What is your NaNoProject?
I'm debating between two- completely different- novels. One is heavily researched while the other just kind of decided to drop me a memorandum that maybe it should be pursued. Crazy how that happens.!

Also in SW Minn - right on the Iowa border.
It will be interesting to see which novel speaks to you the loudest this year, Lexicon, and gets written! I am going to sit and type until something happens. This is my first year.

From which part of the border country do you hail?

I haven't decided yet, either. Pretty sure it'll be categorized in science fiction either way. My first idea was a pretty typical save-the-universe space story, but I began to be drawn to a werewolf-type story recently. I have been a little consternated over the second one, though, since I feel as if I'm rewriting Harry Potter in some ways.

How close does Mankato area count to being SW?

Well, in our vast open spaces and third world countryishness that gets associated with SW MN, I would say that being a mere 2 hour drive (with only 3 turns from my little burg to the outskirts of your bigger burb) plants you firmly in our area...if you want to be! Just be careful when referring to yourself as a SWer. Many people are shocked to learn that we don't have to use outhouses anymore and that we actually have other forms of entertainment that do not include listening to Pa play on his fiddle.
; )
So welcome!

Hello from Faribault County, hugging the Iowa border. I agree, my Pa put away his fiddle a long time ago. But I still spend the fall canning pickles and putting up tomato sauce and jams. I'd give up DSL and cable before I'd give up the garden and the animals.

Hello! My second year---tried in 2006 and didn't finish--and I'm in Marshall. I teach high school English in Minneota. ::: waves :::
It's possible that this year I'll try a novel based on _Beowulf_; something modern, Minnesotan, and perhaps a bit humorous. It's something that's been stirring in my head a bit for a few years.
But, it's quite possible that I'll try something completely different before November shows up.
I'm also hoping to get students involved, especially my AP class...we'll see how that goes!

Hello from Marshall! (I'm not alone? Oh my gosh!) I'm a student and this will be my first year taking part. I don't really have an idea, I'm probably just going to sit in front of my computer between classes and type my heart out. I'll be able to dedicate at least 4 hours every Friday night (while I work, who knew?) to writing, so I have high hopes that I'll be able to meet the 50k mark.
Now to decide on what I want to write about!

Hey Marshallites- Pipestone here.
Would either (or more preferably both) of you be interested in meeting up some time over the month?
As well as anyone else in the area willing to drive?
Let me know...not that I'm needy...I'm friendly! : )

TwistedSoul and Withyith-
There's a group in SE SoDak that is talking about getting together- potentially in Brookings- would you be interested in joining us if we can get details pinned down?

Fairmont area resident here! ^_^ This is my sixth year of Nano, only won three times, though. My husband's going to try it this year as well. (Mwahahaha! A convert!) I have lots of ideas zipping through my head for this year, just a question of which ones to use!
Good luck, everyone!

Fairmont over here!
I'm pretty much undecided with everything, so I'm probably gonig to just wing it this year. This'll be fun! My first year failed, last year I never got past writing the prologue, and I'm hoping this year I'll have the time and motivation to write. Good luck everyone!

Hutchinson? I love that city for one reason. Back story is that I go to a horse camp up near Long Prairie every summer. Well, we pass through Hutchinson. And a couple years ago we went along through downtown and there was a thousand lawn chairs set up just like a parade was going through. But the entire city was dead. Only four people were sitting in chairs and we didn't see anyone else at all. It was so weird. But I waved to a little girl sitting in a chair like we were the parade and she was all excited and waved back. xD I've never spent more time in Hutchinson than the time it takes to go through it. But I always get excited when we drive through.

Just an FYI for those kinda close to the border.
SoDak is hosting a Kick off party on November 1st from 7:30-9:30 in Sioux Falls. I know it may be a bit of a drive for some, but I am going and can drive from Pipestone if you make it this far.
To get more info, hop on over to the SoDak region and check it out. If you would like to join me, send me a heads up.

Hallo, hallo -- another Marshall-dweller here. Withyith was actually my teacher in high school - I graduated in 2006. Anyhoo, I like horses (does that give you a hint, Ms. Withyith?), dogs, and taking naps. This'll be my second attempt at Nano. I have an idea I'd really like to get rolling as a novel but it was my 2005 project and I just kind of feel stumped, so I'm going to attempt to do something along the lines of "Marley and Me" .... writing about my dogs, though they aren't as naughty as Marley, I'll have plenty of material to go off of *laugh*.
Anyhoo, hi SW MNers!

Well, I am neither a teacher nor a student, but if my math is correct 3 Marshallites + 1 Pipestonian = 4 fairly close WriMoers. Would any of you be interested in a Marshall meet up?

Heya, Roany Pony! Yes, I know who you are, and I look forward to buying books written by you in the future!
As for meet-ups, I would love to when I have time. I'm also getting students of mine (high school) involved, so I'm setting up meetups for them, as well (with me as my teacher self and not just me as my own self). Right now, I have 13 students signed up in grades 8-12! Yay!
I'm going to plan a kickoff for them in a local establishment, so I'll miss others, but I will try to meet up later on!
And Roany---if you're going to be around, come join us! Write me at school and I'll give you details! :)

Bog, other writery types.
Marshall esque person, around that type of place. Your username seems like I know it, Withywith, but I figure you probably chatted me with on a post on a Nano far ago.
I might, but probably am not, joining the Nano. I've written about four books, though, so I know the insane emotions that the pursuit creates. Meeting other writery types might help me be more inclined. :)

SMSU here. Yay. That's Marshall for anybody who doesn't know. This will be my second year doing NaNo I won it last year and I shouldn't have a problem doing it again. I'm so ready for it to start. I have no idea what I'm going to write about but I have a character name to start with so I should be just fine. That's how I did it last year. I totally can't wait. Some of my friends even said they're going to try it. Just a few more days now.

Hey, SWers! How's it going with everyone?
I'm behind. Big time. But that's okay...it's been a crazy week and it'll be better this upcoming week, I think. And my students are going gangbusters! I'm so proud of them!
We met at CJ's in Minneota again today, and will likely do so next Saturday, as well, from 4-6. Please come join us!
Also, if anything's going on this week in Marshall, in the evenings, please post it here!
