salt Lake, or from Salt Lake County, but I'm closer to Salt Lake than Ogden. Is it a crime to be here?

Hi all!

I may or may not try this year. Last year I tried and didn't finish quite spectacularly, thanks to the man who is now my husband. So if I do try again this year it's going to be interesting. Also, we're going to be very busy in November. But regardless, I will be popping in to cheer everyone on.

Wait, I still get to be in Salt Lake right? And before you say no, remember I can bribe you with keroro stickers.

Kori, pls send all bribes to:

PO Box 58591
SLC UT 84158

of course I have no power right now. But still I should be bribed. Often and thoroughly. Thanks.

And, tarina got married? Wow, congrats!

Hey all. I'm still debating whether to attempt NaNo this year. Last year flopped for me. But we've had quite a few significant changes since then. Last year I was in the Omaha region. This year I live in Salt Lake and I'm big and pregnant, so who knows, maybe I won't have the energy to anything else but write? Whatever the case I shall be watching (and possibly participating) in the proceedings with keen interest. Go SLC!

Hey everyone! I'm going to *try* NaNo this year! I'm getting married the first week of December, and with the planning...well, you know how it goes. But I figure, even if I don't get much done, it's better than not writing at all! Glad to be in Salt Lake this year! :o)

I gladly accept bribes, favors, and payoffs. I haven't a single moral fiber in my body. I do however have a soul-sucking job and a three-month old. Ay chihuahua. Think I'll also be sequeling for this year's nano with more axe-wielding slasher goodness. Too bad I killed Beth, Kori, and Banai off in the first one....

Depends what you're writing about. Do you have a plan? If not, write about a wedding. Write about someone trying to plan a wedding. Just blow it out of proportion a little.... a schizophrenic bride trying to plan a wedding with 800 guests maybe?

Hey crew!
I never have an idea until a few days before. I'm the team mom for my 11-year-old son's football team so my brain is on overload (crazy parents, planning End-of-the-Year banquet, etc.) but I think some of this might be great inspiration.
I've never finished...this year I plan to get farther than ever before. I have a Blackberry this year so at least I can get stuff done when I'm away from my desktops.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

So cool to see some familiar faces, and some new ones! Howdy, y'all. I guess the MLs have abdicated for the www.utahwrimos.net forum but that doesn't seem to be getting much traction either....

Welcome aboard, everyone. The Utah crowd has typically been pretty inclusive--like the Republican Party, we're a big tent. So pull up a chair and tell us about your novel. Those of you who have done this before know what you're in for: a month of glorious procrastination interrupted by occasional bouts of productivity and competitiveness and SHEER WORDCOUNT GLORY.

If you're new, well, don't be scared off by the veterans. The thing about writing is: every project is different; and for every project you need to learn how to write all over again. You need to learn how to write *this* project. Maybe some of the veterans mastered writing from the POV of a private investigator transplanted into the body of a chimpanzee on Mars last year. Great! More power to me! Go me! (uh I mean us. GO UTAH!) But this year? A whole new set of challenges... and while a lot is transferrable, in a very real sense, every novel is written from scratch, from knowing absolutely nothing, with a glorious zen-like beginner mind. So if this is your first nano, or your first writing endeavor at all: fear not. Just jump in and figure it out as you go.

Go for it.

And for everyone? Allow me to point you to Cat Valente's post on Jeff Vandermeer's blog. Now, Cat's not necessarily a nano fan--but she's all about being ratshit crazy for a month, and to me, that's what Nano's all about. It's not about quoting song lyrics until you hit 50k--it's about finding a way to be crazy enough to write a whole damn novel without tripping on your own feet. So read Cat's post, read Kerouac's Rules, and get your brain ready for November.
http://www.jeffvandermeer.com/2008/07/

And remember:

--You are a Genius all the time
--Be crazy dumbsaint of the mind

Go for it, you geniuses.

Hey beth! Yup, I got married. I don't know if you were at the kick-off last year, but I actually dragged him to it with me. In all fairness, we were having dinner with his family later in the evening, and they live down in that area anyway, so it all worked out. Did I mention that dinner with his family was our second official date? Yup, it's true. And it was only a couple weeks after that that he asked me to marry him. And then just under two months before we got married. After that it was exactly 9 months to the day (almost exactly to the minute) that we had the family doctor confirm that I am pregnant. How's that for odd? :P

I can beat that. My son will be 3 1/2 WEEKS old when Nano starts. Yes, I'm flipping insane. But, then again, I'd have to be insane to do nano in the first place, right? Right!

*sound of someone gibbering in terror*

What? Oh, that wasn't me - that was my characters - they know what's coming. Mwahahahahahaha!

Both are nuts.....but hey, not person here is sane. We're all eager to tear up the page to get that 50k done by Nov. 30th when Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner. Who needs sanity when you can live like this?

I'm back folks without the dark half.....(if you don't know, I had a boil on the back of my head last year about the size of one fist and my family joked it was "Dark Half" the Stephen King story). I'm very anxious to write my 2nd novel for the Forgotten Mystic Chronicle series. I have a few fans that keeps bugging me for the next book, so I guess that's what I'll do.

I can't wait for the word war....SLC county is going to KICK some TUSH!!!!!

Oooh, some inspiring stuff! We can be GENIUS IN NOVEMBER!!! When else can we claim that distinction? The insanity part goes without saying, of course; the two go hand in hand. It's seriously great to see everyone here again.

Many congrats to Tarina (double congrats, actually :)), and to Testcase and Daggarfang on the new babes! I hope we get to meet the little ones at some point during the month and I get my baby-cuddling fix--it's been a while.

Test--Hmmm, I didn't get killed last year. I'm sure you'd have a slew of volunteer masochists if ye but asked. Pick me, pick me!

For my nanonovel this year I'll forgo the humor (maybe not ALL the humor) and write a steampunk frankenstein-ish story about love and other complicated junk.

And in conclusion, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
