So this is the thread for those of you kids who either live in Davis Square, love Davis Square, or just enjoy the concept of drinking and writing (not to be confused with drinking and driving...this is of course not to be condoned by even the most frivolous and careless or Wrimos). ::wags finger in a warning manner::
I don't have work on Monday October 13th due to the Columbus Day holiday and I don't really plan on traveling so I was thinking about making that a good day to plot and plan world domi...I mean my novel. I'm thinking of meeting up in front of The Joshua Tree in Davis Square around 5:30p, grabbing a table with whoever meets up with me then and taking over the place until I'm either too stuffed to move or too pooped to poop from all the productivity.
I'm going to definitely be there so any and all are welcome to join. I'll be the one with a notebook, pens galore, and a fun hat if you want to come by later that evening.
Back to the daily grind...looking forward to this year's crazy verbosity!

Hey GhostLight, I have no work that day either! I'd love to come along and join in the plotting and planning. I keep telling myself "sit down and make something concrete out of all these ideas percolating in your head!" and it doesn't happen. This will be great motivation--I love the idea of a pre-writing write-in!
If you don't mind, I'll encourage friends and comrades to join in this, because I'd love to get some of my associates in on NaNoWriMo this year.
Thanks for getting the ball rolling on all this!

Not a problem Irascible. Glad to help in any way, shape or form. Totally invite other people; the more the merrier! :) Looking forward to how all of this turns out.

I've added this to the calendar as well, with a link back to this thread. GhostLight, you officially rock for setting up events. :-)

Thanks Travis...although let's not count our chickens before they hatch. The event has been planned, but stuff can still go wrong...

Mondays are always busy for me, but hope to see Davis Square NaNos another time.

I might be able to make it on Monday. I'll probably leave my laptop at home and just bring an old fashioned notebook. I haven't a clue what I'm going to attempt to write about, so I could use the planning.

I'm off Monday, and I'll probably have finished my Sociology paper by then, so count me in! See you all there!

I'd like to attend this. I *do* have to work on Monday, in Billerica, so I'll be fighting some traffic to get there; I doubt I'll get there by 5:30, but 6 or 6:30 is more likely.

That's cool to all of those who will be arriving late or what have you. I'll be there till the wee small hours probably, alternating between drafts of my proseminar paper on the facades of the dramatic monologue and my plot outline...
I'm so excited this is going to happen...

Just as long as there's a patch of table for my creaky laptop and a socket for its 45 min. battery, I'll be happy. I could try to bring a power strip, if that would make sense? I can't remember the layout of the Joshua Tree, so I have no idea how outlet-rich an environment it might be...

I've got 3-hour battery, but 3 hours may not be enough to contain a flood of novelly goodness... I'd not say no to a power strip, although I also know nothing about the outlets in the Joshua Tree. (I have a mental image of the group of us stalking through the jungle, lassoing wild outlets in their natural habitats...)

Hmm, good point...I'm interested in going as well, but how good is Joshua Tree for laptops, etc? (As opposed to, for exmaple, Diesel, which naturally has plugs up the wazoo!)

Hey everybody...so here's the update...
1) I've made a reservation at the Joshua Tree for 6 people at 6:00p on Monday. I've reserved a set of three banquettes (seats 12). Please do your best to send out a note with whether you are attending on this post. You can also send me a message via this website and I can keep track that way.
2) The banquettes that I've reserved are, in fact, near plugs. Now it's only enough for two people to "jack in" so if we want more comps, bring a...well I don't know what it's called but you know the dealie. It's the thing that makes outlets hold lots of plugs instead of just two.
3) I just felt like adding a #3.
Cheers,
Ghost Light

Post Script: 6 was an arbitrary number. If we turn out to be more via the response I get, we can certainly accommodate that. Just wanted to make sure everyone felt included!

I will be there, and I will have a friend of mine in tow who isn't on the forums but she will be writing. And I'm working on another, but I think he's on here and can speak for himself whether or not he's coming. ;)
Hooray! I'm really excited for this :D

I'm coming, and I will be meeting up with another NaNoer tomorrow afternoon who may be interested in coming. I'll tell him the dealio and post back on whether he'll be coming as well, but I'll be there regardless.
Rock on!

LOL @ Irascible!
I'll try :) No booze for me right now and that will shock the bartenders who know me. Hell, I don't think there is a bar in the Davis Square area where the bartenders don't know me...hence, the imposed sobriety ;)

Irascible, your name does you justice... I would laugh at the idea of "working on" someone if I weren't waging a three-front campaign of persuasion on unsuspecting friends right now...

Yay for me! I was mercifully given the day off Monday and finally forced myself to sign up just now. Great timing for me. I’d love be there and meet other writers.

I'd like to try and make it for a while if there is still room. :) I've been participating in (not winning, unfortunately, sigh) Nano since 2002, and have NEVER gone to any meet and greets! Oh, the humanity!

I was really looking forward to meeting all of you, but I'm still at work at 7:15, so it's not looking good... I hope to have better luck for the meet & greet next Saturday.

I just wanted to throw out a quick thank you to all those who attended the little write-in at the Joshua Tree. We dealt with rowdy Red Sox fans (one fan in particular who cheered and was loud at the Wrimo table...::grins sheepishly::), pretty awesome nibbles, good people, and what seemed to be a good amount of productivity. Some of the stuff that I came up with actually changed the way that my novel is going to go I think, but we'll see.
Definitely the first of many times that we'll be Wrimo-ing it up in the Davis area. I'll figure out my schedule for the month of November and try to make it a bar-crawl/wrimo-fest. I mean let's combine my two loves: Beer and literature/writing.
Anyway, I hope you all had as enjoyable a time as I did. Twas fun to not feel so alone in this crazy task of writing a novel. :)
