I'm in this year! Time will tell whether I make it past 2,500 words and break my record for all the previous yeas I've made the attempt.

Do we have a regional coordinator person yet? When do we get together and eat snacks and complain about how badly our characters are treating us?

This is my first time trying this, so I don't know any of the traditions. I haven't seen an ML yet, so no clue when or if there will be any get togethers. I was hoping by starting something here in this thread, that maybe an ML or RC would magically appear. We have time yet to see what happens but that doesn't mean that we can't show each other support!

Happy writing!

I'm here! I floated between Nashville and the 'Boro last year, but since I'm taking classes at MTSU this year, I'm aiming to mainly stick to the 'Boro this year. Hopefully this November will go better than last year (no siblings having car accidents in the middle of the month, for starters...)

I used to be in the Nashville group but I'm in the M'boro group this year due to being at MTSU! I'm excited, this is my third year, hopefully I'll win again this year. I won 1st year, got halfway through before life overwhelmed me last year and hopefully I'll finish this year. The first year I went in with a little bit of plotting and characters, the second I knew exactly 5 hours before NaNoWriMo what I was doing and this year I've spent the last two months doing serious plotting and structuring everything out. Hmm, we'll see how I do this year.

Hello all! This is my 4th NaNo, but my first in the 'boro. I was away at school in Indiana the last three years. My first two attempts didn't go so well then I won with the third. I don't have any plot ideas just yet, but there's still time :)

I'm seriously looking forward to getting together and eating snacks and complaining. Haha, this will be my second year and I am currently at MTSU.

I'm in this year too, this will be the fourth year I've made the attempt but the first year in the Murfreesboro arena. Haven't the foggiest idea what I'm going to be writing about though. Well... no, that's not true, in fact I have a couple ideas of what I might write about, but I've not decided what to go with. I may just wait until Nov. 1 and see which idea pushes its way out first. :)

To the best of my knowledge (and I've been investigating) we do *not* have an ML this year. Last year's ML, Rainne, is taking a year off for school/work reasons.

I believe that ML sign-ups were closed a week or two ago. (I just nano-mailed Erin, the coordinator, to see if that's true or not.)

There are certainly parts of the process I'd be happy to do - the only thing I'd have any trouble with would probably be helping with email questions in a very timely fashion as I don't have access to the web at home - only at friends' houses and the library and such.

I'm here as well, new to the 'boro. I need lots of encouragement, haven't finished one yet, though I've tried off and on several times. I have no idea what I'm writing yet. I have some ideas though. Good luck all.

Since my three wins at the beginning of the decade, I've had little success. I've just not been able to come up with a project that I had much real interest in close enough to November to save for NaNo. This year, the timing is right for a change. I've gotten an assignment to do a serialized yarn for a small press publisher that would be ideal for NaNo. It won't make any difference if I haven't reached the end at 50,000 words, because this thing will go on as long as the buying public (and the publisher) will support it - which is the same way Charles Dickens started out. I'll get paid per installment regardless of how many issues it takes to publish the whole thing, so the longer it is, the better for me. I have a sneaking suspicion 50,000 words will just get the tale rolling good. :{)

That's awesome! :) Congrats.

How on earth does one go about getting a job like that? It's just cool!

Thanks! I just sort of fell into it. During my usual online networking with various other writer types, somehow (I don't even recall how exactly) I came into contact with the publisher and got an invite to join his semi-private Yahoo group. After a while, he sent out a submission call for the second issue of one of his magazines, Dark Corridor, for which I had a tale in inventory I thought might fit. He accepted it, paid me promptly (!), and the issue just came out with my story, 'Plastic Jesus', prominently displayed. He's also accepted a story for the third issue.

While having our usual discussion in the group, we started bouncing around ideas for a graphic novel utilizing a couple of public domain characters, a la League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I suggested a plot that involved using my own character, a vampire who makes frequent and prominent appearances in my stories, and was in fact a major player in my first NaNovel in 2001, Dead Women in Love. The plot was accepted and I was given the opportunity to write it. Before I could do much more than some basic research and outlining, however, the publisher realized his artists were already overloaded with other projects and a 120 page graphic novel was just not feasible at the moment. He asked me to do it as a serial instead, to be published in 3000 word chunks in Dark Corridor, beginning with the fourth issue.

The short version of the answer to your question is to network, network, network, look out for opportunities that suit your style of writing and pounce on them when they pop up. :{)

First to Otter

Congratulations! I'm still looking for my first writing deal, who knows maybe all of us are. I've met a few published authors here and I think it's great to get paid to do something that you love to do anyway!

Now to everyone else! Thanks for stopping by and getting the murfreesboro region going. It's good to know that though this is my first year that they are a lot of experienced Nano'ers here. Good Luck to everyone and

Happy Writing!

This is sort of an old thread, but I'm new to the region, so I thought I'd contribute. :)

This is my first year, and I've sort of decided last minute that I'll have a lot of free time this month. I'm sort of really nervous, haha. I don't even have a plot yet, just a few swirls of ideas.

I'm in Antioch, working in Nashville and taking classes at MTSU -- so I figure I'll hit up some boro meetings. It's my first NaNo and I'm going strong, woo!

This is my 5th year, and I've always been in the 'boro. My first attempt made it to 30,000 and then I became overwhelmed with school. Nothing has surpassed that yet, but this year I will win.. I must!
