Care to meet at a library? I'm in the Bear Creek (West Houston) area and I know Katherine Tyra Library on Clay Road has free Wi-Fi. I was there during the the post- Hurricane Ike days... and figured wow this is a great place to have a write-in. On Sundays the kids can watch movies offered by the library while we spend some time keystroking on our laptops. If anyone's interested let me know.

Hi Shyadi,

Aleif Library over on Kirkwood has free Wi Fi. I don't know too much else about it, except that it's within walking distance of my house. :D

We've had several successful write-ins at the Robinson-Westchase branch. Theoretically, they have free wifi, although it doesn't seem to work very often. We usually reserve the meeting room. There's no cost, as long as we're not charging admission (which we don't, of course). It would be a good idea to double check the rules when booking, but in the past they've let us bring in snack foods and drinks- we've always done pot-luck goodies to share- but not full meals.

The Katherine Tyra branch is convenient for me. I'd enjoy having a write-in there, especially on a Saturday. Saturdays are the trickiest time for me to fit in writing time, because I write while the kids are in school on the weekdays, but have to work around the family schedule on weekends.

For anyone trying to look up this library, it's the Jungman Branch of the Houston Public Library system.

I know the Conroe Central Library has free meeting rooms and free WIFI available. That might be true of all the library branches in the Montgomery County Library System, but I do not know for sure. It would be a great place to meet, especially if the group meeting did not want to be implicitly required to spend money (i.e., order expensive coffee, etc.)

Moody Library in the Houston Baptist University has free wi-fi and a few free computers. No idea about parking though.

Hey Elana, we can meet up at the Library anytime... plus for those who just want to find a good spot/ table and type is good enough for me instead of reserving a room. Maybe after a few hours depending on our schedule we all can hook up and have lunch or dinner at a nearby resturant. There's a Luby's, Fridays, and Spring Creek barbecue near by.

Actually, on the Library website, it's the Henington-Alief Regional Library. :) Sorry, I don't know why I was thinking Jungman.

I love the HCL-Freeman branch.(clear lake area)
The meeting rooms are ideal and the laptop availability is good for those of us whose laptops just crashed. (need to switch to a mac in a very bad way)

Hi,

I happen to be the manager of the Alief library. There is a small conference room with a large oval table that seats about 10 people that would be perfect. There is also a larger room that has multiple tables.

Welcome to NanoWrimo Mel!

Do you have plug ins for those of us who have laptops? :D I live just up the street from the Library and I show up regularly. I plan on bringing my laptop to the write-ins but the battery life sucks.

Yeah, I know it's a really obviously silly question, but still.

Again, welcome to the fun.

Diane,

I checked that out and there are enough power outlets, especially one or two people have a power strip. I used to routinely carry a power strip to write-ins and now, of course, I have my 'official' one.

Hi Diane,

Yes, as Stitch said, there are outlets. The conference room can seat 10 comfortably at on large table; and has 4 (2-plug) outlets. The large meeting room has lots of tables and chairs;and I counted 3 outlets today. However, it was hard to tell because it was crowded with early voting. We have our choice of which room will be more comfortable for the group. I also have power strips for those needing 'juice.'

If needed, printing can be done using the library's pulic computers. I can help with the mechanics of that, as it's not always straightforward.

Diane, all our write-ins are posted in the West Area write-ins thread ... including Tuesdays at the library. The exception being Nov 11. The library is closed for Veteran's Day so we're scheduled for Monday that week.
