I have one that got me to write my first book, Dana Stabenow. She's an Alaskan writer, where I use to live. My other is Nicholas Sparks and that is because I am Eastern North Carolina and I love that he writes about that area.

So how many like to read novels that are set in our own towns? I'm one, and my NaNovel is set in Chattanooga.
So how many are writing novels set in your town? How many are using your town, but giving it a fictional name?

I was inspired by Diana Gabaldon after reading her Outlander series. She is a big presence in the CompuServe Writers' Forum. She is marvelous at opening up the bare bones of her work to show the entire process of building a character, situation, scene, completed work. Plus her characters and novels will make you cheer and then rip your heart out!

Although I wasn't really sure where my inspiration was coming from, let alone who may be responsible for any of it, I've started to develop a vague understanding of a few things. These are them:
1) My novel is going where it wants to go, whether I'm cool with that or not (I am, though, so that's good).
2) Jonathan Carroll's novel White Apples has completely inspired me to take philosophy and various nerdy elements out of the abstract world and into the real. Yummmmm.
3) Everything is set in Albuquerque, NM (where I'm from) and I am trying to intertwine as much of the plot line into the cultural setting of New Mexico, kind of like Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. This is only a secondary goal, though, as I am completely fine just making sure that everything I write about my city is accurate and not necessarily a major element of the text. Does that make sense? I'm thinking too fast right now to comprehend anything I'm typing. Time to get back to noveling, me thinks!
Yay for NaNoWriMo!
