I've always been interested in seeing what others will be writing this year, especially within our own region.

Awesome! Last year I had inter-dimensional travel, an angel-like entity with a split personality disorder, and a rain of pink leotards. XD But high fantasy FTW! It's too bad my high fantasy plotbunnies are in serious need of help. ^^;

This is my first year. I'm really excited about it. I'm going to have to make a conscious effort to turn off my inner-editor, because I have a tendancy to get through a few chapters, then go back and revise. I need to put on a shock collar or something, otherwise I'll never finish.
Genre: Sci-fi
Sub-genre: Military

I didn't finish last year, so I figure I'll just start where I left off and go from there. Unless that's Not Allowed (TM), in which case I have a second idea I can go with. Either way...
Genre: Fantasy
Not sure if I have a separate sub-genre

Yah, going with plot B.
Still a fantasy genre, but more magical than last years attempt...Sword and Sorcery with more Sorcery than Sword, I'd say.

I finally have a genre/subgenre!
Genre: Mystery-suspense. (Really, it's not too very suspenseful, but the whole thing is kind of a mystery solving thing.)
Subgenre: I suppose this is fantasy, the story presumes a very unlikely set of circumstances, although in general the story is fairly realistic and does take place in the real world.

I think "Sky Pirates/Flying Machines" might be a valid subgenre. Kind of a sub-sub(-sub?) genre of steampunk, I imagine.
Anyway, as for me.
Genre: SciFi
Subgenre: Slipstream
Sub-Sub-Genre: Suburban Anonie with Quantum Anomalies
Hee. Good times.

I'm now working on my old story, which is, definatively, a romantic comedy fantasy for the youth!!!!!

I guess technically my genre would be considered horror or possibly occult. I don't have a title for it yet. It's about a race of vampires, but nothing like the "normal" type vampires. They're a race that has existed alongside humanity all along. It's a little hard to explain in just a few short sentences but I really think I've got a unique idea that hasn't been done before. I just hope it comes out as good as it sounds in my head. lol.

Oh my gosh, you guys are doing excellently! We have almost the exact same word count, Dolentrean!
Noazmale, I utterly envy you. And your story sounds intriguing! Keep it up!

I'm writing fantasy (like usual. It's just my favorite genre and I can't seem to break free!) ;D
My main male character accidentally causes things around him (including people) to start dying when he gets too upset or sad, etc. When the "governement" finds out about him, they rally everyone to find him and kill him, and it's up to his parents and younger sister to find a way to keep him alive. Not quite sure what is going to happen here. I'm kind of making it up as I go (which, by the way, is the only way I can write!).
Oh, and Noazmale, you're story sounds cool! Vampires are hot, hot, hot right now! ;D

Hello! I met some of you at the write-in on Monday (I'm Allison, one of the ones who came for like half an hour, lol)...
Anyway, I think I kinda-sorta nailed down my genre: Action/Adventure/End-of-the-World/Romance. :-D
Still haven't decided what is going to cause the whole end-of-the-world thing... maybe my characters will never know... hehehe...

This is awesome, you guys! Flag Wrimos are so much more active this year than in the past two years, it's becoming epic. I'm getting excited and full of warm fuzzies from seeing you all post and meeting you at the write-in(s)! :D

Same here! This seems to be our best Flag year so far, at least in my experience. Total epic, guys! Keep it up! :D
How's it coming in general, by the way? I see good wordcounts, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you're not wrapped up in exposition or getting your novel hijacked by secondary characters. (I'm trying to doge both, currently. I'm almost in the green, though. Soon those secondary characters won't appear nearly so much, and rising action can start. About time.)

I am doing pretty good, way way better than I expected actually.
I never expected to be ahead of schedule, and my plot is going pretty far. This was my first shot at ever writing a Mystery and know nothing about it, but its going well. My character isn't the deepest I have ever written, but he is entertaining at least. And the case is actually developing a little. I expected to run close to the end of my plot ideas before the 50k deadline, but its looking like I will have pleanty to work with.
I must say I am very happy right now.

Awesome! Go, Doletrean, go!
I remember my first year. I too was worried that I wouldn't have enough for 50K. Partway through the month, though, it dawned on me that 58K (my final wordcount by the 30th) wasn't even halfway! It's amazing how those words can just accumulate on you.
And who said your characters had to be deep? Some real people aren't deep. XD So long as he's fun, it's all good!
