Just throwing this thread up again ... we're still working out the intricacies of the 2008 Toronto NaNo Calendar of Events -- so if there's something you'd like to see us do, or not do again -- or somewhere you'd like to see us go (or yes, not go) -- this is the time and the place to say so!

Speak up now, or forever hold your ... aww, you know what I'm sayin'.

:3 I'd like to see a repeat of last year's subway writing session.

...so long as it's not on the same day of the Santa Claus Parade again this year, that is.

Hi Alyssa!

I think we can guarantee you another subway writing session :) Currently on the schedule for one week before the Santa Claus Parade.

Last year, we all met up at the far end of the Yonge-University line and filled a car (well, I didn't, I was in San Francisco, but I hear it was great) ... then just rode back and forth writing until people got tired of it and jumped off. No one really bothered us -- from the TTC, at least. ;)

Let us not forget watching Debs run up and down the car at Downsview (or there-abouts) when she reached... was it 30k?

I think that was the best part. Much better than almost getting covered in ice cream, anyway. (Why, exactly, do children need ice cream cones in the middle of November?)

Hi, Vic! :3

Sounds fun (althoguh not the bit about the ice cream). I am hoping for an overnight write. I missed it last year because of personal crap, but heard it was lots of fun.

Also, does anyone know when/ where you get the CD. Or how much? I got the email about that, and have none of the skills to contribute, but judging by the people running around at last years events, I kinda want a copy.

Hi AmaiRose,

We're going to be selling the NaNo CD as a fundraiser at events throughout the month! So you'll have plenty of opportunity to enjoy the musical stylings of our accomplished Toronto group :)

I believe the cost has yet to be decided... it's in the hands of the CD committee (Errol, Debs and Ryan).

There's been a couple of Mississauga locations I've been checking out - the large study rooms in the central library, and a couple of different coffee shops. Haven't had a chance to check out much beyond that out this way, though.

Does 'throughout the months' include the kick off party on the thirty first?

As far as events go, how far in advance are they usually planned? Because I work shifts and it's either luck of the draw, or I have too book stuff off two-three weeks in advance, and I'm really hoping to get to some this year.

Thanks.

I think they plan quite in advance. The kickoff party is on the 30th of October.

The all nighter is on the 22nd. This will probably be updated on the nano calendar on the toronto nano website.

The full calendar will be available by the kick-off party, if not before. (And yes, that'll be on the 30th ... we didn't want to mess with anyone's Halloween.)

As for venues...I suggest The Red Tea Box on Queen W, and Niche (around there as well). They're both really adorable cafes...which are oh so fitting for writers.

Red Tea Box is a bit pricey, and a bit fancy ($25 for tea and lunch), but they offer tea-themed lunch bentos, where the bento-food is prepared to accent and compliment the tea you're drinking. They also have copious amounts of elaborately decorated little cakes. Probably not best for a large meeting, but likely good for a smaller write-in. They have a Mad Hatter Bento ^_^

Niche is....delicious coffee. They're smaller as well, but have a bit more spacei n the back, nice server-girls, and conveniently close to Miss Behav'n if you want to catch a peek of the window girls (for your novel, of course).

May I humbly suggest a mid-town event or two? Not everyone lives downtown! I myself would prefer to but right now, am marooned at Yonge/Sheppard for financial reasons. I love my very cheap apartment for it being a nice apartment, but downtown is a bit of a trek. Something Yonge/Eg or so would be perfect.

We are looking at doing a couple of writing sessions around Yonge and Eglinton. :)

And yes, to echo what Deej just said - I plan to come in costume to the kick-off, so it's definitely encouraged :D

Yikes. I'm notorious from getting travel sick doing almost anything that involves doing... anything other than simply travelling. Trying to write on the subway would destroy me in about three minutes.

I'm not sure how far out of the way this is, but maybe the S. Walter Stewart library sometime? Close to my home, and since I'm a kid (okay, 13, but younger than most), I'd probably be able to come and meet some people! I can't come to most because my parents may think I'm too young (and honestly, I'd agree).

So think about maybe meeting there a few times (although to use the conference room, you'd have to talk to the librarians I think). Also, weekends are preferred.

Thanks, 'cause I do want to participate!

Victoria

S. Walter Stewart Library is actually relatively close to a lot of the Danforth crowd. I think (unless he moved since I last spoke with him) Errol lives *very* close to that place as well. It's close to my parent's place.

BTW, I did introduce myself before the servers crashed and my introduction got lost in cyberspace. Unfortunately, my intro will have to wait a bit as I'm in a middle of a major print job that *has* to be done by tomorrow morning. All I'll say for now is that I'm Lillian and this year I'm declaring myself a Nano rebel.

Wait, how do you know where I live? Stalker!

I was just talking to Vicky about that too. I thought the library sounded familiar.

She was in chat (as the rest of you should be).

She punched me after only meeting me for 20 minutes. I think that's a record.

Okay, so if something could be set up there, that'd be great! 'Cause I can drag a friend or two along (even ones not participating in Nano just for the heck of it).

And now punching you is going to be a regular thing. >.>

Hmm, even I haven't punched you yet. But then again, that might be the fact that the only time I've seen you is at church.

Oh, by the way, the Santa Claus parade is the 16th, right? The week before would be great for me (hopefully everyone else, if not that's okay) 'cause I'm with my dad so I can bring my sister and hopefully Mignonette.

Dunno. Wait to see what everyone else's plans are like, but I'm just suggesting a good time for my Nano group. ^^

Our church is awesome. Don't mess.

And I already told you, I won't be able to come on the subway write-in. My parent's will probably think I'll get kidnapped or raped, and they're too lazy to come themselves, so I won't be able to come. The SWS write-in should be fine, though, I mean, I can just say I'm going to the library for the day.

Well, maybe it would make them feel better if you told them I would make sure you weren't kidnapped. :D

If I go. I don't know when it is though, so I don't know if I can go.

Are we sure the SWS doesn't mind loud and crazy people in their library?
