Kim,

I've been thinking I'd like to chip in with some prizes and have some ideas of a few items I could get that could be thrown into the goody bags. I'll bring them to our regular meeting in Oct. I would get enough of each item for 10 or 15 people. (Or should it be more like 20+?) I wonder if anyone else would like to do the same? We have such a wonderful ML, it'd be nice to help her out.

I have an idea for prizes, too! Well-- not prizes so much as, um, a ~*motivational*~ tool. I'm not sure how many I can afford to make, but that's what I'm finding out now. But it's halfway a secret, so I don't want to talk about it too much. :o Suffice to say that it is something that involves a prototype and some finishing touches, so I can bring it in on the pre-kickoff meet-up. >> ...alternately, I should be finishing *mine* this weekend, I just need to grab Masheli and drag her to the store with me to help me choose sizes and inserts.

I make it sound so much more complicated than it is. |D ...SUFFICE TO SAY THAT I WANT TO HELP OUT TOO and will be bringing a fancy surprise along with me. I just need to see how much time and money making *one* takes me. [makes mysterious hands]

I also wish to contribute to such a thing. (Assuming I haven't already volunteered to do exactly that... I volunteer again!) It's been so wonderful and motivational to have a group all year, which is thanks to you, Kim. And our lovely group! And last year's NaNoing was just fantastically delightful. (I still play with my rubix!) Anything I can do to help, I'd like to offer it.

Can we tell I'm already over-psyched for NaNo this year? Yes. Yes, I think we can.

Helping is a good idea!

I think we should make a new thread and do a shout-out for all the people that are definitely going to be there to get the gifts, because that way we know just how many to bring. I'll figure out something, too, as a noveling gift for everyone. Good idea, whoever mentioned it!

Yeah, I have the protoype for my ~*awesome*~ NaNoWriMo Motivational Gift. I just blew like 25$ on candy for it. |D I'll need a few more supplies, but I should have a few ready to go by the pre-write meeting, so...

If you need any help with anything, give me a heads up. I wasn't able to make any of the meeting last year due to a dead car - and a dead me, but that's a long story - but I'm psyched and ready for this year! As long as I don't have to make a sign with nylon inserts again, I'm all over anything.

I'm a newbie. When's the pre-meeting?

Just found the calendar. Is the pre-meet the writing group on the 16th? Would you mind if I crash it?

Here's hoping I can make it. I'm way too much of a lurker to be social. ._.;

roborabbit--who cares about being social? We're writers; we practically DEFINED anti-social. (And here's to ignoring tortured artists!)

The meetings aren't exclusive at all. Anyone can show up! :D

So, is anyone else torn between two plots? I've got one that I decided on ages ago that is FULLY PLOTTED OUT (ohmygawd! This is the first time I've done this. Let's hope I didn't screw myself over!), but just the other day a completely separate idea smacked me in the face (This is counting the other one that hit me, but I know I'd never waste that one on a NaNo plot--it's freaking amazingly psychotic and mind-warpy).

I mean, most likely I'll go with the first one, but I can't help but want to write the second. And the first. Arrg! Deciding plots is too much trouble.

I'm also (shamelessly) counting down the days and am considering making one of those little paper chains you make in kindergarten to count down to Christmas.

Oh, I guess like a p.s., but do we have any kind of confirmed number for the kick-off? Or should we just have a random number of goodies ready to hand out?

And on the calendar, it says something about writeins (not the meetings on Tuesdays). What are those?

So we're going to be meeting more than four days out of the month?!

Oh, man, now I'm ready to pee my pants, I'm so excited. This year is going to be AWESOME!

Thanks, Kim. :D

I am also having the evil two-plots problem! I finally decided on the weird ooze story, and after working out half of the outline (Congrats on having yours totally plotted! I am jealous), I've realized it's going to be way more science fiction than fantasy. One brief moment of "Awww... no crazy gods?" later, and now I have a totally new idea.

Ahh, the power of NaNo to squeeze out new plotbunnies. Who needs stress when we have you?

I like this paperchain idea! I think I shall do it... but maybe out of yarn. Then I can pretend I'll do something "productive" with it later.

Food for thoughts (I'll ask again at the meeting on the 16th, so feel free to mull): Is there anyone else interested in/able to attend meetings more than once a week? (Aside from our third thursday, of course.)

I am TOTALLY all for multiple meetings. Once a week isn't enough for me! No need to mull over it; I was actually hoping that someone might suggest it. I mean, every day might be a bit much, but more than once a week, since my time is always so short with that stupid curfew/school/parental thing.

Are we going to share outlines/plots/characters on the 16th/kickoff? Because I really want to brag. :D

I'm pretty positive I'm going to decide on the fully-plotted one, though. Since the other one I believe has much more merit than tossing it to the wolves of NaNo, and I'd love to take a lot of time on it. The other one...meh, I created it solely for NaNo, so it knew its fate from the beginning. I have no pity for it.

(Question: What were you doing up at four?!)

Then, additional mullings: Ideas on location? Time? I'm not sure if the usual place will be booked, but it seems likely. There's the Kaladi's we used to meet at, which might work for earlier meetings. Or the Kaladi's by Title Wave. Or, I'm sure there are other locations.

Yes, absolutely sharing of stuff at Kick-Off. Kim has Secret Ideas for the kickoff, so I'm not sure what all will occur, but there's lots of time. And of course on the 16th I'll want to brag too. :)

(Answer: It's the season of Insomnia. I'm awake at all sorts of ridiculous hours! Wheeeeeee! So rest assured: I was up at four because I hadn't yet gone to bed. o.O)

Ooh, I'm definitely down for more meetings. I'm a geek and I have nothing else to do. :B

Also, just as a question, how will I be able to find you guys at the Dennys? I've never met anyone, except for SMGriffin, so..

Back room=back left hand corner. I was lost my first time, until a waitress took one look at my writer-esque appeal and laptop bag and directed me to the correct place instinctively. Not to mention the fact that all the laptops should give us fellow nerds away. ;)

Either Kaladi's works for me (the one on the frontage road or by Title Wave). I hear there's one by that really tasty Cold Stone on Huffman, but I doubt that would be convenient for anyone. I'm not entirely sure where there are other places that have free wi-fi. But that wouldn't really matter, would it? We'd just need plugs. Hmmm.

Kaladi's also closes at 9. I remember that from last year, how everyone would pack up and head for Denny's while I would head home. For me, closing-at-9 works fine, since I've got the whole curfew thing going on. But for other people, you guys probably would want to stay past nine, right? Or you could bump it earlier than 7. I am pretty much available whenever.

Sorry for the pointless rambling. I'm kind of thinking as I go here.

...okay, somewhere while writing this I got distracted, looking for character bio outlines online, and I stumbled across this site:

http://www.thescriptorium.net/toolbox.html

It is a writer's "toolbox" that has loads of forms/outlines to help with characters, plots, worlds, etc. Seriously, super helpful. I'm going to get to work on them pronto tomorrow!

I'd love for multiple meetings, (hello this'll be the first time I actually found this portion of the forums) but I probably wouldn't be able to make any meetings that aren't on Mondays or Tuesdays. I work 3-11pm. So is anyone interested in meetings earlier in the day on Sundays and Saturdays?

Just curious.

Has anyone gone to Cafe Del Mundo? I called them the other day to find out how their internet access works since it comes up on my airport when we are at Dennys. They said what you have to do is come in, buy something and then they'll sign you up and give you a password. Haven't gone there yet to find out if you have to do that every time you go in or if you sign up just once. But since they're so close to Dennys if they close at a certain time and people want to go to Dennys afterwards they could. Any way just a suggestion for a second night a week meeting.

I've been to Cafe Del Mundo before (although I think it was a different location) and their coffee is way yummy. I'd put in a vote for them, or any cafe really.. I'm not picky. :B

Is this the Del Mundo on Tudor? I'm afraid I'm not terribly familiar with coffee places, not much of a drinker myself.
