A Vancouver Writers Get Together?

Great idea! A few other Vancouver Wrimos are hosting write-in get togethers, too. I'll be hosting one at the Sip N Play on Monday afternoons starting next week. We're letting everyone know the times and places in the Write In thread. If you have a place and time in mind, please share it on the board. I'd love to make as many as I can.

Hello Anne!

It's good to hear you're interested in this. We're planning a series of get-togethers this season. The biggest will be the Kick-Off party and our TGIO (thank goodness it's over) parties. Because these will be larger than other meetings we have worked up some door prizes, as well as a handful of writerly games in order to help us get in touch with our inner epiphany. Also, after the Kick-Off party we all intend on getting rid of our Inner Editors (they're not allowed) through an act of stowing them away. I always giggle when I toss mine away. Often times I can't find him again. You'll probably hear more about this at a later time, but I thought I'd tease your senses.

Also, we're looking for people to host write-ins across the board to allow for some smaller group meetings as well. The dynamic of the small group meetings usually surpasses the larger ones in two ways. First you get to know everyone on a personal level, you get to know their stories (or in part), and you will have a loyal fanbase as you work your way through your novel. If you check out the Write-Ins thread there are several posts offering date/time/location. Also, we do have a Google calendar with all of the locations/times available. It is accessible by everyone. We've been trying to get the link to work at the top of the Region's Forum page but it appears that we'll have to get someone with a slightly higher amount of clearance to fudge the code. It really doesn't like us.

Great idea, Anne! I definitely echo Ris' and Lynds' encouragement to find a write-in that works with your schedule and come at least a couple times. There's just something about sitting down in a cafe with a group of Wrimos all writing away that gets you inspired again. And if it doesn't, we've got plot grab-bags to jolt your creative energy.

I was thinking it would be fun to have a mid-way party that was more relaxing and fun than novel related. It would be a good way to touch base with people, and just take a quick break from your novel with people who understand what November is like for us. Thoughts feelings suggestions?

I have not participated in the Novel writing in a month this year but I am interested in meeting with a writers group on a regular basis in Vancouver/Portland area to share a sample of what we are working on and get constructive feedback. I am particularly interested in meeting with other Fantasy writers. I meet once a month with a writers group now, but I am the only fantasy writer in the group and the only fantasy reader as well, so the feedback isn't what I am hoping for. Would anyone be up for a once a month writers group meeting where we could read and get feedback or maybe brainstorm some ideas etc?
