Where and when?

I'm aiming for Sunday the 7th, since this Sunday is the 30th. Or we could do Saturday, the 6th, at night. I work Saturday days till around 4 p.m.

I'm available weekdays after 7:00 plus travel time, but I prefer a weekend.

Do you guys want to do a restaurant, a tea house or a coffee house? Last year I had it at the hard rock cafe in Pittsburgh, but we aren't anywhere near there. (And we had this insane waiter who asked us why we were there and we told him, and he announced it to the entire restaurant on the loudspeaker!)

Suggestions, everyone! And please come, whether you won or failed spectacularly! No excuses!

Wow, our little region certainly rocked in word count.

We had 68 participants (1 region member is the manager, she lives in CA, so we cant count her).

We had 52 finishers. Yay! *does the happy dance*

We had 23 winners. *jumps up and down with her hands in the air* Wooot!

We had 9 people with 51k+ words. Wow!

We had 2 people with over 60k words. *hugs*

We had 1 person with over 100k words!

Special congratulations on 133, 861 words, sztownsend81! That is a feat few people can boast.

I hope everyone enjoyed their year!

Finished! freak out

I crossed the finish line with 200 words to spare! *pant pant wheeze cough*

It wasnt' a very successful year for me though, because I didn't find a story with true potential until this week. Now I have about 12k words of a story that promises to be very intricate, and hopefully, the werewithall to find a way to work on it through this year.

Not sure what I'm going to call it yet, but it's there! Written down with a good start, a romantic couple, and three villains who just had the carpet pulled out from under them before I could develop their villian-ness. Which means they may be good guys after all, or in spite of themselves, or something.

But I finished!

4th weekend!

Is everyone at 40k yet?

I'm not. In fact, I have not hit 30k yet. I haven't written since Monday. :(

My characters are being stubbornly quiet, so I"m shifting focus for this weekend to the up til now silent crew of my space ship. Dont know if I'll even finish, I"m about a thumbs length from giving up this time.

Tomorrow is the 15th, and you should (theoretically) have 25,000 words in your document! This past week is typically the hardest reported week, and this year it has been a bust for me. I have 0 mind power, but I hope to make it back in time for a big finish.

This weekend is a big push to reach 30k to be on target for the end of the month, so everyone dig down deep. The words are there, we just have to find the way to get them on paper.

There's an impromptu write-in forming, so if you are interested, head over to the 3rd weekend thread and let us know if you can make it. Keep your eye on that thread for place, date and time.

Keep up the hard work! Now is not the time to slack off.

I'm your ML, Sheila. I'll be holding at least 4 events for November. The Kick-Off, a couple write-ins, and the TGIO party. Please consider attending the TGIO if you dont attend anything else. More than anything, that night is a chance to commiserate, celebrate and let off some steam with people who have just been through what you have. Whether you win or loose, I'd like to have a chance to offer you a toast.

Right now, Newtown seems to be a good place for our meetings. I'll be scouting out the Starbucks on S. State Street this weekend. They have an extra room that we can reserve for our events.

2nd Weekend

Hi guys!

I've been quiet all week, mostly to my overwhelming workload this week, and because my story has floundered, and I'm blaming that on my workload as well.

So, this weekend is serious crunch time for me. Please feel free to join me!

Saturday, I'll be spending the late afternoon at the Panera in Warrington. I think from 3:30 (provided nothing horribly wrong happens at the job site) till I get at least 3k words in. That'll take no less than 3.5 hours. (I can do 900 words comfortably in an hour.)

Sunday, again, I'll be spending the afternoon at the Panera in Warrington. I'll aim for 1 p.m., again till I reach 3k words.

On Tuesday, I'll be there no later than 10 a.m., drinking coffee and pounding away.

Hope I see some of you there!

First Snow & Vacations

Wow, first snowfall today. That was totally unexpected, and hopefully not a sign of things to come. Time to put the keds away and get out the snow boots, I guess.

Although I love snow, I'm practical enough not to want to drive in it. Good thing I have vacation saved up.

Speaking of which, I just took the 3 days before Thanksgiving off. That gives me a whole 4 days (not counting Thursday because of Family Stuff) to get some serious word countage in.

November Meet Ups: Proposals

Ok, we have 5 days till we can start!

I'd like to have our first meet up on the 2nd.

Possible locations:

Starbucks in Doylestown (by the court house)
Panera in Warrington (611 & Street Rd)
Cosi's in Newtown (I have to find the address)

I need people to tell me if they are available and which location would be best. If I don't hear from you all before Thursday, I will make an arbitrary choice. If I hear from everyone and it's undecided by majority, I will try to accommodate by mixing up times and days.

How to hit 50,000

Well, we've got a nice little community going here, and I hope to hear from all of you during November about your progress.

I've made 50,000 3 times. This will be my fourth NaNo, and probably the hardest for me, given my work load this year. However, I know that I can make the minimum of 50k. And that's about my creative limit, to date. After 50k, I will probably not write anything for at least 5 months. Last year, I didn't even try to edit!

How do I make it across the finish line? I set daily goals and weekend goals. And then I sit at my computer and type until I reach them. It's called the ABC method.

Apply Butt to Chair.

It's really that simple. But it doesn't work by itself.

I encourage everyone to join the chat rooms and participate in the word wars. That will really boost your count and allow your inner editor to take a back seat. Read the Dares thread in the Reaching 50k forum for inspiration. Dares are a great way to build something into your story that wasn't there before. (I did the purple pants dare my first year and got one of my most endearing characters that way.)

Also, allow your inner procrastinator (IP) out once in a while. The IP needs to feel like it's doing it's job, so allow for that in your planning. Go into the forums, talk to other people. I can recommend the Spork Room in the NaNoWriMo Stole My Soul forum. Reaching 50,000 is a good forum also.

Also, today I hired a cleaning lady. So I don't have to. :D

Any other veterans out there, please share your tricks for reaching 50k.

Kick Off locations: Possibilities

I've been thinking about what is in our area that is unique and worth going to see before November, and I can only think of one thing, really, that I know well.

How do you feel about a kick-off the weekend before Halloween, Saturday evening or Sunday, at Peddlar's Village? We can look at the carved pumpkins and get fresh fritters. Ogle the scarecrows. Eat at the pub. Talk plots and characters in awesome atmosphere.

I just drummed up a sleepy hollow plot bunny. *headdesk*
