Hello all, new and old!
Welcome to the Dayton area Nanowrimo forums. I'm Walker, you're friendly, helpful, and sometimes funny, ML for the area. Joining me this year as a co-ML is Addie, who many may know from the last few years.
We are currently working on locations for parties and write-ins. We've got the basic places covered (Panera, Books n Co', and a few others), but if you know of a great hidden away spot that is friendly towards folks confiscating tables and power outlets for a few hours, please let us know!
Look for the calendar to be coming up in the next week, and please give us your feedback!
I'll leave this short for now and will update yall as the month progresses. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to private message me through the site or post here. I will be checking in daily at the very least.
Again, welcome back, and start stretching those typing fingers!
-Walker

And I'm Addie...and am putting together a comprehensive calendar of all the events we're setting up for November. Our goal is to have them up on the website and have a hard copy for you to take with you from the kick-off party we're planning.
We've covered a lot of the past popular places...and a few we discovered last year, but we're trying to have events across the city to make sure that they are convenient to everyone...let us know if you've got any ideas!

I DO work at the downtown library & all of our branches should be both WiFi domathingers AND allow you to have snacks in the meeting rooms. If one of em tells you no food, give me their name :-) <--evil grin
NEXT year I was planning on hosting events in our as-yet-un-opened classroom in the audiovisual area downtown.

Hi guys! I'm living half-way between Dayton and Cincinnati this year, but I'd love to make at least one of the write ins up there and catch up with old friends. Anybody doing any writing in October to clear current projects out of the way of the coming madness? I've got a WIP that needs some October lovin'.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm Lisa, a NICU nurse at Cincinnati Children's during the wee hours and a writer of fantasy, poetry, and medical realism for writing articles during the day. I've been a big contributor to the medical plot realism threads here at NaNo in the last few years. Right now, I'm trying to keep on top of medical-for-fiction questions and plot stimulators at my blog, Medical Muse (http://nursewriter.com/muse.html). Feel free to stop by for plot ideas or help!
Not sure what I'm writing this year, yet, so it should be a grand adventure come Nov 1.

I'm back for another year, even though Nano always falls during the end of the quarter and I always end up failing...
This year I have to write a play for my senior honor's thesis, so I figured what better way to get it started than to Nano it? ^_^ if it's for school I might actually WIN!
Disturbingfurniture, I also work at the downtown library ^_^ What dept do you work in?

I'm back as well, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make any meetings this year. I can't seem to find the novel I was working on last year. :-( This year I'll be working in my comfort zone - a Star Wars fan fiction.

Hey all! I'm back... And, with novel outline in hand, determined to actually complete my novel this year! (Uh, we'll see how enthusiastic I am come November 20th...)
I'd love to come to some of the "in person" events... But I can't promise (although the price of gas is going in the right direction...)
I'd love to "chat" with any fellow Xenia/Greene County novel-writing crazies!

Hey all, I am back, and back to WIN this year! Lisa, I am trying to finish my manuscript from Nano three years ago during October, so if you're in the Dayton area and want to do a weekend write-in, just let me know! Not sure what I will be writing this year yet, but I will know by the time it's time to start writing, at least I hope!

Hey, Tim. I'm on vacation for the next two weeks (after tonight), so I'd love to get together for a write-in with you. You'll be working on Talking Heads? Is that the right year I'm thinking?
Are you still in the southern part of the region? I'm pretty far south of Dayton these days, so if we could meet in Centerville that would be great. Any suggestions as to where?

The Muddles here.
After a year of epic fail last year, I'm ready to try another year of juggling NaNo with school, job and the end of marching band season.
Should be fun though.
I probably can't make it out to any of the earlier meet-ups in the year due to marching band sucking most of the freetime out of my life, but once that's done I'll see what I can do.
Also, if any novelists that go to CHS decide to show their heads here, please drop me a NaNoMail. I'm trying to organise some CHS-before-school-write-ins or something like that.

Hello! I may have moved all the way up to St. Marys, but I can't imagine not being part of the Dayton group for Nanowrimo. I hate not being closer this year, but hopefully I'll be able to come visit on the weekends and Party Times.

Hello all!
I'm finally back in the Dayton area after five years of living in Toledo. It's great to be home! I didn't participate last year, and failed the year before that. I'm hoping this year will be better!
I've already got a good handle on what I'm writing and hopefully a fantasy novel won't be too far out of my norm to cause much damage to my writing abilities!
I'm currently finishing up some fanfiction to make room in my brain for NaNo this year.
Hopefully I'll be able to make it to some meetings, however, I'm horrible at writing in settings that aren't familiar to me. So, maybe a party or two. =)
See ya on the first!

Hey there - I'm a newbie to this whole thing. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking to write; however, the month of November is going to be pretty tough for me to have a lot of designated writing time.
So, I'm going to work at it the best I can.

Hi All!
I'm Aoi (Eve...short for AoibhinnGrainne, pronounced EVE-ye GRAWN-ye). Or Laura. Whatever.
Anyway, this is my FIRST NaNo and I know nuthin'. I've toyed with the idea for several years, but life and that inner voice saying "you fool!" have kept me away.
Until now. God help me!
Anyway, I'm the annoying newbie who really will try to remain quiet but who would like to sit at your feet and learn, since you'all have a LOT more knowledge and wisdom about this than I do.
Anyway, hello. And thanks.
Aoi/Laura.

You'll be fine! Last year was my first year and I was nervous too--but it's not as hard as you think :) There really isn't too much to learn--I suppose it's different for everyone. But it's still a great deal of fun!
Hope to see you at a write-in or two and parties too!

Heh. I think Aoi and I have the same inner voice! I've contemplated doing this before, but this is the first year I've given in to peer pressure. And then, of course, my peer moved away. Boo hoo. Anyway, I'm very excited/scared about all of this. See you guys November 1st!

I'm also new to NaNo! I've done a lot of writing of fanfiction (even novel-length), but never tackled an original novel before. I'm very excited!
I live near the Dayton Mall, but just about anywhere sounds great for meetups. Looking forward to meeting some of you!

Aloha fellow writers,
I'm Kai and have been doing the nano for a few years. I live in Beavercreek, Ohio (Any other greenies here?).
If you need to know more about me, my daily-ish blog is http://danandkai.blogspot.com/ .. (Scarey PG warning..lol) .
I like to write all manner of things, but most thriller-horror-scifi everyone fights creatures kinda thing, oh and groovy romances when it's summer time. I can spin a good yarn.
I do most of my work at Panera in the Greene Shopping center cause they have food, coffee and don't mind me camping for hours at a table by the fire. (Thanks Will and Sharon.)
I'm there most Fridays and have a green stripy compie case if you need to scope me out before approaching.. (a wise thing)
My only downfall to writing is my atrochious spelling.. and need to abbreviate most words..
Thanks for letting me into the group.. peace, Kai

I have no idea why I do this to myself! Here I had a story w/ a ready outline that I was going to write for Nano... a story within my comfort zone... and now I'm thinking using a different story I've been thinking about writing sometime in the future. It's still a Star Wars fanfic, but not so much in my comfort zone, as the characters, both OC's (original characters as opposed to already established ones), are gay. Actually, one is gay and the other is bi-sexual. Though the story is not going to just focus on that, as sexual orientation is not the only thing that defines a person, fictional or not.

Is anyone besides me having trouble waiting until November 1 to write their story? Every time I sit down to write something else, all I can think of is the the NaNo story!

That's not unusual...if you're having trouble not writing about the story, there's nothing wrong with making some notes for a plot outline.
It keeps you from actually writing the draft but still allows you to enjoy the story.
There's a lot of purists out there that say you shouldn't write anything on it ahead of time if it's for NaNo, but there's nothing in the rules that say you can't be prepared...I can't write without an outline!

LOL..
I'm the same way, I can't wait to start writing. I carry a notebook around and jot down all the ideas I have, or drafts for the story, certain conversations I'd use etc..
Im not a purist, but I don't start unless the fingers are twitching in a wild manner on the keys.. To each their own, it's more important to try then to stick to every rule!!
Peace, Kai

I've already started an outline. That's not the same as actually writing the story. The frustrating thing is, I have a few stories I've been posting chapters on a website for that I need to write ahead of time so I can just post regularly, but even though I know basically what I want to write, the only thing that will come to mind is the beginning scene of the NaNo novel. It is so hard not to go ahead and write it! It'll be the excerpt I post in my novel info once I'm able to actually start it.
Come on, Nov. 1! Get here already!

I understand completely Alexis.
My beginning came to me last night while sitting in the Greene Shopping center waiting to get picked up by MD, who stole my car to go skating.
It was sort of eerie with the chill in the air and folks were ignoring little old me on the bench by the fountain, out came the notebook...
hmmmmm...
It was a dark and scary night..lol.. (It's Nov 1st somewhere?)

Shoot, did that not go through? I thought that I'd posted here, like, a week ago (but the page timed out on a couple of other posts, so maybe that one didn't make it either)
I'm Emily. This is I my third NaNo here in Dayton, I think fifth or sixth overall. I live way up in Clayton, but I work for Greene County libraries, mostly in Fairborn and Xenia. This year I'm poking dubiously at what's soft science fiction or even, God help me, a thriller, even though I mostly write historical fantasy. If I am incredibly foolish I might try two stories at once, since I had two ideas I couldn't decide between during plotting, and I have about three stories kicking down the walls in my head right now.
Anyway, hi!
