Hey everyone, we need your help coming up with an awesome, shame-all-other-regions slogan to describe the South Bay. Currently, when the regional forums are listed, our description header reads:

United States :: California :: South Bay
Silicon Valley writes code -- and novels, too!

But we know you guys can come up with something better than that. So we're going to have a contest. The winner gets his or her slogan published...under our region name!

So what phrase best captures the essence of the South Bay? Let us know here!

"We got Google - nyah nyah."

"50,000 words: huge STEAMING pile of crap. Little nuggets of corn."

"South Bay writers do it all month long."

"The South Bay - Where Fantasy becomes Reality. (And Mystery, and SciFi, and Romance and...)"

Anagrams:
South Bay - Busy Oath
South Bay - Busty Ho
The South Bay Area - A Breath Heats You
The South Bay Area - Beauty Hath A Rose
The South Bay Area - Ahoy! A Theatre Bus!

Okay, I'm done.

How about "The South Bay - Where Writting is Are Pasion"?

OK, maybe not...

Perhaps:
"The South Bay - We put the nano in NaNoWriMo"
"The South Bay - Computer Code Isn't the Only Thing We Write"

I like "we put the nano in NaNoWriMo"

Or how 'bout: The South Bay: mad skills in novels and code

Although I wouldn't know a line of code from...okay I know so little about code, I have nothing to compare it to.

I like this one best. *grin* It's been 8 years, I think, that we've been killing Cliff. I know we did it in 2001.

cliff is a real person. He used to nano and during one of the write ins he killed one of the authors, and that author fired back I am gonna kill you in my novel.

every year since then we have found many ways to either kill him or mention him in the novel in some form.

I ahve killed him 3 times so far. LOTS of fun

and he does not seem to mind at all

How about...

"-I can has novel fodder?"

I like killing Cliff Brooks for 8 years and counting... Or that we put the nano in NaNo.... both good.

Some silly ones...

or for windy... "Speak to us before screwing with your OS during Nano..."

or "You expect tech support during November? Is this a Joke?"

"Helping you procrastinate since 1982..." (or whenever Jobbs and wozniac invented the PC...)

WHO invented the PC? The story of the Mac was that Jobs and Wozniac stole a design from Xerox and claimed they had invented it.

The year was 1984, I believe, and they made big hype about the book '1984' and how IBM was "big brother."

Personal computers were around WAY before the Mac. Depending on how you define them, long before. I used a machine back in the '70's called the Datapoint 2200, which was arguably one of the first personal computers. IBM had several models, including one with an APL interpreter. (and a VERY tiny screen!) I forget the model #, but it was a precursor of the original IBM PC. Then of course, there was the commodore & friends, about the same time.

There were lots of homemade personal computers around, but none of them had keyboards or screens (just front panel lights and toggle switches) so not quite what you might call user friendly.

BTW, nice to hear from you.

XD I love how much I get made fun of in this region. We just don't have this in Missouri.

I do like the nano in Nanowrimo. That's clever.

And for the record: although I was sorely tempted today to mess with my OS after playing with a buddy's new configuration, I did decide to hold off until after Nano. Or at least until I get home and have access to that last hard drive that I left behind... Just not enough space on my anime drives to back up everything!

...it's a sickness, I know.

This slogan increases my word count by 9 words.

Well, that would technically not be true until November. How about:

This slogan could potentially increase my word count by eleven words.

Hm...... I sense the potential for achieving heights of stellar magniloquence....

There is a distinct possibility that, used correctly, the current slogan of which I speak and which I am currently speaking, or rather, writing, could stand to potentially raise the distinct possibility, including ninjas, of incrementing my word count by forty two words....

Better, but still needs giant lizards or interdimensional doorways or something. I'll keep working on it.

I killed him five times in last year's novel.

This year I think I'll give him a break, and just give him some political humiiation as my senator forced to resign in disgrace.
(Maybe poor Cliff would prefer death....)

Sorry for the long delay in announcing the winner of the slogan contest. Ian and I got caught up in organizing other stuff.

"We put the nano in NaNoWriMo" looks like the popular choice, so it's our new slogan for the South Bay! You can now see this slogan in use wherever regional forums are listed. Such as your My Regions page.

Congratulations and thanks to UrCardiac for coming up with the winning slogan! As your fabulous prize, you get... another ninja! (Okay, it's not much, but it's something.) See Ian or me at a write-in to collect your prize.
