Anyone near downtown Dallas? Just moved here and I'm near downtown. I'd love to know of any great writing places here and to meet other nanowrimoers in the area.

I'm near Downtown as well. I think my hands-down favorite writing place is the giant Half-Price Books on Northwest Highway, which has a great cafe with a bunch of tables both in it and just outside it. They don't have wi-fi, which is always good so I don't get distracted with the Internet! I also love going to Cafe Brazil off 75 just past Mockingbird. They're open 24 hours, have great food, and I like the background noise. There was a great coffee shop off Greenville that has moved to Victory Park (by the American Airlines arena), so I think this year I might try White Rock Coffee. I prefer the locally owned places to Starbucks whenever possible. :-)

I'm out in east dallas county, but I would love to have some write-ins at Cafe Brazil. I haven't even been since I've been back, and that should change. :)
And I totally agree about the big Half-Price and White Rock Coffee. Both places are pretty awesome.

Thanks for the tips on writing places. I prefer local cafes too so I'll definitely check out White Rock Coffee.
Write-ins at any of those three sound great. I'll probably try to go to all three once a week for a little variety. I'd be up for write-ins anytime on Wed - Fri evenings and Sat or Sun afternoon.
November will be here soon and I still need to figure out what I'm writing about!

I *swear* the Cafe Brazil french toast with fruit helps me write better. ;-) Let's definitely try to have some write-ins there, especially if you haven't been in a while, TSSSIL! I have fond memories of being there at all hours during college (I went to SMU, right down the road from there) writing, eating, and cramming for finals, heh.

Sounds awesome. Something close to the beginning of November, too. Because, seriously, I'm not going to make it out to Arlington for a kickoff, no matter how awesome it's going to be. :)

French toast sounds good. And as long as they have good coffee, I can keep up a good writing pace for a while.
Should we try to meet on Nov 1 or 2 at Cafe Brazil?

I say we wait and see when/where the kickoff is going to be (since it might be at Half-Price over HERE, yay!) and then plan. If the kickoff is local I definitely want to go, but I'm with you--Arlington is a no-go. The farthest outside of the 635 circle that I travel is up to Lewisville for work! LOL
Cafe Brazil is supposed to have really good coffee, but I don't drink the stuff, so I'm going off the word of many friends on that one. :-)

I most likely won't be able to attend the kick-off anyway because of work. Unless people came to the Barnes and Noble at firewheel to do a more localized on... Then I'd watch everyone have fun while I worked. :) But I'd still kind of be there!

The HPB Mothership sounds like an excellent place to get together! I wonder if any of you are in the Meetup.com groups? There is planning meeting/meet and greet next Monday at Sherlock's in Addison off of Beltline if anyone is interested. I believe the group is meeting at 7.

I live in Uptown, there are a couple of Starbucks' nearby (West Village and another a few blocks South), a Borders at Lemmon and McKinney, and the Cafe Express at McKinney & Bowen.
There's also a Breadwinner's and about 20 other places nearby that are promising.
Anybody else in this area?

Breadwinners makes me drool...their food is so good. I swear, NaNo is going to make me gain 10 pounds!!

Yes! I live rather near there, closer to the Starbucks on Lemmon near Love Field.
I do love the sound of this Cafe Brazil place, however, I went to the website and now I am drooling...

I am an SMU alumni.
I live near the Starbucks on Lemmon and Inwood but I am willing to travel a reasonable distance for write-ins.
This is my first NaNo. I plan to attend the Addison MeetUp Nano Kickoff. Hope to see some of you there.

Thanks for all the cafe suggestions. I'll have aboslutely no excuse now for not achieving my word count each day with so many places that are close by.

I'm kinda close. I work in Plano, but I live near Bachman Lake. I'm new to NaNo, and I just wanted to say hi! I have no plot at the moment which scares me! Any one willing to help a newbie??

Hi! I'm also located near downtown (Lovers and 75) and am looking for places to write. Unfortunately, I work afternoon/evenings up in Plano, and normally don't get home until about 8pm, which puts a damper on a lot of evening write-ins, but if they go late and into the weekends I'm there.
I haven't been to Cafe Brazil or White Rock Coffee before, but will definitely have to check it out, along with going to the Kick-off planning, if I get off work in time.

I'm right near the Starbucks at Lemmon and Inwood too-- and I'll be spending a heck of a lot of hours there this weekend if anyone wants to join me. Just posted in the write-in thread (identifying myself as the twenty-something brunette in the bright yellow t-shirt), but I'll be there this morning, from 11 until 2 or 3. I know, it's not an independent coffee house, but it's just so gosh darn close. . . .
