Your location matters not. To the rest of the civilized US, we are virtually a third world country anyway! At this very moment, my stick tips are blackening over a buffalo chip campfire. By November 1, I should have enough stockpiled to burn my novel into my birch bark notebook.

You're welcome to join me if you like; I'll keep the fire burning and the corn meal mush boiling...

Third world country is exactly like it. I've had people ask me whether or not we have running water and indoor toilets yet. I'm still camped out in my sod house trying to figure out how to write my novel. Charcoal sticks sounds like a good idea!

I'll stay up here in the Black Hills and gnaw on my buffalo jerky and prairie grass for now, but the offer is appreciated. :3 Traveling across this flat state of ours might take too long and I couldn't make charcoal sticks while on horseback...

What is your NaNoProject?

I'm in a serious debate between two- completely different- stories. One is a potential chick lit while the other is a psychological thriller. Both are enticing, though Miss Sassafrass is much more demanding than ecentric and creepy Mr. Baker. I'm not sure which one will have more staying power or will be easier to write.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

*cough* Anyhow. I haven't decided if I'm going to go for broke or actually write something serious this time around.

Serious as in dramatic. Most of my approaches in previous NaNos have been of the comical variety, when not flat-out parodic. It's not worth mentioning what I've written in the past beyond saying I never got past a couple thousand words -- at least the last two times I can blame it on infant interference.

Of course, said infant is now a toddler. This may not be an improvement in circumstances.

Well, I'm from Eastern SD. This is my first NaNoWriMo and I hope to get through it without too much of a block. I've been suffering from writer's block for about six months now so I'm hoping it lets up if I force myself.

Hello! I'm a mom with a husband in law school (if that doesn't pin my location then you don't need to know) ;) I'm on my second year here in NaNo and am so excited I'm tempted to quit school. I'm trying something new this year, it's from a dream I had and it's going to be SciFi.

Last time I did a second story in a series I've been working on (fantasy). I love writing buddies so send me along a message!

Hey South Dakotans! (Or not, as the case may be.)

Mm... I'm from the city with 'the world's only Corn Palace' (a.k.a. Mitchell, SD). This is my first year participating in NaNo, so... wish me luck? And good luck to everyone else, too!

I'm going to give it a shot with a sort-of-ish comedy this year... (or would it be young adult? I'm not quite sure on the genre just yet...) Maybe.

Nice to meet you all. Would anyone be interested in a little get together somewhere along the way? Sometimes it can be frustrating to be the "only corn palace" in the area!

BTW, we midwesterners take such pride in our oddities, don't we? Like Darwin's twine ball or Virginia's enormous loon. We have a giant peace pipe gracing our beautiful town.

Does anyone else have an oddity to brag about (or sheepishly hide)?

I'm originally from out west (Idaho) and I'm having trouble with all this flatness. Is there a word for the opposite of claustrophobia? So I'd say that's the oddity I deal with, flatness.

If anyone wants to have a group meeting in Vermillion I'd be there... well depending on the day. They've got a hotel with a meeting room (Holiday Inn).

Lol, but whatever. I'm sure there's somewhere more central.

Hey everyone! I'm Eire, I'm in Sioux Falls, and this is my second year with NaNo.

I think we NEED a get-together this year, but planning one for our group always seems like a challenge. Since we're all so spread out, it's difficult to find ways to meet up, especially toward the end of the month when the weather turns nasty. I don't know about anyone else, but my car is about to give up the ghost this year anyway :)

As for quirks.... lol I'm a 25 year old housewife with an IQ of 136, ADD, and no kids... All I have is my quirks :D

Mitchell would be a nice meeting place. The Holiday Inn Express and Kelly Inn have conference rooms. Vermilion would be good, too. I think a group up would be cool.

Eire- I agree. We NEED to get together this year.

Since you are in the area, would you mind making plans? I'll be the good sheep and follow your lead- and help out with details if needed.

Let me know what I can do...Lex

I have no problem making plans for the get-together this year. Somewhere we can all get to with relative ease, if possible. Idee, what all is available in Mitchell that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg (renting a conference room at the hotels is KILLER!)? It isn't TOO far for me coming from Sioux Falls, but I don't know about anyone else...

Hello, fellow South Dakotans, (And the folks who have decided to fall in with the wayward, backwater cowboys of that region... In good way.)

I'm thrilled to be back in South Dakota, and in my hometown of Brookings, after six long year, as well as participating in NaNoWriMo for the second year.
Last year I wrote a comedy/drama/comedy of errors/morality tale entitled "Mr. Smith Isn't Afraid of the Dark". It was mostly about vampires and Nazi mad scientists and a talking duck and voodoo preistess . The usual stuff. This year I am seriously contemplating writing a sequel, with a neat title like "Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Ghost" just as an excuse to bring on of my "Mr. Smith" villains back from the dead... He was a right bastard, but he was fun to write. It will probably be humorous, and chock full of crazy drama, and ooze overtly Christian moral overtones, just like my last novel... but I have no idea how to categorize the genre for it...

If anyone lives in Brookings and wants to meet up for a some kind of writing party, message me! I'd say we raid the Starbucks, but it's at Hy-Vee and probably doesn't have Wi-Fi... I swear, Brookings and Watertown have the only two Starbucks without Wi-Fi in the world... I bet Starbucks in communist North Korea even has Wi-Fi... (Mutters in Korean).
On a side note, I spent 2 of my six years away form South Dakota living in South Korea, and another 18 months of that time in California learning Korean, so if anyone wants to hear some crazy stories about what it's like to be a big white dude in a land of little Asian people, I got you covered!

Hey everyone! I'm currenly going to school at USD and this is my second attempt at NaNo. I tried a few years ago when I was still in high school and that...didn't work out quite as well as I had planned. :) I'm hoping it goes better for me this year, but I think I'm a little crazy for trying to do this around midterms!

I have two ideas I've been kicking around since this summer; they're both young adult novels aimed for older teens with a science fiction lean to them. I'm hoping NaNo will give me the drive to actually get past the first couple thousand words for once!

A cozy warm welcome on this crisp fall morn. Twist some straw, stack up the cowpies and stoke the fire. At least its not windy here...yet!

It seems like we have a much more active bunch comeing out of the cornfields and prairie grass this NaNoSeason. Hopefully we can meet up and enjoy a little company!

Good luck on the dual story thing. That happened to me, too. It appears as if I am going with the one story line that is completely out of my reading and writing experience! A Chrisitain Chick Lit when I typically write humorous adventures for middle graders! Should be a wild ride.

Yo. I'm from the Redfield area and am a Senior at RHS. Hopefully I actually write the novel up, because I'm a little bit lazy. I don't know what I'm gonna write about, so I just plan on just writing and letting it take its own form.

Hello everyone!
I'm from Vermillion, and this is my... fourth? fifth?... year participating in WriMo. I have completely failed every year but the first, so I am attempting to win again this year. I am off to a much better start than I have been in past years :).
I'm excited to see how this month turns out... I know it's going to be crazy!
But fun. Definitely fun :D

Okay, so I hope this gets through because I tried to do this a few times before, lol.
My name is Elo, but I also go by Joss (story behind both of those.) I'm 14 years old, live in Rapid City, and am scared shifferless to be doing NaNoWriMo for the first time.
Sending everyone lots of luck! (and keeping some for myself...)

Living in Vermillion, here. This is my first time doing NaNo, and I'm fairly certain I won't get 50k on the word count. I have a full time job, and an infant and husband to take care of. Does that count as two kids? Hmmm... anyway. -.-; I'm excited to try to get there, tho, and I look forward to the challenge and enjoyment I plan on having doing this... and is that SNOW? Oh. No. Good. Just tiny tiny leaves. Whew! Sorry. I tend to ramble, even when writing. And what about maybe seeing about renting out (or borrowing) the armory and doing a buffet type get together? I'll be at the TGIO party in SooFoo, but I'd LOVE to do a write-in or just a take-a-break and DON'T THINK IN WORDS get together sometime before that if possible!

Military? DLI? Was Korea fun? Where in Korea? I know a new mum out there (from the What To Expect boards) with her husband, but I can't remember where they're stationed right now. And hey! At least you HAVE a Starbucks! We have a Coffee Shop Gallery and a Latte Da, but no Starbucks. >.< Good to have you back home! :D

The Starbucks in Watertown is pretty dinky, too. I think the cafe in the mall actually has Wi-Fi, as does Culvers, of all places.

I'm not sure I'll "win," either, as my sixteen month old son keeps me pretty busy, but if I get a good start on my next book, it'll be worth the effort.

Hiya!

Like many of you, this is my first nano- but I'm enthusiastic, because I've never actually finished a story I've begun... it's a bad habit of getting bored and starting a new one.

I'm doing about 3k words a day... so hopefully I finish!

I'm from Sioux Falls, went to LHS, and am currently at SDSU if anyone else shares similar geography- we should all get together (a few of my close friends are doing this too) and hang out! weeee!
