LaMishia and I would like to introduce you to our very first Point of Contact (POC) for the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia!
A Nonny Mouse has courageously volunteered to represent the greater Waynesboro/Staunton area. As your POC, A Nonny Mouse will be organizing local meet-ups and write-ins. She will also make sure your local events are posted to the region's Calendar. Our hope is that by having a POC close to home, you will feel more connected to your region and be able to participate in NaNo related activities even though you may be far from the region's headquarters. And now a little bit about your POC: (cue Dating Game theme music)
A Nonny Mouse discovered NaNoWriMo last year and made a home for herself on the Newbie forums. If you head over there you still might find her lurking about on occasion. But Nonny Mouse is no longer a newbie. This second year Wrimo enjoyed the experience so much last year that she plans to continue NaNoWriMo..."forever!" So don't expect her to go anywhere soon, she is in the for the long haul. A teacher by profession, Nonny Mouse has found a new love in writing and hopes to meet Wrimos in her area that share the same passion.
We could not be more excited for our Southern Shenandoah Valley Wrimos! So if you are in the greater Waynesboro/Staunton area and would like to introduce yourself to your new POC, this is the place to do it! Post a note to say hello. She will be checking in over the next few days to say hello and get things heading in the right direction.
Happy Noveling!
Your Co-MLs Susan & LaMishia

Yay! First reply~ Hi Nonny Mouse! This is exciting- it's my second nano too, and the first one that I plan to go to write-ins and such for. I'm in Mount Solon, which is actually about half an hour from both Waynesboro and Staunton, and 45 minutes from Harrisonburg, so I will hopefully be happily here for anything you plan (and am suddenly using gratuitous alliteration! yay!) It's going to be a great month, especially as I recently discovered my plot, and I am sooooo excited! Can't wait for November!

Thanks to Susan and LaMishia for the warm welcome!
I am SO excited about this year's Nano, and I'm eager to get started, as I know all of you are too! So drop me a line, all you NaNo-ers of Staunton, Waynesboro, and surrounding areas! I'll be watching this thread daily.
I'm looking at having a kickoff meeting either Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon on November 1, so please contact me and let me know which would be better for everyone. Also, if you have ideas for places to meet, I would love to hear them!
Welcome to all, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Hey there!
Glad to have you on board, Firethistle! I'm like you, I can't wait for Nov. 1! I wish I could start NOW.... the waiting is hard!
We will most definitely have a kickoff on November 1, but I'm still working out the details. I will post something here, once I get that all settled. So keep checking back for info. I will also add you to my buddy list.
Great to meet you! Talk to you soon!

Hi, A Nonny Mouse, Firethistle and all.
First year here and I'm not the least bit intimidated (yes I am) with the scope of this website, or the goal I've set for myself (yes I am), or even what i should be writing here (yes I am). Just felt like it was important to get that out right away.
I'm eager (yes i am) and a little nervous (yes I am) and don't really really have much of a clue.
Pretty exciting. A couple of ideas stewing but no clue which is going to pounce ahead of the other at the last minute.

Hey Nonny Mouse- so excited for November! Whee! Okay, just had to get that out of my system- no one at school understands or appreciates my enthusiasm. Anyway, I actually won't be here for Nov. 1st- I'll be in Reston for the Virginia Theater Association competition- but I'll be starting at midnight anyway. For write-ins in Waynesboro (smaller gatherings, anyway) may I suggest Stone Soup? It's this little used bookshop/cafe that has plenty of books, delicious food, and perfect ambiance- the building is actually a converted 100 year old farmhouse. Plus, the owner's daughter is my best friend, and I'm sure they'll love to have a group of insane- *ahem*- creative writers! Just a suggestion.

Hey Firethistle!
I will check out Stone Soup for write-ins. Sounds like a good idea!
Okay, as far as announcements go (and I probably should make this a new thread, so it can be seen):
I will be out of town, and out of reach, until Monday, unless I can get my mom's old Win95 computer to work. If any of you NaNo-ers from the Augusta County area would like to get together before Nov.1, then please message me and we will most certainly set something up, either at Stone Soup or at Books-A-Million.
I'm ready for a get-together! Let's do this thing!
Looking forward to hearing from all of you out there!

Hello, all!
This is my 3rd attempt at Nanowrimo (if you call the first two events even "attempts" on my part). But I can tell this is my year to win! I'm a Stauntonian who works in Charlottesville and am interested in meeting other brave souls either through this forum, or for actual write-ins (which I know nothing about but find the concept inticing).
Happy writing!

Hello everyone!
Well, this is it! My first time for nanowrimo. I live in Staunton and read bookoos of books, so I thought to myself that this might be a good outlet for creativity other than music (I teach piano and flute at Staunton Music).
Good luck to everyone :)

Hey Bonnie!
I'm so excited that you've joined us, and I want you to come to our kickoff meeting this Saturday. We'll be meeting in the downstairs room at the Augusta County Public Library in Fishersville from 11 AM until 2 PM. This is a time for us to meet one another and discuss our plots, hopefully do some writing, and get this thing rolling!
Some have also asked if we could meet at midnight the night before. I'm game for that, but I haven't found a place that would suit. The suggestion was made that we could even meet at the Waffle House in Waynesboro for a "midnight kickoff," and I'm agreeable to that, if that's what everyone wants to do (or even if only some want to do that -- I can be there!).
So please let me know if you're interested in the Waffle House idea, and please try to make our meeting at the library. And welcome to the insanity! This is going to be great!

Hello all,
This is my first time trying NaNo. I live in Staunton (moved here a year ago from PA due to a job transfer). I love the area. I do read quite a bit and have dabbled in writing but from working so much I keep putting it aside, thinking I'll just write extra pages the next time I pick up a pen. Well, one of my problems is that I always go back over my previous chapters and find myself constantly editing and changing sentences, etc. So I thought I would give NaNo a try. Hopefully it will break me of the habit of continuously checking and rechecking. I want to complete an actual novel. I do have a plot in mind and do work well under pressure so wish me luck! And good luck to all of you.
Happy Writing!

Hi Nonny/Michelle!
I wish I could make it tomorrow. However, I've had plans set with a friend for lunch since before I decided to write for nanowrimo. And since I have an appointment to take my car in for some work in the morning, I can't make it at midnight either. Boo :(
Good luck to all on your first night/day of writing!

Hi there,
I don't have much to say that can't be summed up by my info on the left, but I'd just like to announce my presence and even though I'm 8-9 days late I hope to bang out at least 30,000 pages.

Hey there nine_thousand! Welcome aboard! Glad to have you with us!
If you would like to join us on Monday and Thursday nights, the WriMos in our county are meeting at the Books-A-Million in Waynesboro. It's located in the same shopping center as the new Target. We typically meet from 6 until 9 PM in the cafe. So come on over and meet some of your fellow WriMos!
Talk to you soon!
