Hello Edinburgh!

First, let me introduce myself. I’m Elysse, one of your Edinburgh Municipal Liaisons. The other in our dashing duo is the lovely PastMidnight, who I will allow to introduce herself.

I’m utterly thrilled that Scotland has regions this year! This is all thanks to one of our general ML’s from last year, Marie Rex, who managed us from Skye and then went on a whirlwind tour to see all the Wrimos at their Thank-God-It’s-Over parties.

So it’s October. I’m already plotting ways to up my wordcount, I’ve got my NaNo ML folder with all sorts of digital goodies (which boil down into two distinct options: “NaNo is TOTALLY AWESOME,” as it is, and “How not to die and make sure your fellow NaNos don’t, either!”), and have started scheming such things that will possibly get me nicknamed the NaNo Proselytizer (press releases yay!).

And now, the official things: please remember that this is an all-ages forum, and that above all your MLs are here to help.
Now sit back, relax, pour a caffeinated and/or alcoholic beverage of your choice, and relax (and introduce yourself, too!).

28 days until November—time to party!

Jessica, your other Edinburgh ML, checking in!

Elysse and I are excited to be helping out this year and have already been busy planning. We'll get a calendar up soon here on the Edinburgh forum and start posting more specifics about upcoming events.

This is my second year doing NaNo, my first year as ML. I write historical fiction, usually early 20th century. This year's idea is still in the fermenting stage, but I think it will be a time slip, starting in 1930s Hollywood.

Who else is here?

Hi there,

I'm down from you in the sunny Scottish Borders. As Edinburgh's only 40 miles away I felt it should be my home region.

I'm a complete newbie to writing. Bring it on...

This is my fourth (or maybe fifth?) year doing Nano, but I've just moved to Edinburgh from Saskatchewan, Canada. I'm looking forward to November here, and hope you meet lots of you!

^Long time, no see. Hehe.

Hello everyone!

This year's going to be my second time doing Nano. Maybe this time I can finish with more than 15 minutes to spare :D.

Hello All,

This is my first year doing NaNo and I am doing so on a bald-faced challenge from my son who said "Mom!!!... if you'd just finish a book already..." So, here I am taking the glove to the face and choosing the weapons for the morning of the duel!

I'm in Edinburgh (East End - word up to all the Broughtonites!) and am looking forward to taking this journey with all of you!

Hello everyone,

Crikey! I don't know how I'll get to 50K words - I just sat for five minutes thinking how to say "hello".

Oh well.

I'm Primrose, 41, living in Edinburgh, but I guess that two thirds of that is obvious already.

I have no plot yet, but I'm hoping that one will drop out of the back of my brain sometime before November.

Looking forward to speaking to you all.

Hi Primrose,

Welcome and don't worry. I've still got no plot yet either :-)

Hi,
My name is Hanna and this also my first NaNoWrimo in Scotland. I've recently moved here with my friend from Sweden and it's going to be fun to be writing in an active region. My previous location Gavle wasn't exactly an hotpot of any kind of activity. Except whining, I guess.

Hey,

I recently moved to Edinburgh, this is my second nano but hopefully my first successful one.

I do currently have multiple random ideas for a story, which is a first, but not sure on which one.

At least I have thought about it more than a week in advance, unlike last year, when I think I heard about it possibly only a day or 2 in advance. Oh well.

Looking forward to it!

Hello! I did NaNo five years ago (and got to about 30k) but I'm essentially a newbie :)

I'm originally from Manchester but I've lived in Scotland for nearly six years, and Edinburgh itself for nearly two. I am almost entirely without plot, but I'm hoping to use November to try and learn how to shut up my inner editor and establish a writing routine, rather than worry about coming up with anything actually good!

Looking forward to the challenge, anyway, and hoping to reach December without having had any sort of breakdown. A worthy ambition, I think.

Hi all,

I'm Kelly and this is going to be my first Nano. I have written a few stories before but it took me 5 years to get to 50k words! Procrastination is always my main enemy, so I'm hoping Nano will help me overcome that. I like the idea of writing first, editing later - just hope I can stick to it!

Hi guys,

I took part in NaNoWriMo last year, when I was living in London, but managed something pathetic like 15,000 words before petering out.

This year shall be different!

Good luck to all of us :o)

I'm Rachael, 20 and a proud Edinburger. This is my first nano, since I've now got the time to attempt it! Looking forward to getting started, as well as slightly scared. I watched my friend have a mild breakdown last year because of this....hopefully I'll do better! 0.o
Anyway, Thought I'd just pop in to say hello :)

Hey all,

Just wanted to say Hello as well.

I'm originally from Germany and have been living in Edinburgh for a year now.
This is my very first time and I must admit, I'm unbelievably nervous...
But still, this will be great fun.

Hello all, glad to find this Edinburgh forum.
This is my third NaNo and I am hoping to be successful again - though oddly enough I'm worrying that I've got too much plot! For the first two I only had very sketchy ideas, and that seemed to work well as I felt I could go off in whatever direction I felt like. Last year's effort started out as a (quite boring) comedy and turned into a thriller complete with car chases and bad people waving guns. This time I am feeling quite trapped by the plot which is a historical/fantasy, but we'll see what happens.
Good luck to all,
Sheila

Hi guys, I'm Jenny ( / Macey on the internet). This is my first NaNo, into which I've been alternately tempted & coerced by several veterans on my livejournal f-list. Sadly, they're in the US, and thus of limited help for the whole 'support' end of things ^.^'

I've just moved up here from Teesside for Uni ~ I'm first year Maths (hi, Manotlwen!) at Edinburgh Uni, and right in the city center, so if there're to be any coffee-shop takeovers near George Square-ish area, I'll be there ^_^

I have a working plot involving an amateur orchestra's rather startling and unnapreciated rise to 'fame', where 'fame' is the always-relative classical music version thereof, but it's still an affront to their peaceful ways! (or so my characters object). I'm - slightly unsure about it, because, well - I read fantasy / sci-fi and don't find 'every-day' books that entertaining, so heaven knows how this is going to go. Also, my MC is being frustratingly reticent. I might have to end up rotating PoVs, which is always ~interesting~ ... basically, I'm floundering merrily along, enjoying the excuse to mock oboe- and viola-ists mercilessly and trying to persuade the Leader to stop looking so much like a gay David Tennant ¬.¬
