SO what genre is your novel going to be?

Chick-Lit for me.

Chick Lit again? I'm totally the opposite of you--I'm constantly jumping around genres, trying to find somewhere to belong. This year, my novel is definitely action. But as there's no action genre here on the website, it's being reclassified as Mystery/Suspense.

ETA: Oops. Just read your post on the other thread. I suppose you'd have to be Chick Lit again... *facepalm*

I'm thinking sci-fi with maybe a bit of noir-ish or faux-biographical stuff mixed in.

Hmm, a little bit of scifi, a little bit of suspense. I'll decide later.

Fantasy setting with a mystery/adventure type plot. Then if I finish early I'll probably do a regency romance.

After a pitiful sub-3000-word year last year (Real Life got in the way) I'm back with a passion this year.

I'm doing a science-fiction murder mystery that's been in my head for nearly 20 years. I'm snowflaking it now which is a big difference for me. I used to decide on my novel on November 1st at 12:01am. This time, I've been planning it for months and will spend October getting ready.

We'll see how it goes.

Hmm. What should I do?

I know! I'll try Sci-Fi this year; something different, you know.

In actuality, I have no idea what I'm going to write yet. Here's hoping something comes to me during October. It'll be adventure of some sort, probably with Sci-Fi elements if not full-blown Sci-Fi. Because I want to write books like the ones I like to read. Is that so wrong?

My last two Nano's have been pretty straight Sci-Fi but this year I'm going with more of a Fantasy/Adventure story.

This year, I'm doing a memoir-esque fiction. Basically, it's about a young woman with cancer who takes a job as a counselor at a therapeutic boarding school (all of that part is basically true). It talks about her experiences, etc. Just making it fiction to protect the identities of my clients and my former workplace. :D

I actually have three plots in mind, but the one I think will actually go the distance is supernatural in nature. So I guess that'd be fantasy? Angels, demons, mental hospital, prophetic dream type scenes, big fun. Now if I can just come up with a better title than the one I've got....

Fantasy.

Again.

And yet again it will have a big splash of adventure, and a dash of romance (nothing too hot and saucey, thank you!). I don't feel like giving up my fantasy any time soon. I'll stick with what I know~

What is your title, sarielpg? Perhaps we could help. =3

I've actually decided to go with a nonfiction slice o' life story concerning my descent into madness during one screwed up weekend at Nelsons Ledges with a lot of drugs and alchocol involved. I'll talk about the good, the bad (i'm surprised I remember anything at all) and the ugly (99% maybe?) It might not sound like much, but ever since that weekend I've been dying to put my experience down on paper and now that nanowrimo is back I figured that now is the best time to do it? I'm sure once I get started I can turn my weekend into a 100,000 + word story. Yes, THAT much went down.

I guess mine is urban fantasy. Suburban, maybe? Even slightly rural? Can you have a "cozy" urban fantasy? LOL Well, it's probably not as bad as that.

Well, it seems the music/art/ideas that have sounded most inspiring to me lately are the same stuff that inspired last year's NaNo, so it might end up being something along the same lines genre-wise - that is, a surrealistic, mythic-realism fantasy type thing with spiritual themes. I'm thinking of having something to do with people who shapeshift into animals; that's a tried-and-true device (or else a cliche, but it's all in how you handle it). Well, it all comes down to what I feel most compelled to write on Halloween night.

Mystery/Humor. I could have put one or the other, but I'm kind of trying to avoid the classic murder situations (no serial killers, and really hard-core realism with the forensic science) and there's no suspense. Humor fits, but it's not parody or satire really. Hence that lovely "other."
