Hello, is anyone in the Traverse City area that might want to meet at Borders or something? I actually live closer to Honor but there's no place to meet around here and I highly doubt I'm lucky enough to meet other writers so close to home. :)

Hi FSpowart, this is my third year! It seems like there was a few more down around T. C. last year! But mostly College students, wanting to meet in libraries. And I'm in my 50's, so I went towards Muskegan. I live in Irons, but I've yet to meet up with any other writers at this point...

We need a good solid ML so we can get something started.

I think it would be so nice to finally get a meeting going for our Area in Northern Michigan!

Traverse City is a drive from Iron's but do-able... It's a lot closer than traveling clear down to Muskegan!

I started out in Holland the first year while I was caring for an X sister-in-law with Cancer, but I've moved back home since then. But I was checking out places for the following year, and the best place I found was at the I-hop resturant. They have a coffee room, with full internet access! Isn't there an I-hop in Traverse City? If we can get something going, I'd be happy to meet up once or twice a week to write-visit with other writers, and just hang out! That would be so perfect!

Lets keep this thing going, and we might just surprise ourselves!

Good luck!
Diana

Ah, this is my second year. :D

Alas, I'm not even 'quite' a college student yet. I start next summer. Can't say I've yet been to the library in TC and I don't actually know if they have an IHOP (gosh, I haven't been to one of those places since I lived in California. I miss them.) but the Borders is a really nice book store with an entire cafe area in it. Nice comfy chairs, coffee, and internet!

My husband said he might know of one other good place but he's at work and hasn't told me yet, some really good coffee shop I'll have to ask him about.

Goodness, that is a heck of a drive... I'm coming from near Honor so depending on how fast we drive it takes about 30 to 40 minutes. How long does it usually take you to drive on to Muskegan?

I'll check around for an IHOP and other hang out friendly places, it would really be awesome to meet another writer. Once every two weeks is easy as beans for me. My husband has gone back to college (this is his last year, thank goodness) so I'm up that way a lot. I really hope we can get something going.

Hey there, I'm near Traverse City. South, by Buckley, actually. This will be my third year. I met one other NaNo'er my first year, at that bookstore downtown, what is it...Blue Moon? Borders? I forget.

Yup yup, that'd be Borders though there might be a restaurant also called the Blue Moon. :) Aside from my sister I've yet to meet another NaNoWriter. :) I'd love to start a get together or kick off party this year- something to meet all the other writers out there.

I could probably come to a meet-up mid-month or later. I have the GMAT exam (to get me into MSU's MBA program) on Nov. 8, and I won't be doing much NaNo before that I think.

Very cool, well I hope you're able to make it. I read via the intros page (which I have yet to participate in because I'm so lazy) that you're 19. :) So am I! Congrats on your initiation into the NaNoWriMo as your first year.

Awesome! I'll be up at Borders with my sister (Keiyou, another NaNoWriMo gal) on November 1st- it's official now. From talking to others around the net I think there will be about four others there but two of them are still kind of iffy not to mention all the others in this thread or 'might' show up. *crosses fingers*

Question: Are there any writers who want to get together for a cup of coffee or something BEFORE the NaNo, like somewhere here in the rest of October? I'm good any day but Tuesday after next.

Also, so far between here and other sites I've collected about 7 or 8 writers who will be up at Borders for sure but I don't know when. Will anyone be able to meet me on November first? Please? *googly eyes of super pouty'ness*

I live really close to Buckly and work in Traverse. My problem is that I don't have a car or a license and it'll be a little hard to get a ride from my parents saying "I'm meeting a bunch of people I don't know... about a writing thing on the internet..."

But incase I can get a ride, what exactly is going to go on there? Are we just lending support? Meeting, talking, actually outlining or writing or what?

MSN me.

Metal_Horse1220@hotmail.com

I might have a friend who wants to sign up that can get me there. Maybe. Thanks!

I think I can probably make it to a thing at Borders if it happens early enough. I always work at 4:30pm so if people are getting together between open and four I could make it.

Aphiliam: I've already chatted with you so I won't type it 'all' out again but I suppose we'll be chatting, writing, chatting about writing, and freaking out in general over the NaNo while enjoying the wonderful atmosphere of the bookstore. :)

xxeverendingxx: I can't show up at the open but I'm willing to head up there a few more hours early, let's say 1 or 2 PM (gotta talk to my ride first though), and I can be there till closing. :S Early is often difficult for me but it seems I might have to change things up. I'm really hoping this all works out.

No need to reserve, people gather there all the time. It'll be alright, but I'll call anyways and double check just in case. I'll do that tomorrow.

I live in Elk Rapids which is about a bit north of TC and have tried NaNo and Script Frenzy before but not won it yet. Its very cool that other Nano's are in and around TC. I will try to come on the first. It will be nice to have the first day be on the weekend, and to find out what other people are writing.

I tend to sci fi and fantasy writing and in one of my previous attempts wrote about genetically engineered supersoldiers. I've got two ideas this time around, one is more sci fi ish, about a national pasttime in the future, the other is more contemporary, somewhat in the style of pushing tin but with no real plot right now, just some characterizations drawn partially from friends of mine I had in high school and college.

Bookworm438: Kingsley is a nice area. :)

Azatol: Very good! I hope you're able to make it around this year. I think it always makes it easier to take on challenges like this when you have fellow writers to rant with. Do you know what time you might be up at the place? I ask so I can try to show up right around when everyone's gonna be there. :) Never done script frenzy myself, thinking about it this year though. :)

Sounds like you have a good variety and enough room to explore your inner plotter. :D That's a good thing and sci fi rocks. Mine is a combination between sci fi and mainstream fiction, depending on how you look at it. I look forward to swapping writerly thoughts with you. :)

If anyone is interested:

Tomorrow I'm going to be at Borders while my husband is in school. I go up there all the time when he's in classes, it's such a nice writing atmosphere. If anyone would like to come by and say hi, maybe have a pre NaNo get together that would be awesome. I'll be right in the cafe area with my sister (we're both pretty short so please don't mistake us for high schoolers), probably in one of the comfy chairs. I'll have a big, bright neon blue purse with white and pink flowers with me. Both sis and I will probably have our noses buried deep inside our notebooks but please don't be afraid to say hi, we'd really love to meet some other writers.

We'll be there around 4 or 4:30 in the afternoon... as far as my knowledge goes but I will be there one way or another.

I think this would be wonderful!
Let's do it!
I'm actually attending NMC right now, and Borders is really like a home away from home, haha. I love reading.
I'll try to make it on Nov. 1st- I have a concert for the Trillium Singers that night < self-promotion > 8:00 pm, First Congregational Church- it's 20$, but it's going to support breast cancer research- it's a great cause, and we would love to see you there! < /self-promotion >
I'm so excited- I didn't realize there were other people in the TC area doing this! Yippee!

:D Yesh! And too true to that second home bit, I know what you mean. My Hubby goes to NMC too right now so I'm always up there. I'm so happy so many of us will finally be able to get together. Now there's at least a good handful of us that'll be there on the first day. :D

That sounds awesome about your church. I love things that are for a good cause. :)

If anyone is interested, after NaNo (after as in around January) my sister and I are putting together a bi-weekly or monthly writing group. We already have several people interested so if anyone in the TC, Honor, Benzie, Interlochen, or anywhere else around that general vicinity would like to participate please let me know.

I'm so happy there are actually writers in my area getting together this year. It's so wonderful.

New resident of Traverse City here, and yes, this is my first NaNoWriMo too. I entered into this at the last minute, which is a little out of character for me since I tend to be early for everything.

I'm happy to learn that there are some other participants in the area.
