There's a thread in "NaNoWriMo Ate My Soul" where authors can leave angry letters to their characters, plot, novel, etc. But sometimes we need to remind our characters that they are indeed loved and cherished. Is there anything you wish to say to those special someones with whom you will be intimately involved for a whole thirty days? Let them know that you care by writing them a little love letter.
I'll start...
Dear MCs (Jaden, Luke, Raine, Taregan, Sophie, and Casey *yay you all have names yay*):
I'm glad you're all getting excited about the little adventure we got coming up in a month. I don't even mind that you kept me up last night with your babbling. Just to hear you speak, either to me or to each other, was totally worth it. Thank you for sharing your personal stories, hopes, dreams, all of that. In the end, you are what makes this story real. I'm just your humble servant, recording what you say and do for future generations.
Now we just need to hold out for another month or so. I couldn't ask for a better cast of characters, and I know that in the end, you will come through for me. I just hope I can do the same for you.
Much love,
Lycoris

Great idea - they need encouragement!
Dear Holt Brothers (Atticus & Dru) -
Thank you thank you for following the plan so far and being a) siblings and b) hunky-licious! Now just you wait, we'll be having lots of fun come November. Oh, and don't mind Granny, she's crazy but she won't shoot you,really. Probably, anyway.

Dear Tiny -
Gee, for a 3 foot high alien you are turning out to be really cool! I love the idea of your competing in an intergalactically-televised reality show in which the winning contestent gets the really BIG prize - he becomes President of the Galaxy!
I would so totally vote for you but unfortunately, you aren't a US citizen. sigh.

Dear SungMin and Jonas,
I know I just wrote an angry letter to both of you but I am genuinely excited to write about you both. SungMin you are adorable and Jonas you remind me of Suikoden and that makes me happy. Here's hoping that you guys aren't monumental assholes to me come November,
yours with the utmost confidence,
your authour.
P.S I also hope to keep you both alive at the end of the novel which is a feat I've not accomplished for awhile. Let us strive towards that goal, shall we?

Dear Merissa:
I know I put you through a lot last year, and I'll put you through even more this year. I made you hurt, cry, get ripped to shreads, become insanely jealous of your best friend, and nearly killed you at your brother's hand...wait, don't go! I do really love you, and you'll see it's all worth it at the end of the trilogy! Only 2 books to go...think you can hang in there for that? Really, you've been one of my best characters, sticking in my head for almost 8 years before I got around to writing about you. I owe you a lot. Thank you.
~~~~~
Dear Alerix, Alsea, Dylaix, Serena, Talis, & Lyran
You guys may mainly be sub-characters as her family, but you are just as important to me as anyone else in the novel. I love you guys to death! Oh, and Lyran...sorry about what'll happen in Book 2 this year.
~~~~~
Dear Meri & Ramir:
I know you guys only popped up in memories in Book 1, and I scared you to death when I almost killed Merissa, but we'll be spending plenty of time together in Book 2. I just hope I can do the two of you justice. Promise you'll be patient with me?
~~~~~
Dear Merix:
It's not that I hate you, making you the bad guy...I love you, really I do! Just like Merissa, I torture you now with the knowledge it'll all be worth it in the end. For what it's worth, you make a great external, if unwilling, villian. Keep it up!
~~~~~
Dear Kir and Tyr'en:
I love the two of you, the perfect foils to Merissa and Alysania. Just keep doing what you're doing.
~~~~~
Dear Alysania and Byren:
The hardest part is over for you two! You survived Book 1! Thanks for being there at the perfect moments and keeping an eye on Merissa and Kir for me. I'll catch you two in Books 2 & 3 a little bit, but I'll give the two of you plenty of time alone. :D
~~~~~
Dear Ai'leai and Pyr'ya:
You two were the best surprise characters to ever work themselves into my plot. I lose nothing by keeping the two of you around in the main cast...whether you want to be or not (sorry, Pyr'ra!).

Dear Abraham,
Thank you so, so much for pointing out to me that you're an author, not a school teacher. Of course I should have known you don't have the kind of assertiveness needed to be a good teacher, and of course you're good at what you do. Why wouldn't you be? You love your career. And I bet you love it much more now that your name has appeared in many reputable (albeit fictional) magazines and you've got some bestsellers under your belt.
Keep surprising me! I love you and your beard and your obsessive ways.

Dear Angelina, Antonio, And you two that I haven't named . . . Aw, crap, I better do that,
Angelina, Antonio, I am sorry that you are going to fall in love with each other. You're in a Prequel, so your fate is set. How you fall in love, well, that's up to you. But, You're going to have the next book's protagonists. =) I'm sorry your in that "Mauraders" situation.
Dear Couple I haven't named . . . Aw, gawsh. I should do that, shouldn't I? But, you already have pretty much a name, I just haven't found it yet. But, Like Antonio, Angelia, (and even Tony jr.), you are set. You have life, and you just need to walk your path in 50,000 words. But, remember, you have to share with Angelina and Antonio, so be nice.
Well, You are going to be great friends, to me, and to eachother. And Even though you're "Only in a prequel" You're going to decide the rest of the billion books I'm going to write.
So, have fun,
be nice, be safe.I love you guys.

I hope that through your story my writing can improve; you more than any of my other creations deserve something really spectacular this November. But I know that no matter what happens, we will share something really special. We will drink coffee together, stay up late together, and be touched with insanity and genius together. And because of you guys I will win this thing.

Dear Dahlia,
Thanks for letting me keep your story going. I gave you a suckishly ambiguous ending in the last book and I am freakishly glad you complied in giving me your consent. I know I put ou through a bunch last year (falling off cliffs, kidnapping, etc) but I know you love me and I love you. You were the inspiration for the entire series and I made every character more or less for you (sorry about chloe though) keep on going because I can say for near certain that there is a happy ending waiting for you.
Cale,
so I made you for dahlia and while that sounds mean, would you have it any other way? Thanks for not hating me as much as you should for seperating you too and all. Just keep all the sexy saved for novemeber.

My charries could probably use a letter...
My dearest main characters (that would be Tial, Gioa, Bawb and Karu as of this moment),
November is fast approaching, and I just recently got the plot semi-fleshed out. Sorry about that. But I'm excited about getting to write you all out when the month is finally upon us.
Karu, I know you have a smaller part than the rest of them, but I still say you're a major character. After all, you're the one abridging all of their journals to make this thing. In a way you get to be me, since you play author a little bit.
Tial, you get to leave your comfortable merchant ship and go play spy in a strange world. I know it's not exactly what you want, but it'll be an adventure, and although I don't think you'll actually enjoy it as it goes on, I think you'll look back and still want to throttle me. Try to have a little fun.
Gioa, you're definitely going to want to kill me in some way. You always did want to teach though, and I'm giving you a similar position. I think I'll be sure to throw in something like that. You'll probably come out of this liking me more than Tial will. But you Earths are so much more patient than Airs sometimes.
Bawb....I'm not sure what your reaction will be. I'm going to be stretching your calm though, what with dealing with your brother and best friend. Just enjoy the fireworks, all right? That's all I think I can say.
As for you minor characters, I think most of you come out with the more fun roles of this. Copin and Jowe, you two at least get to make the fireworks, even though you're going to fight all the time. But then again, Fires love to fight. What am I thinking? As for the rest of you who might not have names yet...good luck dealing with Tial, Gioa or Bawb, whoever you might get. You're going to need it.
Eagerly awaiting the moment I get to start,
Fabi

Drynsl: Thank you for giving me your theme song. Even better, it's a song that I can't get sick of. I mean, who can get sick of the team of Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, and last but not least, Johnny Cash? Also known together as the Highwaymen. Dear Elizebeth,
I'm sorry I'm putting you through so much pain. But you know, it's just so you'll get a new friend! Really. Truely, I'm exited about all the adventures you're bound to have that I have no idea about right now. I'm even exited about you being a pirate. That's a new one.
I want you to know that despite all this trauma (and blood), I really do like you... and you too, Haley, Zach. You're such good sports. Especially you, Zach, because you have to put up with girlhate. <3 Much love, much epic win in store for all of you.
I am so exited to work with you guys to make this--you're my stars. Amaze me. Right now you get to play this out to the bitter end, so I can make a story out of you. And yes. That means more pain. But it's all for the love, dears. It's all for the love.
Oh. And Reina? Try not to get too vengeful. But that doesn't mean I won't let you be bitter and angstridden, don't worry.
Love you guys! See you in a month. Maybe you'll have more buddies by then, too. =)

Dear Raindariel --
Thank you for finally revealing your true relationship with Lucifer. I understand that loving him was both your biggest strength, and your biggest folly, but you don't have to be ashamed of it. Thank you for trying to pull Ami and Guy out of their shells and helping me blend together the present as well as your past in nearly seamless ideas. Please help me figure out what I'm goin to have you do, and how I'm going to have you meet up with the Ghost hunting idiots in the cemetery, I really want to see you fight some serious demon butt.
Forever yours (as you are mine),
Chris
P.S. Don't worry, I know that Lucifer's nowhere near as bad as a guy as the bible portrays him to be, and I understand that love kept you from your duty to God.

Dear Rufus,
thank you for taking such a distinct shape in my head so early on. (I know it might have helped to see a picture that made me think 'it's him, it's him - squeeeeee!!!', but anyway...) I am sorry about your name, it isn't the most beautiful I could have come up with, but it is after all just an alias and you do have red hair. I'll give you a really cool last-name later on to compensate, promise!
I am also sorry that you have to work with someone like Sachie. You will eventually warm up to her, but I know that you at least initially will find her deeply annoying. But she is just out of high school, you can't expect too much of her. And she will admire you heaps, I'm sure you will like that at least - even though you might have to take a bullet or two for her. Real bullets.
But you are SO cool, and I'm really proud to be your creator. We will have a fun month in November!

Dear Deren,
I'm excited to be embarking on this month-long journey with you by my side and at my fingertips. I'm grateful you've given me this chance to see you grow and change. I hope I don't have to delete your little brother out of existence because, let's face it, he's really cute. And I apologize in advance if I take the story the direction it currently seems to be headed and have to use your girlfriend as a tool of pain and angst for you in the later chapters. I'm also sorry I'm going to throw you into the moral and emotinal dilemma of having to choose between your brother's happiness and the ethics of sacrificing a 16-year-old girl to a gang of predatory rapist monsters with ulterior political motives.
I hope I can do you justice by allowing you room to breathe, space to grow, and the flexibility and grace to change as we both come to understand you better in the coming days and weeks. Best of luck to us both!

I'm sorry that I let you get raped and nearly killed, but I promise it'll get better if you just calm down a bit and realise that the world isn't out to get you any more. It may seem scary, I know, but Lukas really is a nice person. Trust him.
Love,

Dear Lukas,
So much has happened since you first came into my life, hasn't it? You've undergone a personality change, a history change, and even a species change yet you still haven't run away yet. I think without you holding it all together my plot would've fallen apart and I'd have ended up writing some generic vampire story, so thank you.
And I'm sorry I made Belle such a nympho, but you were the one who picked her AFTER I warned you, okay? So if you die of sexual exhaustion it's your own fault...
Thank you,
Bloomers.
Finch:
I know we're not the best of friends right now 'cause of the whole name thing, but I've apologised, okay? AND I gave in too, so just forgive me already. Please?
Fly.
Toki,
Where do I start? I just wanna hug you - you're probably the most adorable character who's ever popped up in my squiggly mess of a brain - but you'd just wriggle away from me and tell me I was squishing you. You're so naive that I'm finding it really difficult to protect you from all the bad stuff out there, but you're so cute I don't want you to grow up. I wish you were real sometimes so I could tackleglomp you and then adopt you as my little brother, but until then I'll have to settle for making you happy by letting you dress as a girl every second Thursday.
Love and huggles,
Flybii
PS: You might wanna put down some slug repellent in your garden. Your "babies" might not take too kindly to the onslaught I'm planning.

Dear Tobyn and Addie -
I know you'll laugh at this, but I'm glad we were able to gather 'round on the ridge last night. The view was exceptional, and though I was complaining, and freezing and complaining about freezing, I really was happy just to dance with the two of you. I just wish I could've played some guitar to accompany your harmonizing, but actually, you know what? "Knife" was too beautiful to touch - David Colin ruma-tum-tumming behind, his grumbling bass, star shine, and thou, Tobyn, blithely cooing to the breeze, holding lead, as Addie, lying beside, effortlessly blended the tones. Killer, epic echoes.
I know you two have been having some difficulty finding a house in Maine, but I'm trying. I just don't know the area too well, just the Hundred Mile Wilderness Bryson wrote about. How would you feel about Nor Cal? If you go far enough north, I bet it's pretty similar. Oh, and jobs...Tobyn, I thought you wanted graduate school, 'cause there wasn't much else or something, but you didn't seem too interested in it last night. Addie's good at the newspaper - what do you want? No rush - just figure something out before Halloween, maybe?
I have faith. I have faith we'll have more fun than strife later this year. As long as no one crashes the Nova, that is. Or strays too far on the mountain quarry, you know, same old admonitions. You're bright girls. Don't forget that. You're just conflicted - and who isn't? Addie - take care, we're definitely going up to the Manchester House for Spring gathering. I have money now. Keep carving.
Till later. You know me - don't want to adumbrate too much - we'll get some gas and figure it out again, like up in Tahoe right? Well, good. Talk to you soon.
