**Raises hand**
I'm a grad student out there. Though I'm probably going to piss off my prof by not devoting enough research time through November...

You guys aren't the only ones! *raises hand from ECSS* (Currently in class, woot!) There are a few others as well, I know someone's still got the contact of some of the others... I think we might try to do a Write-In in the Comet Cafe, so hopefully we'll all get to meet each other there.
If any one is a freshman, I was an Orientation Team Mentor this year. ^^

xD I'm actually a freshman - and I'm, of course, on the NaNo forums instead of studying for my programming test tomorrow... Oops!!!

I'm not at UTD, but I work up in Plano, so I'm in the area. Any good places to write? I generally have an hour or so to kill every afternoon, because I do my best to get out of the city before rush hour traffic hits, even though I don't have to be at work until 5.

Studying is overrated people, take it from me, I've been studying longer than you undergrads have been alive.
Seriously though, big props if you can do this and not screw over your coursework. I tried it a couple of years back when I was still taking classes and would have had at least one 'C' if I didn't bail out at around 5k words.
Where in Plano? A good friend of mine that does NaNoWriMo every year use to hit up The Flying Saucer at the Tollway & Beltline. A bit South from you but they've got great beer and free WiFi.

Jelly, you're a fish? Sweet. I'm a sophomore. I probably saw you over the summer then. Which Orientation did you go to?
Programming, fuuun... *slight sarcasm* I keep raiding the NaNo forums during my CS2 class... ^^' ('s where I am now)
Are we gonna be up for meeting in the Comet Cafe/PUB? I figure that those could be good places to meet up, though, should we throw some kind of pre-NaNo thing, just so we all know who we are and can cheer each other on as soon as it starts? I'd like to get to meet everyone at some point.

xD Yes, I'm a fish - I'm also made out of jelly, hence the name! (Please excuse my lame attempt at humor, it's 4:30 AM)
Yup, I'm a freshman! I went to the first orientation, and was on Blue Team (^_^) at Comet Camp.
Yes, programming, /funn/. I have the second part of my test in... just under 6 hours. And I still need to sleep and study.
Personally, I'm good to meet pretty much anywhere, whenever. I'm normally just sitting around online/trolling the NaNo forums.

Yay for 4:30 AM comments!
Cool! But Blue team... Red team! :D (I've been on Red team for two years now, once as a fish, once as an OTM) Oh, and you went to the Orientation that the video failed to play at... alas. You didn't get Rick Rolled by Jainan. And who was your OTM, if you don't mind me asking? *is curious*
Well, I'm guessing you're actually taking your test right now, judging by times and what you've said, so I hope you're doing well and good luck anyways! What's your major? (Again, curiosity.)
I'm open mostly in the evenings, except Monday nights when I host Heroes watching parties at my apartment. I've also got random hours during the day open, but my weekends... I've got next weekend open, but the one after that is taken by a RenFest trip, and then we get to NaNo itself.

*gasps* I missed being Rick Rolled? TT_TT I love that song!!! It's both my ringtone, and my answertone, so everyone who calls me or is in the room with me get's Rick Rolled. Yes, I'm a mean person. I had Michael as my OTM.
Arigatou for the well wishes! ^_^ I don't think I did very well, but that's what happens when you get behind on your reading. I'm a CE major. (Eh, curiosity's a good thing... normally. xD)
I... am getting food and then sleeping until my beta test starts. That sounds good.

I tutor on Parker Rd at Preston. Because of my hours, I've been leaving Dallas early and hanging out at either the Barnes and Noble at 15th and Alma or the starbucks at Alma and Parker.

Heh, I've noticed that this has developed into two simultaneous, different conversations. Oh the joys of the internet.
And yeah, you did. It was saddening that the video didn't work, but we still have it if you really want to watch it. ^^ And Michael, cool. He's awesome.
If you agree, and might be interested in being an OTM too, you should come to an OTM interest session next week.^^Yeah, I hear ya. I've got a program due today and I haven't started and don't really know what's going on... I hope it's not TOO bad. >_< I'm an Atec major, so my CS stuff is on the degree requirements, even if I don't ever plan on programming something ever again. (Curiosity killed the cat... and satisfaction brought it back? ;) )
Food... always good... *realizes she's hungry* >_> At least we've got our own kitchens here, rather than dorms where you're limited by the hours that they are serving food.

Oh me! I go to UTD! I usually hang out on campus, though I know the Frisco/Plano/Richardson area well enough. My schedule is bipolar-schizophrenic at best, so if we plan on any get-togethers, perhaps you guys can just pick some possible times and I'll just choose the one I'm most likely to get to.
Alyssa! Fellow OTM, Nobody, Tree Root (sorry, been reading too much Shoebox)! Fancy meeting you here *append sarcasm* seeing as you were the one who talked me into this. Lovely, lovely.
Hello jellyfish!...fishy fish...jelly fishy fish... sorry, where was I? Oh yes, nice to meet you! I..don't have much else to say except how is your first semester going?

I'm a UTD student, sitting in my Global Econ class right now in the Conference Center actually. Fun class, but I have a hard time concentrating on it for three hours straight. I don't spend much time on campus and I take all my classes in the evening (earliest is Bio on Tuesday/Thursday @ 4pm).
This is my first semester at UTD, but in terms of credits I'm a 2nd semester Junior. I spent the last two years on a leave of absence, just transferred to UTD from UD (Catholic university over in Irving). I'm an Econ major, hehe.

I set up a few write-ins in the comet cafe last year - hoping to do the same this year if anyone is interested. It's a good place because there are plenty of tables, and all the booths by the walls have outlets to plug in our laptops.
Also, we may just try to camp at some places that are nearby:
- Atlanta Bread Company: good food + free wi-fi
- Cafe Brazil: Open 24 hours on weekends I believe, with plenty of caffeine to keep us going
- Starbucks (of course)
Any other suggestions?

Those places sound like good ideas! Freebirds would be another option, but it might be a little loud in there.
I'm free on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7pm on, and Friday through Sunday all day. So I guess I'm pretty flexible, the only days I can't do anything in the evenings are Mondays (World Resources & Development) and Thursdays (Global Economy).

Yaaay UTD! (: I'm an undergrad (Sophomore year) there and it's awesome to see people from here doing NaNo. The Comet Cafe gets pretty quiet in the evenings so it'd be good to do write-ins and stuff there, I think, and anyway there's always that quiet lounge on the second floor.

Sounds good to me! I agree freebirds is probably a little noisy, but they do have the free wi-fi as well, which is handy. And the food is delicious!
Maybe everyone could nanomail me what evenings would be best for you to attend a comet cafe write-in, and I'll compile them and post the results here? Are we looking to do weekends, or weekdays after school/work?
Info about parking... if we do events on the weekends, metered parking is free. Regular (green/gold) parking is enforced until 5pm on Saturdays, but after 5 you won't get ticketed, and Sunday it is not enforced at all, so no tickets on Sundays. Or after 9pm any day parking isn't enforced so if we want to do a late-night session and all arrive after 9pm there's no reason to worry about tickets in that case. Of course, if you are a UTD student and already have a green or gold tag or live in waterview, you don't ever have to worry.
Just let me know! Looking forward to meeting all of you!

What's the actual name of the group (so I can find it), please? :D
Also, I'm mostly available Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2:30 and 7:00, Fridays from 1:00 to 5:00, and Saturdays and Sundays just about any time of the day. (All of this is subject to change as I may be starting a new job sometime after mid-November.)

I'm cool with late night sessions on the weekend. I'm free from 1-6 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and free from 1 to Monday on Fridays. Gah, I hate evening classes.
To brimh, the name is "UTD NaNoers, 2008". I think searching for it should make facebook pop up with the group. It'll have two people in it. xD I'm sure there's more NaNoers are UTD (as evidenced by this thread!), we just have to dig 'em up.
To ablotial, would you like to be the organizer and whatnot? The facebook group might be a good place to send out messages for events, since the messages go to our emails, too.

I don't mind being an organizer - but I'd rather not be the only one. The more people who can schedule events the better, that way you don't have to conform to my schedule (which as a PhD student can be somewhat limiting).
I agree, if the facebook group gets a reasonable number of people in it, that would be a great way to let everyone know about write-ins. I'll also post anything we decide in the UTD group on LiveJournal.
Right now it's looking like Friday and Saturday evenings are free for just about everyone. Do we just want to set up a standing Comet Cafe meetup from like, 6-10 on one or both of those nights? I'm hesitant to go any earlier than 6 during the week (including friday) because many people are in there chit-chatting between classes. Just keep in mind if we do Fridays that parking is not free until after 9pm. But you can stop at the information booth and get a visitor's pass, it's just more annoying that way, and you can't park in the meters that are right next to the comet cafe (well, unless you want to pay for the meters).
Thoughts?

A group of us has decided to get together on Saturday (November 1!) from 6-10pm in the Comet Cafe.
You don't need to stay the entire time, but it would be great to meet everyone and maybe we could set up times and locations for other meets.
If you are not a UTD student and would like to come, you may park in the metered spots outside the Student Union without having to worry about being ticketed, they are not enforced on the weekends. There is a lot of construction in that area, but it's the closest spot. If you would like to park in green or gold parking, you will need to get a visitor's permit from the booth at the main entrance to the university.
Here is a map of campus
I suggest parking in Lot K, which is metered, but they are constructing a new building between ECSN and SU, so if you don't want to park near construction then Lot J is also an option as long as you stop and get a visitor's pass on the way in. The visitor's booth - travel north on University Parkway from Campbell and you'll find it - it's marked with red letters on this map.
We'll be in SU. If you park in Lot K, you can go in through the back door. I'll try to place signs before 6pm with arrows to the cafe.

**Following up on what ablotial said, parking in 'green' parking in ANY of the parking lots is O.K. after 5pm on Saturdays.**
I'll be looking forward to being there!
Do you want me to come a little early to help with anything?
