I've recently moved to Corvallis, and was wondering where and how often meet-ups take place. Do we have a kick-off and TGIO party? I'm excited to make some friends up here, and I figured NaNo people would be excellent friend-targets. I've done NaNo three times back in Los Angeles, but it was difficult for me to make it to anything other than the TGIO parties. Oh, Corvallis... how I adore your size and lack of traffic!!!

Also, just thought I'd ask: Anyone else a regular to the 2nd St. Beanery? It's a great place to write. I'm usually in there once or twice a week.

We plan on having a kick-off and TGIO party (smite me if I'm speaking out of turn here, Saoba!) but we haven't nailed down locations yet. They'll show up on the nifty calendar when we have them ironed out (see link above topics in the regional forum).
We're likely to be a lot *smaller* than the turnout you're used to in LA. We had a whopping dozen or so at our TGIO gathering last year.

We had meetups about once a week last year, and the campus residents did some gatherings at the university library in addition. Very low-key gatherings where three to seven people brought laptops and we typed away. (Aren't many places with much plug-in capacity, so charge those puppies well!) I am hoping to do the same this year, but I'm kind of waiting to see how many people are in Corvallis and how many in Albany (like me).

Albanians! Speak up!

Our Corvallis writing sessions were at Old Worlde Deli last year, just up the street from the Bean Brain...er... the downtown Bean. *grin* I used to call that my second office, but I haven't hung out there in a long time.

Awesome. Truth be told, at the LA parties, there were so many people it was a bit overwhelming for shy folks like me. Unless I'm wrong, we had maybe forty-fifty WriMos show up over the course of the night. Craziness.

I know the Old World Deli! It must make a great place to meet.

My days of being a student at OSU are past; but I do hang out at the 2nd Street Beanery regularly (almost every day). This will be my third try at Nano, & it would be good to have some mutual encouragement going on!

I have officially failed one Nanowrimo, but successfully completed my very own PaNoWriMo (Pamela's Novel Writing Month) in March of 2007. I am a manager in retail, and November is usually a pretty crazy month to try and sit down and write a novel. Spending time with other writers might help me keep my nose to the grindstone a little better...

Yes, it is the evil empire, but I would like to offer the Borders cafe for meetups, too, if you'd like. I'm there all the time anyway, and the guilt sensations caused by seeing other writers hard at work might just keep me inspired...

Oh, Borders is actually a nice idea. I like it in there, and I bet they'd like to have us.

I mean, all those books! :D

In terms of a meeting place, I would like to support the independent booksellers in Corvallis; we're so lucky to have them. So Grassroots is a possibility. As you probably know, they have a loft (granted, patrons would come up to browse!). It's not the most quiet, but I wouldn't think Borders is, either.

Here here to both Grass Roots and Borders (gah, corporations). I've got some classes at the Benton Center, so it would be kinda nice to just walk over to Borders. BUT. I'm totally for supporting independent bookstores!!!

By the way, if anyone's seen me at the Beanery (probably going there tonight for music) look for a black trenchcoat and knee-high boots. One thing that's cool about a smaller town is that you recognize just about everyone. It's funny.

This is the first time I realized the true benefit of moving to Corvallis! I moved here in July from Grants Pass and there wasn't a real region so meet-ups weren't very well organized. I'd LOVE to meet up and write with you all! My work schedule is pretty ridiculous but if I could manage it it'd be great. I will be out of town at the beginning of November but anything after that would be great. I just home my travels will inspire me rather than hold me back on my word count. That's the hardest part!

Albanian? *grin* it amuses me. I've got two Albany write-ins on the calendar now; at the library.

When will we know the date of the kick-off party? Also the location, but the date is more important.

Kickoff party will be the (early) evening of Sunday, Nov. 2. I'll make a regional post and email about it when I've got all the details ironed out. It's on the calendar now, though!

Anyone else in Corvallis have wacky/inconsistent work schedules? I've been participating in NaNo for two years, making this my third, now but I have yet to go to a single mee up! I'd really love to but my schedule is so obnoxious. I'm thinking early morning or late evenings would be ideal? Anyone else up for breakfast or dessert? lol

I'm down with mornings or late evenings. I just have to consider the distance/time from campus, so that limits my availability. Oh well. I've resigned myself to the fact that I may only be able to make it to the on-campus meetings. I hope you end up finding a time that works.

Lack of traffic? *smirk* Have you tried going on errands in town on game day? *hee hee* I can laugh now, but ay caramba, nightmares and annoyance extreme. This is my first time doing NaNoWriMo, and I'm curious as to what meet-ups are like. My roommate's a NaNoWriMo(er), has been for three years, but I've yet to recall her going to a single one.

Yeah... take that game-day traffic and imagine it as perpetual. Although I must admit, game-days can get pretty sticky if you hit 'em at the wrong time.
Good luck with your novel! The first time is epic.

First timer here! I'm glad there are people in the area doing this! It feels good to not be alone!

I love the deli! I'm pretty open minded about places to meet in town. So long as they have a bike rack I'm golden.
