Is anyone interested in attending a kick-off or a wrap-up party? As I mentioned before, I participated in NaNo for the first time last year. This year, I am a supervisor at an independent bookstore. I would like to involve my store, but I'm not sure what is involved. I would like to hear back from the Municipal Liaison. Thanks.

Usually the ML hosts the official kick-off and wrap-up parties, and other people host more local parties for certain areas. I tend to hold ones in the Oak Creek area for those who can't get out to the central spots (which I think are typically scheduled somewhere on Highway 100). Same holds true for write-ins... because there's a number of us on the southside, there's write-ins at the OC Panera, the Greendale Borders, various libraries, and once at my apartment when we closed every other conceivable place ^_^ That one was pretty good, 'cause the coffee wasn't overpriced there and we didn't have a closing time... :D (if I recall correctly, though, very little was accomplished at that one...)

Kayla - I am hoping your bookstore is Schwartz in Shorewood - close to where I live. That would be great. I actually approached the store last spring about facilitating a writing group there - they said yes but because the kind of writing group I would run would involve reading our stuff outloud, I decided we need more privacy than the store could offer. They were quite welcoming, though, so I would think we could do a write-in there.

What is the Milwaukee Liaison?

Hi there... been awhile since I've responded to a NaNoMo post. Thought I probably wouldn't try it again this year (didn't finish last year, shamefully). But now that I see talk of meetings a few blocks from my house in Shorewood, the fire has been reignited. Please keep me posted on dates and times so I can try to be there. Thanks!

I might be interested, since I live in Glendale and am in and about Shorewood a lot. A lot depends on time and date. We've got very weird work schedules in this household.

Yeah, a meet-n-greet at Schwartz would be great. Of course, everywhere in Shorewood is close to everywhere else in Shorewood.

Hi - I'm not drawn to large gatherings so won't be attending the kick-off but I would be interested in a Shorewood write-in - orseveral.

Being that I am in vehement opposition to the rude nature of the South Siders, I think I'll stick to my own neck of the woods and attend some of the Shorewood events. I'll also be showing up to Alterra on Humboldt, the Caribou at Bayshore, and maybe even the Stone Creek on Oakland quite often for anyone who wants to private message me and set up some times to just sit and write, or discuss writing, or some-such.

Also, the writing group I run will be hosting some write-ins before our sessions and possibly at other times. If you want to join, you have to be nice. You can private message me, and I'll get you the information.

Hi - I'm interested in an occasional north shore write-in. All the locations you mentioned sound good to me. And perhaps there will be one at Schwartz, also. I'd love to hear more about the writing group you run and might like to come to one of the write-ins you would do before your session(s). rough
Keep me posted.
Thanks

Hi gang - Regarding an event at the Shorewood Schwartz, I have chosen the date of Friday, November 14. from 6-8 p.m. This is primarily a social event; checking in with one another halfway through the month. There will be free coffee for all NaNos. Let me know if anyone is interested in sharing their work. We could also have a reading.

Hello all, this is my first NaNo. I'll probably show on the 14th, seeing that I signed on a shade too late for pre-wrtiting or kickoff events. Even though I currently live near Marquette, I grew up on the upper East Side. My coffeeshop hangout of choice is Ruby G's at 21st and Wells, but I stop in every so often at (in descending order of frequency): Roast (Locust & Maryland), Caribou (Bluemound & Mayfair), Alterra's on Humboldt, and Alterra's on Lincoln Memorial. So, maybe I'll run into you, JB...

Hi Kayla - cool. Thanks for doing this. When you ask about sharing our work, do you mean the stuff we're working on for NaNoWriMo? Or other work? I've actually done readings at the bookstore twice. So, I'm willing to read, but I think people who haven't had the experience should take priority.
See you Nov. 14.

Hello folks.

The NaNo site is going to be slow for a few days, and I want to make sure that people have the ability to get a hold of me if they're interested in getting together to write. As it stands now, I have no plans during the week, so I am free all day. Also, weekends are fairly open, though the wife does want to see me a few times during November :-)

If you want to get a hold of me, email me at wifantasywriter@gmail.com or message me on AIM or Yahoo at wifantasywriter. I am online fairly often, and I can check my mail regularly from my phone. Let me know what times would be good for you, and we'll see what we can arrange.

Cheers,
JB

You mentioned Oak Creek, I am in Cudahy, have I missed the meet and greet? Also what is a write in? I am new to all of this. I am signed up and ready to get started however.

The Meet and Greet is tonight (11-1), actually, so whether you missed it depends on where you are on the time-space continuem. Its to be (or has been) located at Moondance Coffee, 7001 s 27th st, Franklin, WI.

Odd I should mention that (Space-time), since I am ignoring it in my novel....maybe it's on my mind?

Write-in are where various NaNo'er (And their hangers on) gather at a location (Usually where coffee is available, though I am more of a cider guy) and try to pump up their word counts. Usually (I went to a few last year) there is a lot of writing with periods of chatter ("Oh crap, I just killed my main character!"). Good times are generally had by all.

Hello all,

It's Tuesday, November 4th. First, you should all vote :-) Second, I'll be heading to the Stone Creek on Oakland after I vote this morning, so if anyone is available during the day and would like to sit with me, please feel free to do so.

You can email me (wifantasywriter@gmail.com), and I'll be able to check it on my phone. If you email me, I'll dish out my digits, so you can call and confirm. I'll keep folks posted on where else I'll be throughout the month. There are a few different coffee shops I like to frequent, so I'm sure I won't always be at Stone Creek.

Hope to see someone there.

Cheers,
JB

I had such great plans for doing Nano for the first time this year. But, an agent has gotten interested in my book (one I've worked on for an embarrassingly long time) and I received her letter asking for more chapters on October 31. I spent the next 3 days line-editing and obsessing before mailing off 100 pages last Tues. I have to devote all my writing time now to the final polishing of the last third of said book so that if the agent wants to see the rest, I can provide it. I'm happy/sad. Thrilled about the agent but disappointed not to be able to do Nano this year. I was looking forward to meeting East Side and Shorewood writers. Have fun at the bookstore on the 14th. Hopefully, I will meet some of you during Nano 2009!

Congratulations on finding an agent interested in your book judeford. I think that is a great reason for not doing NaNo this year. Good luck and I hope we'll meet you in 2009.

Thank you kayla 27 for organizing the party on the 14th. I'm really excited to meet up with other Milwaukee NaNo folks this Friday in Shorewood.

That's fantastic news, judeford! While we will miss you at the meetup this Friday, we will look anxiously for your book on the shelf at Schwartz next year. Best of luck to you.

Autumngirl and everyone else slogging their way through Week Two - looking forward to meeting you on the 14th.
