Last year I asked if anyone was at Simmons, but are there other Colleges of the Fenway students here?
(There must be, right?)
If so, do we want to arrange write-ins at one/all of the schools sometime during the month?

Yep! I'm at Wheelock and VERY interested in potentially meeting up with COFers to write/chill/be inspired etc. I only ever wrimo'ed with others at the official write ins, with the exception of that time a few of us showed up at the Ben and Jerry's Write-In and got so frustrated with the space we peaced out and had a bookstore party.
Yes, I ramble. Forgive me.
Anyway, I would LOVE to do something either at Simmons,Wheelock, or somewhere fun around the Fenway. My roommates are crazier and louder this year, so I'm afraid I won't be able to get as much done as I did when I lived with the girl who demanded that we designate quiet hours and played Gregorian Monks all afternoon. True story.
So -- yes please!

Not quite COF-ers, but there will be a crew of people doing NaNo from Boston Latin School (the giant hs right in the middle of you guys). Some of us might be able to do write-ins, assuming you wouldn't mind some wacko high school kids joining in.

My roommate went to Latin, actually, so not only do I know where it is, but I've heard quite a bit about it! I'm planning on writing a bit of YA this time around, so having current high school students around for reference might not be a bad thing! If it's up to me, you're certainly welcome to hang out if we do anything in the area! I'm just excited anyone is actually interested!

Maybe we should arrange some library write-ins? (Simmons has nice group study rooms, but there's only enough space for six people in each room.)

Hi guys! You're all right in my neighborhood! And, I'm a sort of recent grad of Simmons, and used to work at the Wheelock library, so I know both places pretty well. I would love to get together for other write-ins. I've got a list of places I like to write at which, unfortunately, don't work for official write-ins. I'll include them and you can determine what's best. lol. Here goes:
Simmons Main College Building (MCB) has awesome couches with tons of plugs and free wifi if you're a student. Wait.. did I mention the really good chocolate chunk muffins that are ginormous? (Sorry, don't know how to spell that, but it's appropriate... yes?) So, good location with small coffee shop and regular dinning too.
Wheelock library has a small-ish meeting room. Pretty good location, though food isn't really allowed up there. It might be possible to reserve the room, if you're a student or currently work there. If someone does this, you can ask about the food policy.
Fresh City at Landmark Center is good too. But they don't have plugs... well, I take that back. They have one, in a not-so-good spot. So take that as you will.
I know a few people mentioned B.Good, the really awesome burger place over in Coply Square, but we've actually got it down for two official events, if that sways opinions. Otherwise, go for it!
Trident Bookstore... really awesome atmosphere. The problems... there are no plugs, and the food is expensive. But trust me on this one... the Spiced Hot Apple Cider is just .... there are no words... it's got cinnamon and an orange in it! Really good! I would love to go to Trident a lot, just for the atmosphere and the cider. Just make sure you've got pen and paper or your battery is charged well.
And, I know someone mentioned Coolidge Corner places... not sure this, or the last two apply for COF area, but there's a Panera Bread in Coolidge Corner that makes a really good Chicken Ceaser sandwich. We would just have to go at a non-busy time. Ex. NOT during lunch or dinner hours. They get cramped, no tables, and don't want you there over one hour. But other times it should be fine.
So, how's that for a list? I went a little nuts huh? Sorry, I think it's cause I'm hungry, and I'm thinking about all this good food, and I really want to get working on my plot. Speaking of plots... this is way beyond the bounds of Wrimo, kinda, but if anyone wants to do some note-taking or novel plotting together before the big event, to sort of get things in order so you know what you're doing on the first of November, do let me know. I'd love to seek some feedback from people on my own plot.
Of course anyone in HS can come. We'd love to have you!
Now that I've rambled on for way too long and you're all yelling at me to shut up already... I'm gonna go eat dinner.
btw... just cause I'm co-ML, doesn't mean we have to go to these places. If I happen to be going somewhere to write, I might post to see if anyone wants to join me. Otherwise, the floor is yours to organize and gather. I offer only suggestions and the possibility of joining you.
I'm super excited already! Can't you tell?!

I'm 99% sure food is allowed in the Wheelock library - I have study group there every week right after lunch and when I'm running late I've taken food in. Nobody's ever said anything to me. It's a pretty liberal place - they hold drawing classes in there, too - I'm sure if they can deal with charcoal they can deal with crumbs. There's also free Wifi for everyone in the library now.
Also, there's a brand new Panera Bread in the landmark center which opened up very recently - right next to Dick Blicks and the Movie Theatre. A girl on my floor works there and she said it's a GREAT place to write - I haven't been in there myself for writing purposes, but it's a nice place. There's lunchy foods, dessert foods, coffee/tea/etc... it's pretty snazzy.

I hadn't even thought of the College Center (which is the chill places with the couches and delicious muffins at Simmons that Anna was talking about)! That'd be a great place to get together.
Also, I second Panera Bread as it is delicious and comfortable, if a little loud for a write-in.

Yeah I mentioned Coolidge Corner. That is the biggest Panera I have ever walked into, and no matter when I go it is always difficult to get a table. Be sure to mention if you go to work out some pre-writing, that sounds like a good idea.

Oh, don't you know it Pam! I just happened by that Panera today, and was planning on mentioning it here, but... never mind... It's a lot smaller than the one in Coolidge Corner, but it's a lot closer. I'm all for it. I think it's even cozier with good writer vibes than Fresh City. But that's just me.
Unfortunately, I can't make it to the 13th event... sucks having to work early the following day. But anyhow, my Sunday's are virtually free, so I think I might hit up either that Panera or Trident a couple of times before November. If anyone likes the idea of spending an afternoon at a nice place organizing/plotting for a few hours, at either of these locations, or the others, let me know, and maybe we can work something out. I don't care which Sunday, and if people want to do all of them, that's cool with me too.
And, for those who care, I'm just working off of index cards that are color coded in a little blue box. Very handy, means no plug needed before November first!
Also, for those interested, I picked up the awesomest of awesome tools every writer needs to have. It's a book called "Plot and Structure: Techniques and exercises for crafting a plot that grips readers from start to finish" by James Scott Bell. This book, alone, was gripping, a quick, easy read, and always had me thinking about my novel. I found it at the Booksmith in Coolidge Corner, so they might still have a few copies left. Or I'm sure you can order it. I also just got its companion book "Characters, Emotion, and Viewpoint: Techniques and exercises for crafting dynamic characters and effective viewpoints" by Nancy Kress. So far it's really good, though I've only just started that one. Just thought I'd mention these even though it's a bit off topic. They're awesome, I can't help it.

Anna - having a day to work on Pre-Writing stuff would be AMAZING. I keep meaning to get down to business and make myself something like an outline, or a list, or... ANYTHING, really, just so I don't enter November floundering around like I'm drowning in the absence of literary splendor. Just let me know where you'll be and I'll try and make it there. I'm a pretty busy lady, especially during the week, so having some time to escape and work on one thing for myself before it's actually November would be BEAUTIFUL. I love Trident and I'd love an excuse to check out the new Panera, so I'm cool with anything! Keep me posted!
AND... [edited to say] I think I've convinced my friend/RA/roommate's former roommate/sister in insanity to participate this year! If she really does it, that's one more person for the COF/ Fenway area party! She's a super nice girl and probably crazier than I am, so yeah - yay for more write-ins turned dance parties!

Sweet! I'm glad you want to gather. Amazingly, today, the Character book I'm reading sorta gave me my ending, which means I think my biggest plot problem/character relationship issue has been solved. But, I'd still love to gather, as there's always lots more plotting and organizing to do. So, to set a date, how about this coming Sunday 1pm, at the Panera at Landmark? If this works for people, let me know, and I'll get it added to the google calendar, and then I'll be sure to show up.

I can do Saturday as long as it's sometime in either the early afternoon or very late afternoon. I'm a peer tutor and the midterm for the course I'm tutoring is at the beginning of next week, so I'm holding a study session at 3 PM. I don't necessarily anticipate it being longer than an hour, but I have no idea who is planning on showing up, how much prep they've done in anticipation of the exam, or what learning styles/disabilities are going to force me to have to compose and act out a three act musical in order to help them comprehend the material. It could be thirty minutes, it could be two hours. Before 3, however, I can try and make it! Let me know if anyone else is interested in Saturday!

Alright, Saturday it is! My afternoon just got freed up, so we're good to go. 1pm Panera at Landmark. I'll try to remember to bring a plug strip, in case we need one. I don't know what the outlet situation will be like. And, for those going who haven't seen me, I'll be the one with the shiny blue index card box and the really bad haircut. I don't need my laptop now, or I'd just say find the silver laptop with all the wrimo and edmo stickers on it. Ah well. Anyway, I'm planning on being there at least for a few hours, so even if you can't make it right at 1pm, come anyway, I'll probably still be there. See you there!
EDIT: I can go as early as 12pm, so if that works better for you guys, we can do that. In fact, that'll be a little easier on me, I think. So, make it 12 pm. Savvy? Savvy.

Okay, so...
I walked in and it smelled like SOUP (which is different than regular soup, lowercase, because it is overpowering and makes a person sick and it's just TOO HOT for the whole room to smell like SOUP). And it was crowded, and having just come from an unfamiliar dining hall across the way, it stressed me out. And I was already feeling about ready to plotz/puke/die for unrelated reasons... So I took a spin around the entire place. I know what Anna looks like, and I know what index cards look like, and I did not notice either of them. So I turned on my heel and left. I KNOW I couldn't have gotten anything done in there. There were too many people, and too much SOUP, and not enough familiarity. Do not want.
So yes... if anyone logs on and happens to be looking for me (for whatever reason), or if you're online at Panera and don't love it there, either, I'm on the Wheelock Alumni Patio breathing real, non-soup air and getting stuff done in relative privacy. It's right off of Pilgrim Road, across the street from the Simmons residence halls.

Oh Aly, I feel so bad! We were there. There were two of us sitting upstairs at the large table. I'm so sorry we missed you. but don't feel too bad, you probably got more work done then we did, though we did have a good time. If you, or anyone else of course, want to try this again sometime, maybe next weekend, I'm up for it. I found Panera to be ok, but of course we can always go to a different place. Even Subway if you want. I love Subway too much. The only place I wouldn't suggest is McDonald's cause they keep the AC on way too high for my liking, and I can't work if I'm too cold. But they have the best fries....
I organized the one for this weekend, if anyone wants to do this again, pick a time and a place and set something up. I'll try to make it if I can. Otherwise, I'll see you at the Meet and Greet!

Oh, I did get quite a bit done! Perhaps not as much as I anticipated, but the day is young! In an ironic turn of events, my roommate was also planning to spend the morning out on the alumni patio, so I had VERY good company! Also ironically, she asked me if I had any use for a large quantity of index cards, so you're going to have to explain this index card system to me because it's intriguing! I'd love to start a story box!
Subway is a LOT more chill, even if it smells like Subway - not like *a* subway, but it does have a sort of vaguely nauseating onion-esque stench that reminds me of nothing else in the world. I'm a lot harder to please when I'm already not feeling well. I don't know why I'm an idiot and didn't anticipate the fact that Panera would be packed at noon on a holiday weekend... or that they serve SOUP... but since I suggested it, I blame me. Subway would certainly be nicer. And more familiar. And there is less soup and more table space and they like us in there... even if the music is, erm, questionable. But danceable! (Though, I must admit, the top 40 hits as of late have been making me want to gouge my eyes out kind of violently).
I thought I would be able to make it to the meet and greet 100%, no questions asked, for sure, no problemo - but my parents are all like "SURPRISE WE'RE COMING TO VISIT LOL LETS PRETEND ITS A GOOD THING!!!!111one" so we'll see about THAT.
So I'll check out my schedule and see what's going on. I'll try not to be nauseous and easily flabbergasted that day, but I can't make any promises ;)

I'm glad things turned out ok for you! And I'd be very happy to show you my system. It's very simple, really.
As for getting together next weekend, we don't even have to do Subway. I just picked it cause I know you've been there before. If you'd rather do Trident, that's cool too, or any other place you've got in mind in the area. The Wheelock Library is a nice place with their conference room, which I mentioned earlier. But whatever, I'll let you pick the day, time, and place. Just let me know early enough so I can put it on the Google calendar. Hey all! I'm @ Northeastern, which may or may not officially be COF (is there an actual list?), but either way it's close enough. I'd definitely be interested in a plotting party this weekend-sunday? (I'm working part of the day sat) I have NO inspiration for this novel...granted, I haven't spent much time thinking about it, but all I've thought of is branching out of my regular fantasy genre- I really want to give YA a try, but I'm not sure how well that'd go. And I haven't written anything creative since the brief attempt at last year's nano. Which was a joke.
As far as write in locations, the Curry Student Center at Northeastern's actually really nice. They just redid it, and now there are all these cozy little booths.
