Hi all ~

Here is the 2008 thread for members of Kelley Armstrong's OWG! (Well, actually, anyone who has signed up on Kelley's Writing Discussion Forums as a NaNo participant. But OWG is shorter and sounds better...)

Let's all rally together and get to "The End" by Nov 30, shall we?

Thanks for making our new home! You've decorated it wonderfully *wink*

I'm really excited about NaNo this year! I only hit 25,000 last year, but with everything that was going on in my life, I was pleased that I made it as far as I did. This year I'm going the distance!

Hello, children. Aunty Tez on procrastination duty right now. Coincidentally, my theme song for my NaNo just popped up on my Playlist. I shall have to find a YouTube clip or something so I may share it with the world...

Gadzooks, man, my writing voice today seems rather odd. Odder than usual? Odder than Bill Oddie? Buggered if I know.

Back to my hidey-hole...

Hmm. Any chance, considering your current mood, that the song is People Are Strange?

I'm... here, but undecided, I guess. If my short term disability is approved (FINALLY), then I'll have the time to try another NaNo. If it's denied, I'll have no choice but go back to work, ready or not. In which case I'll probably drag myself to a few of the bigger local events and cheer everyone on from the side lines. I'd love to know for sure that I can do it again this year, but if I'm working, 100% of my energy will be wrapped up in making it out the door on time and surviving until 5pm. There won't be much left over for writing.

More likely I am strange, but I don't think that's a song ;-)

Just made a timeline for my narrator's past. Now how to make one for the world.

My brain is b0rked. Preparing to write a futuristic is hard.

Here's hoping your brains aren't b0rked, and have a lovely day! :-)

Kasabian's "ID" is the theme song for my futuristic. It was never released as a single, so there's no video. But I found the audio online, so you can hear it.

Have a lovely day! :-)

Ach! I signed up to get email notifications of new replies in this thread, but they're not arriving in my Inbox :-(

Maybe the problem is Gmail - some of my LiveJournal stuff hasn't been arriving either...

Have a lovely day! :-)

Well, it looks like we'll have a pretty strong showing here this year, too! Good luck everyone, and have fun planning! There's... what... a little less than 3 full weeks left?

I'm not getting notified either. I wonder what's wrong?

Is everyone ready? I'm sorta stuck for plot points in the middle of my NaNo project. I NEED more stuff to throw *pouts*

Does anyone else have the middle "lag"?

Okay darn it, let's see if this one shows up. The NaNo board seems to hate me this year.

I'm here! I'm here!

Pick Me! Pick Me!

Oh, sorry, wrong personality came out for a minute there ...

Have just drafted a 5-sentence summary of my story, based on a template by Saundra Mitchell that I found here. If I may say so myself, I haven't done too badly ;-) Usually I'm emoing, so every little victory I get makes me proud ;-)

How are you all doing, may I ask?

Have a lovely day! :-)

Hell no, I'm not ready! My beginning seems good, my end's okay, but the entire middle has to be scrapped, and my brain needs to come up with something better.

Thinking makes my brain hurt. At least, it did on Saturday.

Have a lovely day! :-)

Okay, gang, so NaNo's started! How is your progress coming along?

Thoughts, worries, exultations, horror stories?

For myself, I started off just after midnight, and the writing was going well but I got tired. After getting up this morning, however, the words took a lot more work to get on the page. I'm almost to the daily 1667 needed to make 50K, but it's been like pulling teeth at times.

I'm here! I'm here! (Avangyline, that is!)

I've already had some surprise interruptions, but I'm not lagging too far behind and it's early enough not to worry.

Good luck, everyone!

Just found this place and hoping don't get kicked out so waves madly!!!

Right, didn't even know there was a discussion forum so sort of missed that. Doing nano again for like the 5th year in a row and hoping to hold onto my sanity :-)

I'm making the word goals so far, but it's definitely a daily strain.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it easier/less painful?

I tend to make my goals on a 2 day run, that way if I'm having one bad day I can still make my goal up the next day. And that's really helped this year so far, with 2 ho-hum days and 2 gangbuster days.

This being my first NaNo, I have a few impressions so far:

-it's much harder to hit 1667 words a day than I thought it would be. I'm barely averaging 1300 words/day and that's without watching hockey or any of my favorite TV shows this week!

-I can definitely see the value in preparing a detailed outline. I'm constantly referring to my outline for plot structure. I only wish I had spent more time on the outline because I find myself randomly inserting new scenes to fill in gaps.

-sometimes my writing is labored and sometimes it's free flowing. The best part is finding that rhythmn once you latch onto an idea.

Welcome aboard!

Unfortunately, Kelley's site is down today--the plus being that the NaNoers can check in here.

I've started doing writing sprints; too early to know if it will get me up to goal, but so far so good.

Don't worry, just keep plugging away. Sometimes my second week is better than my first and other times, my muse and all my thought processes leave in the second week.

As for the editing, you can try and make a deal with your internal editor. Write for 50 minutes or 55 minutes, then set a timer and edit for 10-5 minutes. Then no more until you've written for another 50 or so minutes - it's helped me my first couple of years when all I wanted to do was make it perfect as I went :-)

Hi everyone. As usual, I'm late to the party. As long as you haven't hogged all the chips and dip, I'll be happy. :)
Actually, I'm using a work in progress, but I had written just under 5,000 words before November 1. So I am taking the 5K off my word totals. So if you are on the board and look at any of my posts, you'll see a discrepancy in word count.

If I can help anyone with anything, you've only to ask.

Susan

I found it, I found it!!!
Okay, so I suck at computer communication for the last little while...okay, months. Real life has been real interesting lately.
But here's my nano story saga so far...
3 days before nano, I have no ideas, characters or plots
2 days, have the niggling twitter of an idea
1 day before nano, in sheer panic I latch onto the idea and write out 10 sorta chapter headings...not scenes, but chapter headings. In a quirky twist of fate, my writing of this book has become more acceptable. I know the set up and climax or the climax and end of each of the ten chapters which is actually working for me. Cool. Weird, but cool. I may have stumbled upon something to help me with my writing the rest of the 11 months of the year. Or not, we'll have to see how I do this year.

Nano is working though. I'm up to 20k by the 9th, so that's good. Hope it continues. We will see. Well wishes to everyone! Will be working extra hard on story during the 10th and 11th as I have them off!
Good luck!
