Thank God It's Over Party THIS WEEKEND!!!

Hey, y'all! November's already over, and it's time to celebrate our triumphs, toast to our valiant attempts, and otherwise just use it as an excuse to party. Whether you are thanking God it's all over, already missing it, or plotting your grand conquests next year, come and join us for our Thank God It's Over Party on December 14th from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Everyone is welcome, whether you were triumphant this year, have hopes for next year, or haven't taken the plunge yet, but you're thinking seriously about next year now. The lovely and talented Julie has opened her home to us, and we're going to be having a potluck dinner. Bring along an appetizer, side dish, salad, or dessert and join us for a celebration.

If you would like the address for the party, just email me at thedeadlypen@gmail.com, send a NaNo mail to KamikazeCricket, Y!M SamiraSashenka, IM KamikazeKricket, or call me at 816-3133.

Please Check your Home Region Settings

According to my research, sixty two of the people in the Oklahoma CIty area are 2008 NaNoWriMo Winners - but only ten of ya'll set Oklahoma CIty as your home region. I know 32 of the winners, and so I know you're local. The other 30 winners may be just far enough outside the Oklahoma City area to qualify as Oklahoma: Elsewhere, but I don't know because I haven't met you, either by posting on the forum or by coming to one of our Meet-ups.

If you set Oklahoma: Oklahoma City as your Home Region, then y'all get counted in things like NaNoWriMo swag distributions and word count tallies and - for this year - for the $1.00 per winner donation challenge.

Please take a moment to check your home region settings, and then tell us you won in the "Turn Your Purple into a Triple Donation" Thread here. so your win can be counted as part of the donation we'll be making to NaNoWriMo on behalf of the Oklahoma: Oklahoma City Region.
To the Borders Crowd

Hey to all you NaNo-ers who hang out at the NW Borders and who so graciously let me join you when I was down there for one Wednesday night (from my home in Colorado). Thanks again for sharing the stickers and the inner-editor-eaters. I just posted my winning word count. Woohoo! I still have one scene to go in the overall story arc, but I already wrote the final scene so there's still a feeling of closure.

I hope you all got there, and those that didn't keep going. Best wishes, and thanks again for being part of my first NaNo experiece.

Y'all, We Have A Mission...

You guys, NaNoWriMo needs us.

This year's donations have not yet totaled enough to pay for this year's expenses, let alone launching next year, and even though it's not even November 30th yet, I'm already looking forward to next year.

I totally get that no one has money right now. The economy blows and times have gotten tight for everyone. On top of that, Christmas is creeping up right around the corner, and I know that usually sucks all the spare change right out of me.

The thing is, you don't have to make a big donation. If every person wishing they had enough money to make a big donation would just pitch in a small one, what we could all do together would be tremendous.

If you've had fun this year, consider tossing $10 into the hat. If you won, or if you didn't this year, but you're looking forward to giving it your best shot next year, do something small to help make sure NaNo can make it this year. I know that in years past, it's happened only because some of the remarkable people in the Office of Letters and Light have taken out personal loans to make ends meet, and I'd hate to see any of them have to do that again. I've dropped my money in the hat, and I've signed up on LJ for their dollar donation per winner (er...and I'm really hoping for a last minute win so that dollar goes in). And if you donate, you get the super-spiffy halo by your name, and you get to be listed on the NaNoWriMo Is Brought To You By page.

It would totally rock my world to see OKC with a high percentage of donors.

You can also take a stroll through the store...now that I take another look, I'm kind of eying that spiffy travel mug...
Final Stats

There are 149 people affiliated with the Oklahoma: Oklahoma City region, but only 39 made it their Home Region.

We ranked 208, with 1,558,674 total words, averaging 25,139 words per person. If we reckon it out, that means 62 people contributed to the word count in our Region, and 87 didn't register a single word. I know about 50 of the 149 people in our Region, and if I remembered all y'all's NaNo Names right, 32 of those 50 people won NaNoWriMo.

There were a total of 62 winners in the Oklahoma: Oklahoma City and Oklahoma: Elsewhere regions combined, with a total of 751 people affiliated between the two regions. I'm pretty sure over half those winners came from the Oklahoma City area.

However, since only 39 of the people affiliating with Oklahoma listed Oklahoma City as their Home Region, we actually only show 10 winners. That makes it look as if 25% of us won - a nice number, but not really accurate. We had 14 people post in the "Turn Your Purple into a Triple Donation" thread, so that's 4 winners who didn't list us as their Home Region.

How many more winners do we have?

If you've gone purple, check in here so we can get a good tally of how many of us have made our 50,000 words. Silver Norwood has offered to match LJ's donations for our region, and since my house repairs cost less than I expected, I think I can do the same: a $1.00 donation for every purple bar to NaNoWriMo.

So, check in and have your purple bar count triple!
Anyone else waiting to go purple until the novel is actually finished?

Hokay. I think I'm probably past 58,000 words now, and I think I know how I'm going to conclude the story. I think I'm in the last, or next to the last chapter, the one in which my cab-driver MC has a conversation with god that convinces god to let all of the major characters survive the novel...But I haven't reached the end of the tale yet. In my mind, what I'm trying to do is not just write 50,000 words in 30 days, but write a novel (or at least a first draft) in 30 days. I stubbornly want to finish the novel before I validate and go purple.

Anyone else in the same predicament?
Statistics

Well, here we are in the final week of NaNo.

I'm not sure how NaNo is ranking us this year. Last year it was by number of words per person, this year it appears to be total word count, which is not as accurate, I think, because a region with 1,000 members writing will naturally have a higher overall word count than a region with 100 members.

Anyway - we are currently ranked at 201, with a total of 1,266,749 words. We have 149 members. That gives us an average of 20,439 words per person, even though Geonn went over 100,000 words all by herself. We've donated $135.00 to NaNo - less than $1.00 per person, although if we only count those who are actually posting word counts, that amount goes up.

Tulsa, our co-state region, is ranked 183, with a total of 1,394,858 words. They have 201 members, giving them 21,134 words per person.

Oklahoma Elsewhere, the whole rest of Oklahoma, is ranked 130, with a total of 2,005,394 words. They have a whopping 604 members, so that brings their average word count to 19,232 per person.

Okay. I'm about two days behind on my word count as is. I can procrastinate a lot more (I just spent two hours tracking down the inscription on the outside of the criminal court building in New Orleans - LOL.) while I look for a name or I can procrastinate briefly and post here - thereby giving y'all something to procrastinate with. ;-D.

Nevertheless, I am determined to win...

Hi, everyone!

I had an embarrassing moment this morning as I was reviewing my story. (I'm still figuring out where I'm going with the darned thing.) I keep every chapter in a separate file, and then add each chapter to the file in which I keep the whole novel.

I discovered that I had added Chapter 15 twice. Fortunately, it wasn't a terrifically long chapter, but I still lost 500-700 words or so, and had to go and revise my word count downward.

Darn.

I'm still at or near 35,000, so I think I can still make it.

Anyone want to exchange Messenger names?

I love to keep in touch between meetups by IM or text, especially to do word wars. If anyone is interested, this is Myloe but I am morgaine816 here and yahoo, MSN, AIM, and Twitter. I do use Twitter but I don't check it often enough for it really to be a word war conversational place. But sign me up as your friend on any of the others, and Twitter too, and let's work together to get to the end.

BTW, shout out for me. I realize many of you are finished or at least very far along. But as of tonight (well it is actually very early morning) I passed 10k! This bypasses where I quit last year by so much that I am definately going to keep trying. Especially when it seems in a word war I can get about double the word count than just writing along because I make myself not get distracted.

Meeting at Beatnix Tonight!

The meeting officially starts at 6, but I'll be heading right over there after work, so I'll be arriving not too long after 5. For anyone who hasn't turned up at a meetup yet, I'm the girl with the cauldron and the laptop (now stylishly decorated with one of this year's stickers).

The Beatnix Cafe's website is here, and their address is 136 NW 13th. I hope to see some of you folks there!
Any Edmond writers? Parents with small kids?

My toddler has been very patient with me as I've been sitting in the playroom with my laptop while he does things like go through the closet where my old office supplies are and find a bunch of xacto knives. YIKES! At least they had caps on. But at least I can see him and catch him from doing anything too dangerous and still get some words down...
I need a name for a magical land!

In my story, my characters go back and forth between the "real" world and a magical world of a cross between fairy type with fairies and such and something like Marion Zimmer Bradley's Mists of Avalon. I just cannot keep up with a name for this magical land parallel to our own. Any ideas will be appreciated

How's ur book coming along? & other stuff

I was just wondering how everyone is doing? Are you gaining or losing momentum? I think I am finally on to something. Writing a novel is a lot more difficult than I had thought it would be. I figured once I started writing that ideas would start flowing.

I don't have a real story going, yet. I'm more or less describing my MC and trying to get to know her better.

Meetings?

I ran across the calendar earlier and I seen the scheduled meetings, but I guess my question is, what do people do at these meetings? Do people talk about their books, simply socialize, make sacrifices to the NaNoWriNo Gods ...
Planning Meet-Ups!

Well, folks, I'm just trying to get an idea of everyone's schedules. I know there's no way I can accomodate absolutely everyone, but I'd like to give it my best shot.

Our usual haunts include the Red Cup (at NW 31st and Classen) and Cafe Bella (at SW 89th and Penn). We've tragically lost Sober Grounds and Red Moon since last year, so if anyone knows of any great meeting places, please chime in! We're especially needing locations in the north, west, and east. I'd like to hold meet-ups in as many different parts of the city as possible, since we're all so spread out.

I'm available to organize meetings all day on weekends and in the evenings on every weekday but Tuesday. In years past, we've had our twice-weekly meetings on Saturdays at 3 and on Wednesdays at 7. If someone would like to organize a meeting at some time other than the regularly schedule meet-ups, just leave a post and I'll get it on the regional calendar.

Anyway, here's your place to chime in about your best meeting times, favorite places to meet, and any ideas for those upcoming meetings. Once I've got a better idea of what we're all needing and wanting, I'll get the regular meetings scheduled, and add any extras y'all want to tackle youselves.
Greetings and OKC Area Check In!

Hello and welcome, everyone!

I'm Jasmine, and I'm the OKC area ML, returning for my third year. I can be reached by email at thedeadlypen@gmail.com, or by phone at 816-3133. If you need someone to vent to, encouragement, just someone to chat with, or you're lost on the way to a meet up, don't hesitate to call me.

This is my fifth year with NaNo, my third as the OKC ML, and hopefully will be the year of my fourth win. This year's NaNo will include catacombs, an underground city, smuggling, jugglers, and a possible class war. We'll see how it goes.

You can now get info on upcoming meet ups by visiting our spiffy new Google calendar!. If you want to set up a meet up, just drop me a line and I'll get it posted up on the calendar.

If you're hanging out on the forums this year, whether or not you're planning on attending meet ups, then speak up! If you're new or you've been around this block a few times, come on out and introduce yourself, let us know anything you'd like to share (including how many years you've done NaNo or if this is your first attempt, whether you've won, if you've got any plans, whatever), and let me know what days of the week and times are good for meet ups.
