Hey everyone, just thought I'd bring to your attention that, as has become tradition, we're having our first meetup of the year in Bryant Park on Columbus Day, October 13! We'll be in the park from 6 until the park closes at 8 and you are welcome to drop by for any or all of that time. We'll congregate in the Reading Room area, which is on the 42nd street side of the park about halfway between 5th and 6th Aves. Hopefully someone will remember to bring a sign so that we are easy to spot. Feel free to brown bag dinner, or there are plenty of places near the park from which you can get something to go. We'll hang out, meet each other, chat about our ideas, etc.

I won't post about every meetup; there's a link to our Google Calendar at the top of the New York :: New York City page, which has yet to be fully updated, but when it is, you can find out meetup info there.

I hope to see a lot of you on the 13th!

I'm so there, or at least I will be when it happens. Chances are I'll wear the nano shirt, and be the weird person staring at people before typing on my Neo.

I'm actually wearing the nano shirt today, just sans Neo. I'm curious to see if anyone recognizes the shirt or even asks what it's for. Should be interesting.

Alas, I won't be there--it's the first night of Sukkot. But I'll be there for all the other Monday meetups! At least the ones in November, which are after the holiday season.

I'm psyched that there's so much enthusiasm! Pray to the weather gods that it's a nice day!

Don't feel obligated to RSVP. Just show up! We usually don't need RSVPs for events; we try to find spaces that are large enough to accommodate everyone who would want to come. If we need RSVPs or head counts, we'll be sure to let you know.

Also traditionally, I will be wearing a strange outfit to this meetup. I mean, it's tradition to me. My other tradition is to wear a fancy dress to the thank god its over party.

So excited to meet the new people and see all my old friends. :)

Awesome! By the time I found out about the meetup last year, I already had other commitments. This year, I hope to be there.

Oh no! I'll be on LI until at least 5 PM that day! That's incredibly lame :(

Hopefully there will be more meetups that I can get to?

I should be able to make it. :) No school and all that. I will just do my best to stay out of the ER. Not being able to breathe isn't fun.

I have no idea if I'm going to have work that day/night, but if I don't, I'm totally there.. probably in my fox hat.. which I've just realized no one here knows about because last year I went to 0 events because I was workinga corporate job that ate my soul.

I'm going to try to be there. my offics is right off the SE corner of Bryant Park (above the Staples), so the locale is perfect. I have a 90 minute train ride home each night, though, so if I can make it, I probably won't be able to stay for very long. :-(

Really psyched to find a local group to kick around with for this whole thing, though. Lok forward to meeting you guys!

And for you folks with the Neos...I'm definitely going to want to take a look at them, if you don't mind. i used ot have a Dana before I scratched up its touchscreen, and I've been thinking about getting a Neo so I can leave my MacBook at home and spare it the bumps and bruises it's picking up on my daily commute.

Ugh, lame. I have to work till 1030 that night. Curse you capitolism! I'd stop by during my break at 5ish but I work at Union Square so it's a bit of a trip in such a short time. Alas, I shall have to stalk you all at a later date.

P.S. Don't call the cops, it only encourages me. >.>

P.P.S. Seriously, don't call. It's only a joke. Scout's honor.

That's really awesome. I love when meetups are on days off from school, so we student Wrimos can come celebrate the madness as well. See you there!

Amen to that, jazz! Our library is also closed that day, so I'm off of work (my shift is usually 6-10 on Mondays). YAY! So I'm dragging my fledgling wrimo friend down to Bryant Park. I love being able to decide I'm going to just go places.

NaNo 2008: Candlefire

This isn't going to end well, is it? *sighs* I thought not.

It was great seeing so many people at Bryant Park tonight! Go wrimos!

And if you couldn't make it out tonight, don't worry. There will be lots of other opportunities to come out and meet up with other wrimos and more importantly, write with and get encouragement from other wrimos in the coming weeks.

Yes, tonight was entertaining. I should've taken down some forum names. Hopefully, there will be alcohol at our next meet, as there were two of us there tonight who are faithful Vodka supporters.

I'm beginning to wonder if i shouldn't start a support group for people who are, despite their best intentions, doing NaNo without alcohol for the first time. Drunkenness is such an integral part of the NaNo experience. I'm not sure how i'll hit 50k words (or do i have to hit 100k, if i'm writing for two?) without letting beer write half of 'em...

It was fun!

I just went back to my NaNo2007 novel file and found one of the times I wrote while falling asleep (my weird writing habit), because of COURSE I saved them:

"now i am transferring out of it because of the stimluous of other people i really love the astor place stabucks evenr if i never love anyone jamie is hugging an orange a rodent a what kind of flowers conformishly. sams are fun. i like to eat clam chowder who is the guard on duty and then maybe i can wach people go in and out and in and out and cheery pinlal i do not know what any of this is and i do not have condoms and i think this might actually be cooler i am so close to everything and everyone and all of you. we have our meeting with her tonight and things i stopped thinking and only i think i am as beyond as i am going to get. i am not finishing sentences, but this is not about the sentence, it is about the story."

Nope, I don't know what "pinlal", either.

Writing for two?! :) Technically you would only be obligated to do the 50k, but if you wanted to do 100k, by all means feel free... And I guess if you can't do the beer, you need to find another vice. Livvy's baking, perhaps?

Livvy has made little secret of her intent to fatten me up with baked goods, and i've made little secret of my intent to be utterly complicit.
