Kick Off and Write In Dates

Just wanted to throw these out there so everyone had a chance to plan a bit. There's still a slight chance for a change of dates, but here's what it looks like we'll have for a write-in and kick-off schedule!

Ok, so on the first day of nano, I have cleaned the kitchen, livingroom, and laundry room, replaced the screens on two windows, finished a book and started a new one, did 3 loads of laundry, and cooked 2 meals.

I still haven't written anything on my novel.

Maybe nano needs to kick off every saturday...

Create A Character

Last year at the kick-off I had people supply me with one word that I would use in my novel. This year, I'm not sure how it happened, but at the kick-off we ended up determining that I should have people help me create characters for my novel. Definitely not the traditional way to create a novel, but so far it's been interesting and has inspired some potential plot ideas.

Anyway, I thought I would open the character creation up to everyone on the forum as well. I'll keep accepting characters for my novel until Friday evening at 5 PM. Remember, if you create it - I'm OBLIGATED to put them in my novel somewhere, somehow.

The only request I have is to try to make your characters fit into the basics - my novel this year is likely going to be chick-lit, and will be set in Chicago. Other than that, I have no limitations! Do try to keep your number of characters created for me to a max of 3, though you're welcome to make more than that if you'd like!

Anyone is welcome to snag a character idea from the list - it's purely for fun.

Get-togethers for Pre-Nano Planning work?

Hi all,

Anyone interested in one or two pre-Nano work-and-encouragement sessions? Here's my suggestion:

Last year some of our write ins were at Roasters which I think might just be the nicest coffee shop anywhere. Certainly they have totally awesome hot chocolate. Anyway my husband and I are planning to be at Roasters tomorrow noon-ish. There was food next door last time we were there and also Tomaso's pizza is in the same strip so we figured to eat lunch, drink something great, and do some plotting, character sketching, playlist building - whatever we needed to do, out of the house so we won't be distracted by dogs or chores.

If anyone is free and bored, stop by and get some work done yourself! We might try to go next Saturday, the 25th, as well. Or suggest another time and place. I'm not trying to do our dear M/L's job, she is more than welcome to it :)

All new this year - we have our own forum! *excited*

We're still ironing out the details, times, locations, etc of this years events, more info will be coming as soon as it's available.

One thing I can tell you is that I do still have the Barnes and Noble gift cards that need to be given out to participants from last year. Odds are we'll pass those out at the kick off party.

If anyone has any further ideas in the meantime - feel free to contact me via nanomail, email or a reply to this post!
