ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!

Cranked to eleven!

Simply put, I've got a playlist going on Windows Media Player that's already over 40 hours, and I supplement that with Youtube and Free.Napster to get over 100 hours.

As long as I write, my music goes, and as long as my music goes, I write.

NaNo 08 - False Humanity

OMG!!! You hit a lot of my play list but fortunately(?) you deviated with Bach, Hayden, etc. ::phew:: I thought my alter ego had sprung to life. Again.

My playlist is so varied. I have 15gb of music. I am soooo covered for November. I am adding some gregorian chants this year. Imagine: Bon Jovi, Pink, Gregorian chant, Daughtery, Mannheim Steamroller, Aerosmith, Evanescense, Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Well you get the idea - you never know what is going to happen.

I'm the only person I've ever heard of who writes along to the sound of someone else reading aloud.

You bet I did! I managed to catch one of the last stops of the End is Here tour. It was awesome.

I'm still working on picking up some of the albums, like Proof that the Youth are Revolting, and Cheeses of Nazareth.

I think I might try listening to Dresden Files audiobooks, if I can get a hold of a few more. Maybe the better quality of writing and the sexy sexy sexy voice of James Marsters will inspire my own writing to a higher level.

I'm debating about my playlist. Usually it looks like this:

It's a good mix for the post-apocalyptic setting I wrote last year, but I don't know how it will translate to a more serious period piece. Should I go all-classical? Does the library have enough spare classical music to make this viable???

This is probably not pertinant, but my dad totally looks like billy joel.

Now i'm going to shuffle off to bed, since clearly I need sleep.

I make playlists for each WIP, but I also switch around depending on the mood I need. I have a very eclectic collection, though I prefer new age, world, and electronica when I write.

I do, though, have two Kelly Howell hemi-sync CDs which I use for writing: High Focus, and Deep Inisight. It has that technology that is supposed to trip you into a meditative state very quickly; I use those two when I need to focus fast or am just having a day/section where it's a struggle to get to the zone.

Once again we wander on and whence we come to our destination, none shall know. And none shall care either, for in the end the journey, not the destination, proves the mettle of the traveler.

I also use Carmina Burana - Carl Orff, and Bizet from your list... I range from counrty western (about five songs) to rock, folk, celtic (tons), pop, world, new age, Latin, easy listening, sound track. I guess classical predominates, however.

My i-tunes just informed me that I have 1191 songs, enough to last a continuous 36 days, so I guess I have November covered...

Ha! I just clicked on genre and discovered I also have things labeling themselves as alternative, punk, calypso, gospel and religious, holiday, jazz, Reggaeton y Hip-Hop and Traditional Georgian. The "y" is "and" in Spanish... I also have some Greek, a type of Russian from Georgia, (the school once had a foreign Exchange student from there,) and lots of other languages...

I've got such an ecclectic taste it really depends on, not only the day, but the hour and mood I'm in. But there are a few that pretty much OWN their spot in my playlist.

When I'm writing, I tend to do best with songs that either a) have no words or b) have words that I can't understand. For that reason, my standard NaNo playlist the past few years has been a Bollywood-inspired techno mix. The soundtrack to the movie 'Pi' also always does wonders for my productivity.

Occasionally I will also put together a playlist for my main POV character, which helps me get in the mood to write for that character.

I agree with tiamata. Music with no words, music with words I can't understand. If there are lyrics, and I know them, I will try to sing along. This even applies to instrumental versions of songs with words, so you may occasionally witness me singing along to the music at Panera when I should be writing.

I have a ton of opera on my ipod, courtesy of the Unnatural Acts of Opera podcast, as well as a lot of classical and a little bit of jazz. And like Mary, I also have the Darcy Baston Collection. It's good stuff for keeping the "ooh shiny" part of my brain occupied while I work - not just during Nano, but also at my day job.

I also have earplugs.
