I finished last year with barely over the 50,000 mark but I really want something more substantial to have bound this year. I'm hoping for 85,000-90,000. Anyone else want to join me in going for a little more this year?

Count me in. For the past 4 years I've just made my 50,000 words. I want more, I need more, and I think I'm going to need the insane cheerleader screaming in my ear after the first week. "STOP PLAYING POGO AND GET BACK TO WRITING!"

Count me in! I'm aiming for 75K to 100K myself. Two of my last NaNos combined to get 100K, and I learned a trick last year (why I didn't learn it before then, I don't know, but maybe because it was the first time I got to make a write-in -- even if it was the all-nighter ;) I'm hoping to use that to be able to push my word count faster.
The trick? The 15 minute clock! :D By typing as much as I could for 15 minutes, resting for 5, and then repeating, I was able to get the 1667+ daily word count needed in about 1 1/2 hours.
In write ins, this 15 minute clock is great for racing challenges :D
I'd love to do a 150K to 200K eventually, but I'll build up to that ;) For now, 75K to 100K is a perfect goal for me.
See you at the finish line (however you define that for you)!

Grady, That is a great trick. I'll have to use that this year. I've gotten the 50,000 every year and I'm pushing for the 70-100,000 myself this year.
Here's to that lofty goal! WooHoo!

Yep, I'll be trying to finish another complete novel, this time around. I finished an 81,000-word Western, last year, in 27 days. I'd like to at least hit that, again, this year. NaNo-07 spurred me into non-stop writing, which has not let up, yet! I've serialized two more Westerns and several short stories on my website, so it should be easy to finish more than 50k, this time. That is, if my life doesn't go nuts, at just the wrong time! I hope I haven't jinxed myself, now. (O.o)
Good luck to you all! (^-^)

I'm doing the Young Writers Program with the kids at school, so I have a profile on that site as well... I feel it would be "cheating" to post my word count on both sites, but I know I can't write TWO 50,000-word novels in a month. The YWP site allows you to set your own word-count goal, so I've compromised: I'll write a 25,000-word novel on the YWP site, in addition to my "real" NaNo on this site.
However, in order to "justify" the lower word-count goal... I'm writing the YWP novel IN FRENCH.
Should be interesting!!!
Anyone else writing in a second language?

My French is rusty too! This is why I'm worried!!!
Even though I have not studied French since college, I did pass the (written) certification exam ths summer. I'm pretty confident I could teach a first-year Fr class, but I'd be hesitant to take on a higher level at the moment. I need to pass the oral proficiency exam, so I figure writing, NaNo-style, is going to be prefect practice/prep for the oral exam. I feel good about my pronunciation, but I need to work on thinking in French and recalling the vocab I need for the stuff I want to say.

Last year, I managed to finish my novel at EXACTLY 50,000 words. I was pretty intensely proud of that.
This year, to up the challenge for myself, I am plotting. My first two years of NaNo, I plotted and I failed miserably because I had such high expectations for my Very Important Plots. The last three years, I jumped in unprepared and won fantastically. Now, I'm determined to beat this "plotting" thing that defeated me all those years ago. It's a little bit scary, because I'll have so much less room for "vamping", but I'm determined.

Okay, I'm in. I'm a fool, but I'm in. I'm shooting for 75,000 and hopefully an end to at least one story arc on "Tangled Skein."
Last year I managed to win with 52,000, so I'm hopeful (especially since I didn't start until mid-month).

I'm really pumped for this. Not so much for the competitive nature, but for the challenge to myself. I've been wanting to write my story for 5 years now; contemplated NaNo last year, but didn't think I had the chutzpah. I'm SO proud of myself for the amount of words I've put down so far. Last night, the words just poured, and the chapter turned out much better than I planned, and not how I originally envisioned. I have SO many more ideas in my head for this.
I'm positive I'll go way over the 50,000. I'm hoping I do. publiushjm, I was hoping for 75,000, But I like your 80,000. I'm with ya!!

I'll probably reach the 50,000 mark the end of this month, but I rarely write anything under 90,000. I usually have to force myself to write 1000 word short stories that end up at around 1100.

I originally said that I'd never try for more than 50k in a month, because that was enough of a struggle for me in '06. But looking at my current word count, it seems that my subconscious has committed to making 100k by the 31st. I'm on track for it too, as long as my morale doesn't crash and burn.

The 31st of November, that would be the day also known as December 1st, right? ;)
I hear you though, my projected word count at the pace I'm going is somewhere around 88-90,000 words. I'm almost to 22,000 now, and I've never put out that many words in so few days. My first year in 05 I did 22,000 in about 19 days, and lost - I started writing late around the 5th or 6th. Nano 06 I gave up on my story after 5000 or so words, it just felt forced and I wasn't happy with it at all. I won in 07, but I didn't make my real writing charge until the 17th - I had 15,224 words total when writing on Nov 16th was over.
I intend to make my 50K, blast past that, finish the story before the 30th (for a change- last year's Nano still isn't finished!) and then if any of the month is left over, I'm going to work on finishing last year's NaNo. Gee, I wonder if I can throw that into this year's word count too? :D

I'm game. My novel needs to be 90k to 100k. I figured 3226 words a day, and I got my 100k. Though, so far my chapters have been a lot shorter than I usually write. I'll probably have to flesh out, with a major rewrite when I'm done.
So my novel, Primary Urges, is shooting for 100k in 30 days.
Last November I wrote a 125k novel in 20 days, but not part of NaNo.

So I'm about halfway to my word count goal for the day, and if it keeps up at this pace, my projected finish point (according to the report card) is around 106k by the 30th.
As of today, I have written more words in seven days than I wrote in 29 days in '06. I'm feeling pretty good about this, all things considered.
