The UNT libraries will once again be supporting National Novel Writing Month by having a Kick-off Party, daily and weekly write-ins and a TGIO party.
The Kick-off is currently scheduled for Thursday, October 30th at 5:30pm in the Cyber Cafe in Willis Library on the UNT campus.
We are looking into daily lunchtime write-ins in the cafe, as well as evening weekly write-ins around Denton.
I'll try to post new events as they are decided here, or you can check out http://nanomonthly.meetup.com/81/ for all the dates and places.

Well if you can't make it, definitely hunt me down at some point to get your goodie bag if nothing else!
We're going to be doing weekday lunch write-ins starting on the 5th and going every day (save Thanksgiving Thursday and Friday) until the end. Plus evening write-ins on Wednesdays starting at 5pm (but again, not the one before Thanksgiving)
Everything's going to be held in the CyberCafe in Willis
Hope you can come out to some of the events!

Man, I so wish I could attend the kick-off, but odds are that I'll be working. That and I've got a six year old that's being homeschooled, so I can't get out much. Oh well. I hope everyone has fun.

Greetings everyone!! I am going to do my best to make it out for the kick off. This time last year I had a pretty good idea of what I would write about. This year I'm doing it cold turkey. Yikes!
For those of you who have done this before, what happened with your novel? Are you seeking publication? I'm looking for an agent for the book I wrote last year, haven't had any bites yet.

I think I can make the kick-off party, but this is my first semester at UNT, and I've never actually been past the reference desk in Willis. Where is the cyber cafe located?

The CyberCafe is on the first floor in the back - you can just come back past the reference desk and it's just to the right. There's the coffee bar and then a bunch of computer tables for us to use.
Looking forward to it!

YAY!!!! I was so worried there wouldn't be anyone in Denton doing this. (Niave of me I know). I just move dhere this year from Houston. I will definatly be at the kick-off... Of course, Halloween is that night so I might be a little late, or early, or any number of other things. <.< ^.^
Willis library is a perfect spot cuz I work in the building right next to it. Hooray! Can't wait to meet peoples.

I'll do the best I can to show up. Amazingly, I've still got the same work schedule as last year, so Thursdays are good although weekends aren't.

Just to clarify, the Kick-Off at UNT is the 30th, not the 31st - didn't want to try and compete with Halloween...

Hello everyone! I'm a freshman at UNT and really looking forward to this event and NanoWrimo. I skipped Nano last year but since I've fallen behind on my writing I'm looking to complete 100,000 words this November. Crazy yes, but we'll see. I'll be the 5'1 girl, probably wearing black, and goes by the name of Autumn :p

Greetings. I've just joined and you are the closest to where I live. I'm still trying to figure this all out though and I'm trying to learn if I can use a novel I've already started on but have a long way to go, or if it has to be completely brand new?

"The Rules" say you have to start a new project, but rogues have been known to break the rules. Now, the reasoning behind NaNo being a new project is that if you work on something you've already started, you are too committed to those characters and therefore will not allow yourself to write badly (which sometimes you have to do! But we don't worry about that now, we worry about that in December!)
So... it's really up to you. If you have an idea for a new novel, go with that. If not... you can try finishing your other novel (only count word written in November, though!) but beware of your Inner Editor, who will probably be yelling at you louder and more passionately than if you were working on a project into which you have not already poured so much love and devotion.
Welcome to NaNo!!!
:) Criss.

First, I want to thank everyone who participated in National Novel Writing Month and the activities held at UNT this year. We had fabulous turnouts for all the events and it's inspired us to bigger and better things next year.
For those of you who weren't able to make it to the Thank God It's Over Party, we passed out a quick survey just to get your input on what we did right and what we can do better next year. If you want a copy, drop me a line at denton DOT nano AT yahoo DOT com
That brings me to the next point. We were talking about possibly doing a NaNoEdMo (National Novel EDITING Month) event or even ScriptFrenzy (write a script in 30 days) so if you are interested, be sure to send me an email to get on the mailing list.
It really has been wonderful meeting all of you over the craziness of November this year and I hope to see all of you back again!
Thanks!
Kristin
