Living out 45 south has its benefits; we've got one heck of a group of writers out here. For the past four years I've been going to write-ins organized by our co-ML SweetMelissa and they're always well attended and FUN! There's nothing better to spur you on in making that 50,000 word goal than the sounds of fingers typing.
This year Melissa and I are going to be spreading out the write-ins all over the area so you should be able to find one close to home and save some gas. We are also going to focus on organizing at locally owned businesses to support our local economy, but the big chains and local libraries are also going to feature in our picks.
If you have a suggestion for a write-in spot please PM it to either me or SweetMelissa and we'll find a good day for it to host a write-in.
Finally, if you're in the Southeast area (45 S outside the loop including League City, Friendswood, Webster, southern Pasadena and the Clear Lake area) post a shout-out in this thread and introduce yourself.

Hi , I'm Tambra and i'm in Pasadena. Live in the old part, but Panera Bread is about 15 or min.away and I go there a few times a month.
Hope to see and meet some of you at the Panera Bread on Fairmont and Beltway 8.
Best,

Hum...
Does that make the SE the most exciting or weirdest group since I'm there...
And would that change if I moved??

I'm going to reserve the "weirdest" and the "most exciting" labels for now - WriMos the world over are the most unique individuals I've ever met through any other organization or event I've ever been a part of and I'm very proud to call several of you my dear friends - whatever it is that gets you to 50,000 words!
But DON'T move, PataLeBon! We need you (and your weirdness) here in Clear Lake!

I'm not really SE Houston, but the Panera Bread off of Fairmont is the closest location for me, so I'll be seeing y'all there!! SO excited to start writing! :)

Panera off Fairmont is closest to me as well. But if we are looking for more local establishments I'm not sure who bought out the coffee shop on space center between Fairmont and Bay Area Blvd in the center with Cullens. It could well be a chain but it's not a Starbucks.
And their is a coffee shop I've never tried but that looks large on Clear Lake City blvd east of 3. And also Abe's Cajun Market at 3 and Clear Lake City Blvd which has awesome deserts and free wifi but might not welcome the Nano wrimoers but it may be worth checking out.

Hey ByBrandy ~
I think the Space Center Blvd coffee shop you're talking about is Coffee Haven. I've actually only been there once. They're set up kinda like a Starbucks with a cushie chair area and several tables - but they're local and cheaper. Also, I'm pretty sure they have computers available along the bar at the back but I didn't check them out - they might be those ones like in hotels where you can only check your e-mail but I'm not sure.
And I LOVE Abe's - we eat there all the time. Excellent Cajun food and great prices. I don't know if they would mind Wrimos or not. We'll see. I think the coffee ship you're thinking of on CLC Blvd is Coffee Oasis - they are a small chain with only 3 locations (2 that I know of and have been to). Coffee Oasis is locally owned and we LOVE supporting local businesses out here in Clear Lake. There's a much larger Coffee Oasis on Nasa Road 1 at the corner of the strip in the Arlan's parking lot with a back room where we've had several write-ins every year. In fact, I didn't even know about the Coffee Oasis there until NaNoWriMo 2005 when the AL for this area had a write-in there one night. I've been returning regularly ever since.
Keep the suggestions coming and Chris and I will plan write-ins for all the locations.
Thanks!

Went to Abe's for dinner Friday night. Seems like what used to be the Oasis coffee on Clear Lake Area BLVD is now Paradise Coffee Company.
Don't know the official policy on drinking and writing really fast but there is also Cork Wine Bar off Bay Area Blvd and 45 in the shopping center with the Borders/Fridays/Panera.

ByBrandy ~
Hey just this weekend we drove by the old Coffee Oasis and also noticed it was now a Paradise Coffee. I was going to tell you! LOL
Policy? on drinking and writing? um, no such policy exists. We are, after all, the Houston Lushes. I've actually been wanting to check out the Cork Wine Bar place. Do you know about their wifi situation? The Chelsea Coffeehouse and Wine Bar on Nasa Rd. 1 is also a GREAT place to write mainly because they're open until 2 am on the weekends and we can write and share a pitcher of good beer.
I'm so looking forward to NaNoWriMo this year!

The Coffee Oasis closed? Geez, I know where that is. I like that place, too.
Where is the Chelsea Coffeehoue and Wind Bar on Nasa 1? (I need landmarks.)
Night driving is iffy for me. I might be able to make it to one of these in Clear Lake. It sounds like so much fun.
I'm in the old part of Pasadena. I HATE 45 but I can drive Red Bluff and Highway 3.
Hugs,

Tambra,
First off, only the Coffee Oasis on Clear Lake City Blvd has closed and a new coffee shop, Coffee Paradise, is now open in that location. The Coffee Oasis on NASA 1 at Kirby is still open.
Chelsea Coffeehouse is located close to Coffee Oasis on NASA 1. It is located next door to Boondoggles on the east side of the Taylor Lake bridge on NASA 1. You can get there by taking Red Bluff to Kirby (right), then left on NASA 1. Turn left into the parking lot IMMEDIATELY after crossing the Taylor Lake bridge.

Thanks so much Chris!
I hope some of you will come to Panera Bread on Fairmont and Beltway 8! Let me know if any of you can come. The staff at this location is wonderful. I've had book signings there and they were very accomodating.
I'm so excited, I just bought an AlphaSmart Neo. I've wanted an AlphaSmart for a few years now. I mentioned NaNo and got $20 off. I had no idea about tha; it was a great surprise.

Hi All!
I did my first 50k in 2002 and while i've signed up AND written every year since then, i've not always made my goals. I've only written "alone" before.. with some online friends to spur me on, and then my daughters both decided to join too, so we had interfamily challenges. They are off in their own worlds now, (though still doing Nano!) and i have been in a major writing slump, so am going to be brave and try to get out of the house... it always sounds like you all have so much fun!
I'm in Clear Lake, close to El Dorado and Space Center, and can meet about any time. Looking forward to meeting new writing friends and getting back to words!

All ~ I figured out the problem with the Got Plot session at Chelsea Coffee & Wine Bar on Sunday - they don't open til 4PM. But they are open from 4Pm - 2AM Every day. So Saturday, November 1st I'm going to be at Chelsea Coffee & Wine Bar from 4PM til either 2PM or when I can't take it anymore or I've hit 10,000 words - which ever comes first. I'll be upstairs (hopefully). Hope to see you there!
Also, Sunday at the Freeman Branch Library from 1PM - 5PM. Please check out the Houston Information Page for details on write-ins near you.

I think I might be another point in the "weird" column, so uh...hi? :D
I live in Pasadena; Panera is definitely closest to me and I go there now and then anyway.
Barry's Burger Barn (also on Spencer) has free wi-fi, of all places. They also have good burgers and chili, and Ramune soda for those of you interested in such things.

Hey ya'll!
I'm Lisa and I live in League City right off of I-45 and Calder. I don't know how many write-ins I'll be able to get to because my job makes me sit in commuter traffic and by the time I get home, I'm wiped out, but count me into the Southeast group!
*whew!* I thought I was going to have to go to Pearland!! Eeek!
This is my first year back, I was in the Northern CA group WAAAAAAY back in... uhm... must've been 2001, though it could have been 2000. I can't remember exactly. I ususally work at the Ren Fest, but wasn't able to this year, so I decided to work with my ideas and write something up!
Here's a few HUGS for anyone who needs 'em!

Greetings-
I'm Michael. I live in Pasadena near SJC-Central. I work in Clear Lake (Go SPACE!)
This is my first year participating, though I have supported friends in the past.
I have a young daughter (14 months) so I don't know how often I will make it out.
I will most likely do most of my writing at the college library, since it is within walking distance.
I look forward to getting to know all of you.
Michael
