Hello, north staters,

I'm here. Are you there?

I hope we can pull together another great team of wrimo pals. Last year we had about 7 or 8 folks meeting Sundays in Redding. (And of course writing each other here) . It would be great to do it again.

For new folks: I'm in Trinity County, this will be my third Nano - I won the past two years. I have a two vague ideas for my book this year and am starting to realize I have to start actually planning. Oy.

I'm really looking forward to November.

Ann

I'm here, I'm here!!! Jen and I have tried to meet up all year and it just hasn't happened. I am hoping that we can all get together for nano this year.

We had a scare that starbucks was going to be closing, but they are still there.

Yaks in Bechelli has started to open on Sundays now!!!! I go there every Thursday night for my knitting group meeting, and there is a sign up saying they are open on Sundays now. They have free wifi!!!!

I have told a few people about our group, so I am hoping I have recruited a few more.

For those that are new:

Hello, I am Patricia and this will be my second nano. I won my completion certificate last year and I hope that I can win one again this year. I plan to finish the book I started last nano. Very excited!!!

Hey, hey, peeps! :D It's that time of year again.

I'm Jen and this will be my 2nd time participating in NaNo; I 'won' last year and look forward to having another go at it this year with a horror novel, rather than a fantasy. Never finished the other one -- I should have better luck with this one. ;) And planning? Pffft. Who needs planning? XD

It'll be great to see if we can get another group together like the last one! Yaks would be an awesome place to gather (I went once and was pleasantly surprised).

Anyway! This will be a blast! :D Good luck to everyone!

Yo!
Hey, I'm Hannah. I'm going to Simpson U in Redding. This is my third year doing NaNo, and I'm hoping to have another rousing success! Not that my successes are rousing, haha. Last year I barely made 50k. I'm thinking about trying for 75k this year, though.
I've done fantasy last two years, decided to try teen fiction this year. Woot. Haha. Nice to meet you all!

Yay, glad to see some familiar names! And some new ones! I am so excited for Nano this year, though to be completely honest, I have no idea how I'm going to be able to manage it this year, considering my responsibility list is substantially more intimidating than it was last year. I don't know what I'm going to write about, and November keeps creeping closer and closer. But the fear is half the fun... I guess.

Time for the intro! My name's Ashley. I've done Nano for the past 3 years, won the last two, but just barely. And hey I go to Simpson too, sweet!

It looks like we're gonna have another great group like last year, and hopefully I'll be able to come to more meetings. Those were very fun.

Hey, great to hear from the old and new Nanoers. Siskiyou - great - we could go for a tri-county support experience.

Has anyone heard from Casey or Ron? or tfkfan - (I'm blanking on your name, young Red Bluffian. Blame it on my advanced age.)

I just re-read my Nano effort from last year. I got about 1/3 of the way through the story. It was actually better than I remember it. Semi-coherence. Have other people worked on their 2007 books this year?

I have heard a bit from Casey, he's over on myspace. LOL!

I have been working on my last years effort. I am well over 80k words now, so I am hoping to add at least another 50k this year so I can call it done.

Haven't heard from Ron or.... the red bluff girl. I feel bad, I cannot remember her name either. I suck!

Are we planning on meeting once this month before November hits us? We should meet at Yaks the Sunday before Nov. so that we can decide if we want to meet there or not.

The Yaks on Bechelli lane is now open on Sundays until 5:00 pm, so I was thinking we could meet there at about 1:00 pm.

I'll reserve the conference room for that day and time if we all agree to it.

Okay, I went ahead and took the steps to get our space at yaks coffee shop on Bechelli. I left a message asking for the conference room for Sunday the 26th of this month and for every following Sunday through November. I also asked for the time frame of 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. If this does not work for everyone, please let me know right away so that I can change it. I know that their conference room is in constant use, so if we need to make changes, we need to do it now!

Oh yay, I love YAKS. Sundays are still good for me. And I'd love to do another pre-November meeting. Since we (hopefully?) have the conference room, we don't have to wear red again, do we? Haha.

I haven't really touched my '07 piece--I haven't written that much at all this year, for that matter. I've been spending a lot of time doing editing for a couple of people. I suppose I've been saving up my creative juices for November, so finally getting back to my work will be really exciting.

Tfkfan = Mary. :-)

Hi all. I'm new to this insanity. This is my first Nano and I must say I am a little scared. I have been writing for years, but never really seem to get anything completed. Hopefully, after this is over I will be well on my way. I have already begun the brainstorming!

I am so glad to hear that there are people meeting here in Redding. It will be nice to have a little bit of accountability and encouragement. I can't wait to meet anyone else crazy enough to do this. :D

Sundays 1-5 at Yaks. Its a plan. Great! No muss, no fuss, just a fast decision. I'm having some car problems right now, keep your fingers crossed that all repairs will be done before November.

Mary, Mary - of course! I remembered her name last night when I woke up to move my heavy cats off my feet. And then re-remembered it reading your post.

Mary - where are you??

Welcome, soggy brain. Nano is a lot of fun, and we are a supportive group. No fears, just giggles.

Sorry SAggy brain - not soggy brain. Such a difference.

And Patricia, are you continuing your 2007 novel this year? Or starting with a new story? It's against the "rules" - but I am also considering doing it. Partly because I have no idea for this year - and because I was kind of pleased with last year's effort. I think there is something there if I can dig through the mounds of garbage I had to throw around. I tremble when I think of breaking one of the few rules of Nano.

I think the rule just means you can't use pre-existing writings as part of the word count? Since the spirit of the thing is writing all the words (all 50k of them! madness!) in the month. Otherwise, I think they're kosher with folks using everything else as backstory/fluff/whatever-else-one-wishes-to-call-it.

I re-read mine from last year and was startled at the coherence. It might be worth revisiting, but ... not now. I'll try my hand at horror and see how that goes. :P

Awesomesauce! :D Thanks, Patricia. I'll be there with bells on (figuratively speaking) ... how strange to think I got my laptop last year because of NaNo and, now, I can't imagine living without it. XD

Also, it'll be fantastic to see how many other NaNoers are going to show -- the more the merrier!

Okay, first the bad news...

The conference rooms are used for Sunday school on sundays, so we can't have them. I asked about how busy they are on Sunday afternoons and she said that once the church goers come and go at around 1:30 that it is pretty quiet and that we could pull a bunch of tables together if we wanted to.

So, I'm thinking Yaks is still a go and we will see how well it will work for us before NaNo actually starts.

As far as my book, yes I am going to use what I started last year, but not the word count, my word count will start at zero, but each word I write will be added to my book. I don't think the rules really prevent anyone from doing that. It seems they are really loose about their rules. Thank goodness. I really want this baby done!

Ann, hopefully your car will be behaving in time. I hate having car problems. Mine is having a fuel injector problem that makes it so I can't park on a downward slope. If I do and I have less than half a tank of gas, it won't start. Grrrr!!!!

Okay, well I hope to see everyone's bright happy faces on the 26th.

Yeah, I'm thinking about going to an old story, rather than start a new one. Especially since I've been getting a ton of new ideas for it and nothing else. I think they're not so much "rules" as they are "guidelines"--it's not like you win anything other than the satisfaction of pumping out 50,000 words in a month. There's no point in "cheating," you only cheat yourself. Honestly, I would feel so much more accomplished winning with new 50k for this old story and finally getting down to the meat and potatoes of the plot than starting a brand new story that I'm really not that passionate about and will probably never finish.

And I really really *really* want to get this story rolling again. It's been stewing in my head for years!

Hey, Hannah, who was it you convinced to do it this year with you? Maybe we can all carpool together, because I don't have a car either >_< . And do you know anyone else on campus who's doing this? It would be awesome if we could get a group together for write-ins on 2nd floor lobby, or at our YAKS or something.

Stop by my room sometime and we can chat--I'm in 301!

Hey y'all! I came (really) late to the party last year, I think I found this group in the last few days of November. So here I am again, hopefully making up for it... anyway, I'm psyched about the book I'm doing this year. It was supposed to be a short story and then the idea kind of... exploded. I actually have an outline, which is practically a first. It's only in my head, as yet, but still. Outline!

So I'm in Trinity County, and any Weavervillians here might know me as the new girl at Coast Central. This is my second NaNo, and I had such an awesome time with it last year that I can't wait for November to get here so I can start again.

Hey Random - I remember you from last year. I'm the other Weaverville writer - this will be my third time for Nano.

Alright, I've been checking around on the new story/old story issue. It seems they are pretty strict about the rules they do have - they are few but firm. The word is that they know people do continue to write novels they have already started - and so did put the Rebel forum out there. They are supportive of people writing anything. BUT the feeling is that the person doing that should not really count it as a win if they get the 50K.

A few ways around this. Start writing Vol. 2 - a la the Two Towers - same story different "book". Find a different main character to continue the story around. Write a sequel. OR do what you want and just don't tell anyone. The thing about the rules is that they are self-imposed. The honor system.

I am still floundering about what I am going to write about. Maybe a modern fairy story.

Can't wait to hear about what you are going to write about this year!!!

Yay! I'm so excited to see a Redding group is around! I thought I was going to have to join the Chico group or something and just have no local support. I'm in the process of moving, and next Sunday is my 28th birthday (ooooold!!) but I'll be there in spirit if not in truth. I might have a friend I can coerce into going with me and possibly even participating in NaNoWriMo. It would be just up her alley.

Funnily enough, over the last few days I've been kicking around a novel idea with my husband, and I'd completely forgotten about November being the month in which to write a novel, until I found a NaNoWriMo post on Facebook for one of my friends.

Note: This will be my first NaNoWriMo. o.O Also, I will try to get to Yaks on Sunday if at all possible.

My novel genre is...kind of a sci-fi/paranormal novel with quasi-religious flavorings. It will also be...deliciously wicked. *grin* It'll probably end up even being a series, hopefully! I'll have to look up rules, as my husband has helped me a lot with plot development and characterization ideas, though I'll be the one to write it, when writing actually starts to happen. November 1st at midnight. *nods* (Erm, actually...I might be a little...drunk, at that time. *coughs* Not that I'm going to be at a Halloween party, or anything... >.>)

Hope to see some of you soon!

Hi Mary {waves excitedly}. I'm glad to see you're around this year. And with a driver's permit!!!! Fun. The freedom of the road, the teen dream of the American West. The wind in your hair.... Oh, but you still have to bring your mom. Oh. Okay - responsible and cautious driving to - to - to our Sunday meeting at 1:30.

(Actually, I can't imagine you as a road demon even next year.)

I'm planning to come - Yaks, on Bechelli, at 1:30. Bechelli? I will mapquest it. And if rides are a problem - I have my car back and could do some ferrying of the pedestrians.

See you later.
