Greetings All,
Thanks Katherine, for being our liaison! My name is Sarah, and I am in Ashland, Oregon. Here is what I have to tell all of you. During the month of Novemeber my living room is going to be a bustling writer headquarters. I did a trial ten-day write-a-thon on September where we had write-a-thons every evening from 6:30 to nine pm everynight. Sometimes there was only one other person than myself and sometimes tehre were six. I invited everyone I could think of to come and I have already started inviting for Novemeber. Some people are doing Nanowrimo and some are not, but the whole thing was inspired by this event and the community spirit and absolute creative frenzy it represents.
I don't know what the dates will be in November for write-a-thons I will be hosting in my house, but lets just say there will be a lot. I hope you all will join on board. I love writing alone, but if I do it for too long I find I am courting insanity. I was amazed by what this group was able to accomplish that we would have never done by ourselves. One person wrote a powerful short play on a subject matter the group gave her the strength to face. Another wrote ten pages a night on a book he'd been working on in his head for a long time that he'd never put to paper. I broke through on all kinds of scenes i was stuck on.
I had planned on it being just a place where we could all come and work like other Nanowrimo write-a-thons I'd been to in the past but sometimes people wanted to do a ten minute writing exercise and read a bit, sometimes people just wanted to work straight thru and every now and then someone would say, "Hey, can I read this to you?" It was great, it moved us all forward so much.
I was so struck during these ten days at how isolated creative people often are and when we come together it can make us strong. That's what I love about the opportunity of Nanowrimo. So I invite you all to participate with me this November and to create and show up for additional group events as well.
I wish you all an ecstatic dance with the creative spirit this November!
Sarah
