I'm back for another year and looking forward to another year to frustrated maddness. I even already have a plot and title ready to go.

Awesome, Muse! I'm so glad you're gonna join us again this year.

So have you got a story in mind yet?
Plot outline?
Character profiles?
Or are you just winging it?

I have a couple of ideas floating around in there right now, but nothing I've wanted to jump on yet. I am going to start doing some research this week on one of my ideas. How about you? Are you thinking of going with the idea you mentioned yesterday?

Yep Jennybeans, I think I'll go with Were-creatures roaming London. I need to do a little research as well, I want them to have their own religion/mythology. The English really don't have much in the way of Mythology :( so it gives me a fair bit of latitude.

YAY! I'm so glad Mindy's joining us. This is going to be a great NaNo year. Last year I bombed out at less than 10,000 words. I did manage to make it with JulNoWriMo, so I know I can do it.
Brit, I'm thinking zombies, vampires or serial killers right now. Like I said, I have to do some research to help me make the decision, but I know I'm in a serious horror mood!

After a disappointing show my first year then last year pulling it off right there at the end, I hope to finish this year with well more than 50,000 and ahead of schedule. Unsurprisingly, I have decided for the third year in a row to tackle a historical romance. My current working title is Bitter Longing, very romance novely I know. And here is the synopsis I have posted under my user profile. I am currently hard at work on outline to get me through the coming long month of writing.
Bitter Longing Synopsis:
After an accident left her crippled, Lady Deidre Langton insisted that the society which she could not go to would have to come to her. It didn't take long for those that made the trip to realize their mistake. Lady Deidre, once the toast of local society with hopes of a glorious season in London and an excellent match, had become a bitter shrew.
Though it was clear Deidre was content to live on her brother's estate for the rest of her life with only the occasional visitor, her brother refused to accept her forced isolation. He had every intention of seeing her married within the year and he had just the right man in mind.
Nathan Spencer, the Earl of Hounslow, remembers well the spoiled and selfish girl he met years ago when visiting his friend the Viscount of Luton’s home. So he has little hope that his friend’s plan to see his sister happily situated will be met with any success. Still in support of his friend, he joins the party at Luton’s home and finds a woman who is not as content alone as she would have them all believe.

Ooh, that sounds like it's going to be a good story. I hope you'll share it on the archives so I can read it. I really enjoyed A Hint of Scandal while you were working on it.

I do hope to post some of my story in the archives when November is done. Last year I didn't even get the chance to post an excerpt I was so busy churning out more words. Several times in the last year I have set to work on A Hint of Scandal but mostly have ended up doing rewrites. There were so many things bothering me about what I already had that I ended up rewriting and/or tweaking the vast majority of what I already had. I probably ought to repost the chapters I already had on the archive to get some opinions on the changes. Maybe I can finish tidying up the edits for chapters 1-6 (I know five and six aren't yet on the site but I do have them) and post them before November.

I do love an historical romance MyMuse so it sounds great to me :)
Okay so this is my summary:
With good looks, success and money Jared could pretty much have any woman he wants but unfortunately for Jared, the one woman in the world that he does want is also the only woman that in the world who seems utterly oblivious to his charms. He may just have to enlist the help of the W.I. with that too.
But my question is - Do Americans know what the W.I. is?
----------23,146 / 50,000
oct. 6, 2008 - 13 57
Brit, I don't about all Americans but this one doesn't know what the W.I. is. So I guess the question is, what is it?
Hopefully tonight I can look over the first chapter edits of HOS and post at least that. I will post a note in the CoC forum when I do.

I'm baaaaack. It seems like this is the only time I get to socialize with the Crones. :(
Anyway, I'm ready to give it a go again. Last year was really hard because the idea didn't bother making itself known until the very last minute, and even then it wasn't sure it wanted anything to do with me. I'm still trying to get the details of that one worked out to see if any of it is salvageable.
This year? Nothing solid yet, but I AM getting excited. Unfortunately, I had to go back to work. It's a side effect of having a spouse change jobs last December and take the one offered by a financial institution... in the home loans department.
Oh, yeah. Good times.
He's still employed, but not by the same company (same desk, different logo) and we don't know for how long. We thought it would be best if I took the job offered by the school district "just in case." I keep saying the job is seriously cutting into my writing time...
Just kidding.
Ok, not really kidding about it cutting into the writing time, but the part where I whine about it.
Ok not really kidding about the whining either, but I'm happy to help.
Ok not really happy, but...

:( Karen, my husband works in the housing industry too. IT hasn't been a pleasant past three years, let me tell you. He's half working half not working half of the year, and by the time he goes back and we finally catch up on everything, his hours get cut or he gets laid off again. I have been working like mad to try and make up for it. It does cut into writing time, BIG TIME!! I hope you have time to do NaNo, and to visit with us more often.
My zombies are starting to take on a life of their own. I'm writing a short story right now, possibly not even related, but maybe within the same incident. I have some research materials coming that I hope will help me define my idea a little better. But for now, I'm just sticking with the reanimated dead.

My other half is in the building industry too, so far the company he works for seems to be still getting in work, but if anyone cancels...
During the last recession he was made redundant over and over, so this is a scary time for just about every one.
On to happier topics - Llew, I'm so glad to see the Zombies are shaping up :)
As for the W.I
I've always though of them as the female equivalent of The FreeMasons, but if the US wouldn't know the W.I it could make one of my plot bunnies a little awkward.
Did nobody see Calender Girls?

Sorry, haven't seen Calendar Girls but I can certainly correct the oversight. I will rent it this weekend.
Are you sure there isn't some way to work around those who may not understand what it is? A way that you could either explain what it is or just give enough context for people who don't know to figure it out? I certainly didn't mean to kill your plot bunny.

Don't be sorry MyMuse, it's a reality check. Even posting on Crones most of the readers would be American so it's useful to know if a plot bunny would just fall flat. I will be able to use the plot bunny but being forewarned I'll have to introduce them slowly to give them context.
I won't discourage you from watching the film though - it has a fantastic cast none of whom are wasted and well worth a watch. It's very funny but I do warn you not to rent it if you are feeling low. It's based on a true story and in parts it's heartbreakingly sad - you'll need to have the Kleenex on standby.

Brit, I am writing a zombie short story now to see how it goes. Of course, my main character is already getting romantic with one of the other survivors and I wanted to shoot her. Then I thought if it was chaos at the end of the world and you didn't know how much longer you had to live, there would be a lot of "romance" when you had time. So, I'm going with it. It's pretty gross in some points already, at least I thought so. I'll post the draft on Crones when it's done... hopefully this weekend. Of course, I have a great opportunity to write right now and what ma I doing? Posting and surfing the net and watching back episodes of Destination Truth because I'm a nerd like that.
I think you can work your way around your plot problem. You have that group in mind, so create something powerful enough that any country's culture could recognize it what it really meant, and make the W.I. stand out. You can do it. You are amazing at shedding light on things I would never have thought of.

Waving back to everyone. Evidently I don't get notification of new posts here, so I thought maybe I'd broken the darn board. Is there a way to get notification of posts here? Is there an easier way to find the way back without scrolling through the other forum boards?
It's good to see everyone, and I can't wait for November.

Ms. Karen, you can save the thread link, or go to the COC forums and pop right into it from there. We have a thread in the NaNo section of the forum with a direct link to our thread here. I think you can also go to your settings and allow messages to be sent to you when you subscribe to a thread.

Ah, yes, well, you see... in true techno-dorkiness, I didn't notice the "subscribe" link at the bottom of the first post. When it's obvious, I miss it. When it's subtle... I tend to miss it then, too. It's what happens when you combine dorkiness with obliviousness. In my own defense, I'm not like that when I'm driving. (I'm too busy swearing a blue-streak at the drivers who ARE like that...)

I am going to a local pre-Nano plot outlining event tomorrow. Is anyone else planning on getting involved with the local ML planned events? I went to last year's pre-Nano planning event and some write-ins. It was fun to get to know other people in the area who enjoy the same things I do.

Thanks Jenny :)
I'll be writing Fan Fiction, I always do. I was toying with the idea of Original Fiction...but what I have planned for that is too complicated and needs real planning. So its easier to just go with fan fic for NaNo..lol
I don't ever plan on anything, just dive in and let my imagination take over. I just hope to actually reach 50,000 this year. Last year I got to 30,000 and burned out...

Just found this thread today. I've been looking for a while. I'm here, I'm new, and it's my first NaNo. Too bad my application to the CoC forum was declined. I'm hoping it was the software glitch I read about on the site. Would be nice if it was, and I wasn't actually rejected. :(
Hurry up, November!

Ah Helen :( We would love to have you.
First we had the evil spammers, now we have the evil anti-spam software that seems to ban friend or foe alike.
I did however get your e-mail and I have my minions looking into it. Okay actually it's only one minion AKA Steve AKA The King of Crones. We let him have the last title because it makes him feel important and less out numbered/bullied.
So hang tight, we'll get back to you once we squish the bugs. Until then chill here with us and feel free to rant. ramble and gossip :)
