Are you hosting a write-in this November? That's awesome of you! Here's what you need to do to maximize your time and resources:

  • Be sure you've downloaded a table tent from the ChiWriMo website if you're meeting in a public place. That way, it'll be easier for people to find you. You can go directly to the writer resources download page by clicking here.
  • Post a request to this thread to have your write-in information added to the ChiWriMo Calendar.

Please be sure to include the date(s), start/end time(s), address (and location if it's not a residence), and any other pertinent information. If you have questions please contact Michelle or Tim using the information listed at the top of the forum.

As a side note, please try not to schedule write-ins in the city on the nights of the official write-ins (primarily, Monday nights). We have a goal of having as many wrimos in one place and time as possible! (Plus, we have prizes and giveaways people might miss out on!)

Also, please do not respond to this thread to RSVP to write-in sessions; this thread is for calendar requests only.

Hey Tim. A few people responded to my poll about a weekly write-in in the Loop, so I guess let's go ahead and add that! I'm thinking Wednesday nights, since it's mid-week.

The location can change if we're not satisfied, or if anyone has a better suggestion. But if no one objects, then this is what I'm thinkin':

When: Every Wednesday, 5-9 PM, come whenever, leave whenever.
Where: Au Bon Pain, located at the corner of Michigan and Adams. The technical address is 122 S. Michigan Ave, but the entrance to it is actually on Adams St.

They're open until 9 on weeknights and have free wireless, plus an assortment of yummy foods like muffins, cookies, salads, coffee, soup, etc, for pretty reasonable prices.

When you walk into the restaurant, head for the back where all the seating is, and I'll try to find an area with lots of plugs for laptops!

It's a meet up where local NaNoWriMo participants write, share ideas, and generally share the company of other writers in a public place. Our official write-in locations this year are at Open Books, a literacy education non-profit located close to the Chicago brown line station downtown. They have free beverages, free wifi, comfy couches, and often have candy. And we're working on having pizza this year as well at write-ins!

I've got it on the calendar...check it out and make sure all the information is correct. You should have modify-access as well as create-access if anything needs adjusting :)

Oh, OK thank you. Unfortunately, it's too far for me to drive. I live in the north suburbs. But if you guys ever have one in the Libertyville/Vernon Hills area, I can probably make it!

I'm going to leave this off the calendar for now until you know what time you're meeting up at least - let me know when that's decided and I'll add it.

bobbipayne,

I've added all but one of your events to the ChiWriMo calendar.

The final one on 11/30 conflicts with the grand finale ChiWriMo is hosting (well, Open Books and ChiWriMo) and we want to be sure we get as many people to the grand finale write in as possible.

If you still plan to go to Ventrella that day that's cool - but you'll miss the cookie swap, a few door prizes, food/drinks, and more...

Hi there folks,

I'm hosting weekly write-ins on Wednesdays in Hyde Park. The first one is today (the 5th) and there will also be events on the 12th, 19th, and 25th (the Tuesday before Thanksgiving because I'm out of town on the 26th).

The write-ins are gonna start at 7 and go to at least 10 and they will be held in non-coffee-shop locations. This evening we're gonna be at the Noon Hookah Lounge at 1617 E 55th street which is an awesome place to write.

Other potential locations include (but are not limited to): The Cove (where Vonnegut wrote and drank), Orly's, The Snail, The Falcon, The Florian, The Flamingo, and Megan's Cat-Infested Den of Iniquity. All of these sites are within 4 blocks of Lake Park Blvd and 55th.

If you're in the Hyde Park area or want to write in a different sort of atmosphere, stop on by. If you are not of drinking or smoking age and would therefore have difficulty getting in to some of these places, message me and we will write in a place where you can write too.

I assure you future locations will be chosen and posted at least a day in advance as opposed to 4 hours in advance. I am pumped to get out in the neighborhood and do some writing.

I'm hosting Friday night write-ins up in Lincoln Square!

They'll be from 7-10 at Cafe Descartes (4771 N. Lincoln Avenue, at the northern corner of the Square), which is nice and cozy and has free wi-fi. If we find that the group is too big, we'll move it to the Starbucks a block or so south (4600 N Lincoln Ave), but that is pretty unlikely.

Anyway it should be awesome. I'll put one of the tents out so you can tell who we are (or you can figure it out from the sticker on my laptop :)

Wonderful! That's right in my neighborhood. I desperately need a write-in--I"ve been working overtime all week, struggling to meet work deadlines, but I need to do my own writing! I'll be there with my Alphasmart. Thanks for organizing this!

Ok, I'm confused. Your original request said Starbucks was the overflow....go ahead and post all the information again as a reply to this including what you want the comment section to say and I'll re-add it to the calendar.

Sorry about the confusion. Here it is again, with information changed:

I'm hosting Friday night write-ins up in Lincoln Square!

They'll be from 7-10 at Starbucks (4600 N Lincoln Ave, just a little south of the Square and the Western El stop). It's big and has lots of tables for laptops or notepads. I'll put one of the tents out so you can tell who we are (or you can figure it out from the sticker on my laptop :)

Hyde Park/South Side/UChicago regular Wednesday write-in update:

Hey, we have come to a consensus on the writing location: Noon Hookah Lounge all the way. So if you're on the South Side on a Wednesday night, come on by. The writing fun starts at 7 and goes until 11.

The dates are the 12th, 19th, and 25th (the Tuesday before Thanksgiving) and again, the place is the Noon Hookah Lounge at 1617 E 55th. See you there.

Hi! When will the next one at Hawthorne Mall in Vernon Hills be?

I'm anxious to go and meet everyone from my area! Maybe you'll all inspire me to get more words written, lol. I seem to be having issues with that. Thursdays are PERFECT days for me, so from now on (I'm back from my trip now) I can make every meeting held at that B&N on Thursdays.

Good luck to everyone!
