I suppose this region needs an introduction thread so...here we are~ Introduce yourself to fellow Connecticut members and whatnot. Anyhow, the name's Caitlin from Windam County, sixteen, and this is my second year with Nano. Aiming for gold this time after unforseen problems last year.

I'm Ally, and I'm twenty-two. I live in Colchester, and this will be my third NaNo. I'm hoping that this year will be my charm and will go smoothly.

I'm also hoping that I'll be able to go to more than one write in this year. x.x

I'm Karen, I'm 21, and I live in Storrs (at UConn). This is technically my first nanonovel, although I've written a novel in a month before. I'm really excited about November!!!

Hello! I'm Megan, I'm 18 and I live at UConn in Storrs...it's my first NaNo and I'm really excited, as anyone who's had to talk to me in the past few weeks would be able to tell you. Heh. I bet they can't wait until November just so I shut up about it already.

Yeah, and I'm definitely looking forward to a month of novel writing + classes and work + a few exams in there too...it should be interesting.

Hello everyone!-

I love your enthusiam!

I've done Nano for 4 years now, and the sparkle never stops. October is a great time to get ready. Stock the pantry with cool snacks and rewards, get some research done for your book and organize a bit.

Have a great Nano!

Hi I'm Marie! I used to be the ML for East CT, but I'm taking a break from MLing this year. I'd done it for 4 years. And it's either can set the sails of wind of writing for the year to come, or it can overwhelm and leave you breathless. I've found preparing in October really helps. But truly, writing throughout the year really helps. I get snacks, I've saved some money for rewards like a long walk on the beach in RI (now a days you have to save for the money for the gas!!) and a manicure or pedicure or massage, one of those feel good spa things.

As far as the intro part. I've been writing for years. I've had short stories and articles published, but no novels...yet.
I must admit, I'm psychotic about tallying how many words I must write per day. Doing odd bits of math, figuring out what I need to do. This year, I have 22 days to write. (anything written on a weekend or during Thanksgiving is a bonus). So I need to pound out 2273 words per day. Ahhhhhhhhhhh == running and screaming with scissors and jello=== OooO..

I hope some groups gather, but I know that can be tough to organize.

Good luck to all!

I wanted to attend some of the group meetings last year, but the distance proved to be a problem. I don't have my permit yet so I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere. I hope, this year, that I can attend some of the group meetings. They sound amazing and a lovely way to spread the word about Nano. (:

Even though you're not MLing this year, if you happen to set up a group meeting, I'd love to possibly attend.

Hmm. I can't really ML (and it's probably getting too late to sign up anyway), but I would love to get some meet ups that are at least close to, if not in, my town, which is Colchester. We did one last year, which was fun, but I wish we had gotten to do more. That one was last minute, though. :|

It'd be nice if we could get some meet ups done in/near Colchester, Norwich, Hebron, Salem...even Manchester or Waterford would work, because I at least have a general idea of how to get to those places.

If we could find someone to sort of unofficially ML for those areas/anyone living near those areas, that would be a start, and then maybe we could work on having a meet up for the first day or something. We just have to find someone to volunteer first.

Do you know how close Windham is to Colchester/any of the towns I mentioned?

I would say Colchester is about thirty minutes from Windham county / plainfield. I know that Norwich is about twenty minutes from where I live, and Waterford roughly forty.

I would love to volunteer, but I'm not eighteen yet so...that's rather impossible =/
I'd love to help whoever steps up to the plate, though.

I don't really belong here, but I thought I'd stop in to say hi. I'm from CT originally, and my dad still lives in Willimantic. I miss it out there. I also know someone at UCONN who should do Nano, but she'd get mad at me if I told you her name and got y'all to recruit her. :D

Wishing you all happy Nano and many words!

Hey all. (: I'm Cindy, 20, from Willimantic. This is my first year doing NaNo and I'm woah!excited about my plot. This is the most I've ever planned for anything I've written and my 4500 word outline and me are getting along rather well so far. It's not even November and pretty much all I'm talking about is the characters in my novel. I don't even want to know how I'm going to be in November, lmao, my poor friends. :D

I am Larisa, a 19 year old resident of Norwich. I work part time in the Children's Department of Otis Library, and attend Three Rivers Community College, which is actually a really great college to start out at. I've loved to write all my life, even before I knew how to write actual words. I won last year by a thread, despite having much stress in my life at the time, so I'm hoping to do even better this year! I wish everyone else the best of luck! Happy writing. :)

Hey, my name's Mina...I'm seventeen, this is my second time participating. Prolly also my second time failing to get anywhere near goal, but I like to do crazy fun things that I have no hope of finishing...or rationalizing to the public in general. So that's why I'm here.

I also don't have my license yet. :[ I'm also a sophomore still, which I'm sure is amusing to others but isn't terribly funny to me, so don't crack any jokes about it, k?

I live in Ledyard, so I never got to go to any of the fun stuff last year (that's partly thanks to my mother being a lazy bum, and the fact that I have a four-year-old brother and ten-month-old sister. Although she might be eleven months now, I dunno) and I really want to go this year.

Greetings. My name is Alan. I am 18 years old.

I live in Groton, Connecticut.

I am currently enrolled at Three Rivers. This is my second year there.

I work as a Lead Game Adviser at GameStop in the Cross Roads Shopping Plaza in Waterford.

I am really looking forward to this Nanowrimo. I used to always want to do it, but never managed to motivate myself enough. I believe I am prepared this year, which is why I decided to sign up for the website.

I am open for meeting up and having outings.

Nice to meet everyone.

If you wish to contact me, I am Eingzheider on Yahoo! and AIM, and I am Eingzheider@hotmail.com on Live Messenger.

-Gasp- SOMEONE ELSE ACTUALLY FROM AND LIVING IN COLCHESTER! -Clings to-

Sorry. >.>

The fact that there are other writers/NaNoers in Colchester is awesome, because it means that I am not the only one.

Hmmmm...that means you graduated after me probably, yeah? I graduated in 2004.

Maybe that means there'll be more of a chance of doing some Colchester meet ups. :D

lol...Yeah, that'd be cool if we could do sum Colchester meet ups...And yeah, I graduated in 2006. ^__^ I know one other person who lives in C-town and does NaNo...And one of my old High School teachers does it too..Which is pretty cool. : )

I hope I'll be able to win this year! I'm way excited!

Yeah, I only know one other person who does NaNo, too and lives in Colchester....although now she's up at school in MA.

I think I know which teacher you're talking about- Mr. A? I had him for journalism my senior year.

Me too. >.> I just need to actually start planning stuff for it and get myself ready. Two weeks from tomorrow! :D

You're talking about Siobahn right? lol. She's the one who got me into NaNo in the first place...So, yeah I no one other person in addition to her...lol...and Yup, I am talking about Mr. A... ^__^ he was my senior english teacher.

I gotta get myself ready too. I might end up winging it at the rate I'm going. But I did that back in 2006 and that was the only time I actually won NaNo...so that might be the way to go for me. haha! : )

Haha, yes, that is who I'm talking about. Small world. ^_^ I feel a little better knowing that there's someone else other than Siobahn and I from Colchester doing NaNo. Colchester doesn't seem to do very well in the area of writing (as far as writer's groups and such go), so it's good to know that there are others participating in it. XD I don't have any friends to try and convince into doing it. None of them really write, and even if they did they're too busy with school and work and weddings and such. One of my friends used to write but now her big thing is cooking, so she doesn't write anymore.

This is my third year and I haven't won yet. The first time, I tried basing it on a role play I was running at the time and ended up just trying to use the posts in it, which just threw me off. Plus, I had work and school to deal with. The second time I had one class and work to deal with and I'd come home and not feel like writing. During the very last week, I didn't write, and then I had the very last day off, and didn't really use it to try and write. I think I had something like 11k by the time the day was over. That's actually what I pretty much ended up with for a word count both times. But this time I have a different method of outlining that I'm hoping will work, so we'll see what happens. Hopefully I'll actually come close to winning or just actually win this time.

Hello - my name's Cheney, a 26 year old single momma, and this is my fourth year trying Nano - I have never won, but came closest two years ago. This year, I am going to take the ideas of the story from two years ago and write a new story, which hopefully will work out better and keep me motivated.

I am currently living in New London, but I grew up in Salem, right next to Colchester where all you buddies are from. I would love to do a meet-up with some of you, and maybe in the next couple of days I can check out where we can do that and when. My days are short on free time, and I know that the only times I would be able to go to a meet up would be etiher a Tuesday or Wednesday night sometime after five pm. There are a lot of places in New London we could do meet ups - and it's not terribly far from Colchester.

Let me think about all this and see if I can get something organized!

That would be cool if we could set up some meet ups. My work schedule changes each week so I honestly can't say what days are really good for me to do meet ups. Preferably, I would need to put in for the day(s) off two weeks ahead of time in order to make sure I can hopefully get the day off to go. I find out each Friday what the schedule is for the following week.

haha, yeah! And, I agree. Most ppl who I would tell Nano about would look at like I'm crazy. lol. But I have a good feeling about this year so hopefully, we'll both finish strong. ^__^

That'd be really awesome if we really could get a meet-up going. I get out of school fairly early everyday and only work on weekends so most weekdays after 3pm is all good for me. I really don't have too much going on otherwise. So, I'm sure if we actually do get sum meet-ups going it'd be all good with me. lol. : )

Exactly. My parents don't really get or like...understand what it is entirely. Although I do have to say that my mom has kind of taken a better interest in my writing over the last few years. She wants me to actually finish a story and try to publish it.

But with my dad...the thing that's going to be frustrating in November is when I have a day off and I'll want to stay up all night to write the night before, and he'll be all "RAWR GO TO BED" if he catches me up at, say, 4:00 AM. Although honestly, I have no clue how I would stay up that late. It's been a long time since I've done so, but the last time I did it wasn't to write and it was when a friend was sleeping over.

See, I almost think weekends would be better for me. >.> Meh. It really depends on the schedule for whatever weeks we have the meet ups. I basically need to put in for like...the first two meet ups off, so I would need the dates of them now/two weeks in advance to make sure I can get them off. My schedule changes each week, so it's hard for me to say what days would be better. -Maybe- Thursdays, because I didn't change my availability from when I took the writing class through Colchester's adult education thing (it was from 6-7:30 on Thursdays every week), so they've been fairly good about not scheduling me past 5 or 6:00...although they did schedule me until 6:30 this coming Thursday.

Hi! My name's Amy... I'm 24 and living in Norwich. I moved up here from Florida and this is my 3rd year living up here. Still not used to it. This is my 2nd NaNoWriMo, but the first one was... gosh, something like 5 years ago. It'll be interesting to see how this goes; I haven't taken a shot at writing anything more than blog entries in a long, long time.
