Welcome, everyone, to another year of noveling insanity. This is the 10th year anniversary of NaNoWriMo, and my fourth year participating. And November has become my new favorite month. :)
Please introduce yourselves and let us know where you're located. Last year we ran most of our events out of Old Forge, but as the participants change from year to year, it's good to make sure we're meeting in a place that's convenient for as many people as possible. Other possible locations could be Barnes & Noble in Wilkes-Barre or Borders in Dickson City.
We'll be keeping track of our events at Google Calendar. Here's the link:
http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=av53u541bjljm1oebtr5kib988%40gr...
The kind folks at HQ let the MLs in first to set up our welcome message, but we expect the site to be bogged down in the first few days as folks sign up and test out the new profile page. Please be patient. As things settle down, we'll be up to speed soon.
Happy Noveling!!

I grew up in NE PA.
Where in Old Forge do you do write-ins? I don't have firm holiday plans yet, so if I'm in the Valley for Thanksgiving, I might be able to join a write in around that time.

Hello! I'm not a native of here and I only live near the Scranton area. Meh, doesn't really matter. I doubt I'd have much time to make it to any event, but, it'd be great to chat with fellow in-staters during NaNoWriMo. I hope I will have time to participate. I'm attending LCCC so my schedule is extremely full of classes.
Here's hoping that next month goes well for me and everyone else!!

Howdy folks, back again for more insanity.
Maybe this year I'll make a meet-up, though I have been saying that since 2003. Nice to see a lot of people ready to begin 30 Days of Argh ;)
Incidentally, I am still in Courtdale, just between Larksville, Pringle, and Luzerne. Some day we'll get a traffic light here.
Glad to be here!

I'm located in Honesdale. Unless my health improves, I'll be doing all of my writing from home, though it would be nice to get out and meet fellow writers.

Hi Alice--I'm looking forward to joining the group again no matter where we end up meeting. I had a first line pop into my head a couple of weeks ago and it's written on a piece of paper pinned to the bulletin board in my office ready to go on November 1. Don't know what the rest of the story is about yet, but that's the fun of WriMo!
See you soon!

Hello, Alice, and other WriMos...
I'm a native of Scranton proper, born in Clarks Summit, although I never really seem to have adopted the accent. My profile already says this, but to sum up:
Tried writing lots before, little success, found Jim Butcher's LiveJournal, big help, outline's ready to go, doing this for strictly personal reasons.
Basically, I've had at least half a dozen stories rebounding off the inside of my noggin for years, and now I finally feel like one of them may finally have a way out. NaNoWriMo was a happy coincidence; I'd still write this thing without it, but as long as it's here, I may as well do it, right?
I can't guarantee I'll make any local events, but it sounds like it would be fun to try.

Hey there! Sorry I was offline for a while - I only have internet access at work, and I was off for a week. Hubby came home from NC to visit.
The kickoff will be at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, October 25th at 2:00 p.m. Please RSVP, so I know how many handouts and things to bring with me.
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi everyone,
I am so glad to hear that the meet-up is going to be at the B&N so I should be able to make it this year. Alice please e-mail either on here or my home addy lezfiction@yahoo.com and let me know if you could pick me up for and/or drive me home from the meeting. I really wish I had a car sometime!!!
Anyway, looking forward see everyone there. It sounds like we got a bunch of new ppl in the area this year so that should be great. Well, I better get back to working on my outline. You wouldn't believe how much I still have left to figure out.
Later,

Hi!
I think Tony and I will be going, provided he gets a grip on the calendar and stops trying to tell me that next Friday is Halloween. Maybe he just wants candy ...
Anyone know how B&N feels about outside food? I'll bring cookies! Or maybe just make cookie care-packages to go home...

Hello all!
I am in on the insanity with my husband wendiig0 here in Courtdale. We vowed to be out to more of these gatherings this time around-- I think getting to meet other people this year will really help with the writing process.
Anyhow, glad to meet you all and looking forward to the writing!

Mine is DiaDracenaWrites (left over from GothNo) if anyone is interested.

Awesome! We should have a nice turnout.
Sandy - I don't think B&N would notice if you brought food - they're pretty busy on Saturdays, and how would they know we didn't buy it at their cafe?? :)
And I just realized there's more than one B&N in Wilkes-Barre. We'll be meeting at the one in the mall. If there is another one, I don't know where it is - I don't live in the area. I can find the one in the mall because, well, it's at the mall. :)

I don't think there's one in the malll ... it's across Mundy (the one behind the mall) in a separate plaza? Unless I'm confused. But good news on the cookies!

The B&N we're talking about is technically in the Arena Hub shopping center, which is behind the Wyoming Valley Mall. If anyone needs directions, just tell me where you're coming from and I'll be glad to help you out. I spend so much time at that B&N my car knows the way by itself--and so does my paycheck!
For the record, the other B&N is in downtown W-B, just about next to Boscov's on S. Main Street. That one is actually less busy on Saturday and has a bigger cafe area, but it's more difficult to get to and to park at.
And unless I end up getting snagged to work on Saturday, I'll be at the kickoff. Can't wait!

I've lived in Scranton for a little over a year now. This will be my second time participating in NaNo, and I'm really excited about my story this time! I've also never gone to a NaNo event, because I'm a little skittish about that kind of thing. But I know my way around the area better now, so I'm going to try to make it to the kick-off!

Please check the Kickoff RSVP list here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3043727
If you're not listed, add a note to the thread. I'm having trouble keeping track since RSVP's are coming in so many ways.
Thanks!

Hello everyone!
This is my first NaNo experience and I'd love to meet some of you. Borders is a great location, but I won't be able to make the 15th as I'm planning to do a sort of film contest on that day. Will there be more meeting days in the Dickson City Borders?
I go to ESU during the week and come home to little ol' Hamlin on the weekends. (Just thought I'd throw that in there since everyone else is talking about where they live)

Hi Everyone,
I'm very new to this site, as I've just heard about it this morning. Right now I'm confused, and everything on here is very over-whelming, as well. Not being too computer savvy also, doesn't help.
I hope to learn much of the site by 11/1 so I'm not lagging behind you all.
This sounds like fun and I'm hoping it will help me break through my writer's block that I've been suffering from, for over a year now. It seems there's no end in site. *sigh*
Anyway, I'm happy to meet you all, also happy to be here :-)

Welcome Ax! If there's anything I can help you with, please let me know.
Rule #1 - write 1,667 words a day for 30 days. Rule #2 - celebrate!! There are no other rules. :)
Bridge - I think we'll be alternating between the two locations. That seemed to be what the general consensus was on kickoff. So we'll probably hit Borders again on the 22nd.

"Thanks" for the warm welcome Alice.
I'm a confused here.
Where do I write? I mean, do I write in that box that says "Novel Info." or do I write on my computer (word program) and then transfer it to that area? If so, when do I transfer it to this site? Also, how will I know my word count?
Or:
Is there an area that will show up, when this starts, for us to write?
I'm really confused, I wish I was aware of this site awhile ago, so I was use to it, I feel sooo...overwhelmed, trying to get around here. Also the site is very, very slow----is yours?
"Thanks"

You write your novel in a word processing software and then just note the number of words you've written in the box at the top of the screen next to your ID. You can post an excerpt in "Novel Info" if you'd like to share a little snippet with others, but don't write your novel there. It won't hold 50,000 words.
You can do a word count in Word. It's a feature in one of the tools. If you can't find it, I'll look for it and give you step by step instructions on how to do a word count.

The site is normally very slow at the start of November. It will get better by the end of next week, so have patience.

"Thanks", once again Alice! :-)
I'm feeling better, now that I know where to write and that the site will speed up. It's taking forever to get around here and I was losing my patience.
Feeling better now, I have to get an idea for my novel flowing! I haven't a clue, hopefully my "muse" will help me out tonight, she's been missing for quite sometime now!
I'll check for the word count, if I can't find it I'll be sure to let you know, so you can help me.
Your the BEST! "Thanks" for putting up with me!
Have a "Great Evening" :-)
