My husband is techincally the student at OSU, but I'm the novelist. ;) We live off campus, but I'm excited to be here and meet a bunch of new people. I've not been in the same city twice yet for Nanowrimo, so I'm new here too. Last year we were up in Everett, WA.

Well, I'm not here from OSU, but I live within walking distance and go to LBCC. I'm jumping into your thread because I want to meet people, too, and nobody else has really posted anything yet! We just moved here, and both my boyfriend and I will be participating this year. I've done it annually since 2005, but it's his first time. Still not sure what to write. *sweatdrop*

Hi, I am a staff member at OSU. This is also my first term as a part-time OSU student. This will be my second go-round in November and I'm really hoping that I can manage it. I had a hard enough time last year and I just had work to worry about!

I'm at OSU! We met a time or two at the Valley Library last year, and it was great fun. I hope we can do that again, and with more people. :D

I agree, we should hold write-ins on campus.

I graduated from OSU a couple years ago and I currently work there. So I would definitely be up for some write-ins at Valley Library.

It would probably be easiest if we had a weekly meeting time. Just to pick a time out of thin air, how does Tuesday evening around 7 or 8 sound?

I'm a student at OSU. My schedule is incredibly full but I would be game for a couple write ins on campus. Only my second year doing NaNoWriMo.

I could do Tuesdays at 7:30 every single week. You might as well start at 7, though. :)

I'm also an OSU student. I'd love to do some write-ins, but I go to gymnastics club on Tuesday evenings. Could we do it Wednesdays?

Any time after 7 on Wednesday works for me.

Since no one seems to been replying, I'll rephrase myself. How does 7pm on Wednesday evenings work for everyone? Also, how many should we have? I'm up to doing one every week, but it seems the Corvallis and Albany write-ins are happening twice each. What are your thoughts on frequency?

I like the idea of writing weekly.
How about something like this. The Old World Deli Write-ins are the Mondays of the 3th and 17th. What if, on those weeks, we did Tuesdays--the 4th and 18th--and then met on the in between Mondays too--the 10th and 24th? That way there'd always be something happening on Mondays, and always something on campus.
Katsuyo, does that work for you, or only Wednesdays?

I'm busy Mondays, and I'd like to be able to go to this every week if possible. That being said, Tuesday works for me, so if alternating between Monday and Tuesday is what works for everyone else, I'll be able to live without going every week.

Hi, I'm an OSU student , too. Current Liberal Arts Major, former Environmental Science Major; I'm still seeing where that'll take me. :D This is my first time posting; I'd love to know what the final verdict was for write-ins (and what is a write-in?) in Corvallis, as I work nearly full-time and go to school - I'll need to know when the dates are in order to clear it with my boss for the night off.

Oh, okay. Well, I have nothing actually /wrong/ with Wednesdays. X) It's just the only day I happen to not already be on campus in the evening. But shoot, if it works for everyone else I certainly /can/ be on campus! So let's shoot for that, since it sounds like the most popular option?
Oh, and Chrysanne: A write-in is when a bunch of NaNoers get together with our writing materials and write all together in the same place, inspired by the sound of each other's clickity-clicking keyboards. :) It's awesome.
By the way, if anyone doesn't have or doesn't want to bring their laptop, the Valley Library (where we're meeting) has several laptops that they'll lend to you for a few hours as long as you stay inside the library. I think you have to be a student, but it's pretty awesome. I finished last year's novel on one. :)
This coming week, I'll scout out an awesome place in the library for the meeting. I have a poster I want to hang up every time we come so everyone can see what we're doing.

Chrysanne:
Welcome!
There are write-ins scheduled on two mondays in Corvallis, at the Old World Deli on second street, and two on Wednesdays in Albany at the library near Fred Meyers. Sounds like there will also be some write-ins at Kerr Library when the campus contingent decides when to hold them.
A write-in is a scheduled time to write. Basically it's a way of supporting each other by showing up at the same place and plugging along on the keyboard. We have little mini-competitions if people are interested, "how many words in the next half-hour" kind of things, or just type. We limit social time to before and after, so we can all get our wordcount in.
It does require a laptop or a Neo; you can write by hand but that's kind of hard to verify at the end of the month. *wry smile*
This year I'd like to include the folks who don't have laptops. Anybody can write at home at the same time as the write-in, and send me a wordcount at the end. I'll include it in the wordcount I post for our evening total.
Can you come to the Kickoff gathering? It's Nov. 2.
There is a link to our calendar of events on the Albany-Corvallis forum page.

Hey, everyone! It's great to see that I'm not alone in Corvallis. I'd love to meet up with all of you at the write-ins in the near future. This will be my second year of doing NaNoWriMo, but my first year of actually being social with it. I'm hoping that my boyfriend will be joining our ranks as well, but I doubt it. He's a lazy man. xD
I'm a current student at OSU (Sophomore level) and am studying Computer Science. I'm dropping CS for English next year though (I would do it this year, but the scholarship the college of engineering gave me is ensuring that I can actually afford school for now x.x). I can't stand all the math and such the former continually throws at me, and I've always loved writing. I don't know what I'll do with the degree yet, but whatever it is should be fun, right?
Has the write-in time been decided yet? Any of the times suggested so far should be all right with my schedule, just as long as I stay on top of my massive amounts of homework. Physics and matrix math are not fun.

I am delighted to hear your story, because I started out as a CS student and switched to English when I was a sophomore, too. :D You will not regret it!! English is so awesome!!
