Do you have an idea?

A story that is begging to be written during the month of November?

Please share in the comments below.

I am currently torn between two stories. Do I write about the reluctant super hero or the boy who is allergic to girls?

My first idea is about a woman who has developed an unusual super power. She is learning how to deal with being "special" when she is asked to help save the world.

The second is a weird coming of age/road trip story about a young man who is allergic to females. He is drug from his safe haven by a girl who just happens to be a demon. She thrusts him in a new, strange world where they are forced to save the world.

(save the world is code for I have no idea what might end up happening)

What are you writing? Inquiring minds want to know!

My tween MC's best friend decides to make golems for a science fair project, but they actually come to life although they are all handicapped in some way (due to her mixed feelings about life). He also finds out (don't know yet HOW) that gremlins are tampering with the local airport's airplanes, and his mom is due to leave soon a on business trip, but of course no one (except his grandmother, who often has paranormal experiences) takes him seriously, of course. I hope to cover the themes of acceptance of disabled folk, transparency between parents and kids, loyalty, and forgiveness. And have a whale of a time doing it.

I really have no clue what I'm doing. There's a lot of various character ideas and vague plot scenarios...one actually involving the 'black hole machine' that was in use a few weeks ago.

Still not really sure at this point but, then again, the previous two years when I DID start with a semi-plan I never made it...so maybe playing it by ear this year will be a good thing to try?

Hi there! Relative newcomer here! Looks like I'm probably the youngest too...it always ends up that way, it seems.

I saw this thread and had to share my story. It comes with a lot of backstory to explain though (and hopefully that won't hamper my efforts to hammer 50000 words out of it. Or be interesting for that matter.)

So it's about 200 years in the future, and the world government creates an injection for "immortality", only it's not effective on anybody over the age of 20. Once the injection is taken (and re-taken every 100 years), one cannot die of sickness or old age, only accidents or killing (or suicide). Of course everybody flocks to take the injection (which is government mandated), and then there's a generation of people 20 and older that are doomed to die, and they watch as their children and such stay young and beautiful, but they age and decay and are shunned and become like pariahs. Then there are those that rebel against the government because they think immortality is wrong and the natural course of life is the right thing.

However, the dilemma with those that take the injection is that there would be, like, 300-year-olds in an 8-year-old's body. So pretty soon they figure out that they must wait as long as possible to take the injection, so that they would be 300 years old in a 19.5-year-old's body, not as much of a problem. But in the time of childhood between birth and 19 1/2 is when the children are the most vulnerable. Because of this, they are ultra-protected and lead very restricted lives until they get the injection.

This is where the story starts. It's going to revolve around 1 teen that has been raised to want the injection, raised in the strict environment (that maybe rebels, I'm not sure yet), and 1 teen that is a part of the "rebel movement" of people that think the injection is wrong and choose to age and die naturally (who lives as freely as he can, at least in a world where the government persecutes those of his lifestyle). I'm not sure if the two will know each other though.

I'm actually hoping to address themes like respecting the elderly, the price of immortality, the true course of life, the government's role in society, the teen developing beyond the scope of a parent's control, stuff like that. I didn't really understand how much the storyline entailed until I wrote it all out. But maybe having so much info will make this more fun...?

Here's hoping that I actually win NaNo this year! Bye! :]

Welcome, tammerz! Keep trying ... third time may be the charm, and from your backstory and outline, it sounds as if you have plenty to keep your fingers flying and your brain creating!

My novel takes place two years after last year's story. While the heroine is trying to rebuild her life, alas, another criminal with a nasty sense of humor drags her back into the law enforcement. I am ready to write . . . I think . . .

This is my second year with NaNo. This year, I'm going for two stories. Two stories equaling a total of 150k. Should be absolutely insane but fun. 75k per story isn't a bad plan.

I have no idea.

I checked out NaNoWriMo a few years ago but did not have the time, I am making time now!

I am torn between a modern fantasy type story or a science fiction type story. Gonna bounce some ideas off of my family before November 1 and see what they say. I don't know if I will make the cut by the end of November but I am going to try my hardest!

Go for it!

Mine is a fantasy story that begins fairly cliche and then wings off into the wild blue. Ordinary teen, finds out that his parents are actually champions from a realm of magic and high adventure (in fact, the realm that's the SOURCE for all the fantasy stories). The realm is threatened, and so his parents have to go back one last time and confront the problem. He goes with them, anticipating being able to join the fight and win fortune and glory.

Unfortunately, there's no part in the Story for him. Or any other Story. So, he has to stay back at the castle, which is where he finds out about the REAL threat. But since he's not part of a Story...no one's going to listen to him.

My advice (FWIW) is: write the one which most excites you. The one you daydream about. The one which seems to have little pockets of hidden stuff that you can't quite see because you haven't actually started poking around. The story or people that won't leave you alone. That one.

Everyone's novels sound so good! Mine is gonna be dull to most people, but I am so in love with my characters (my family's used to hearing about them as if they were real people) that I'm pumped about writing it, if only for myself. Well, I have an octogenarian friend who likes them and another guy who's a genius and published, but I think he just humors me when he says he likes 'em. Nobody else does. But I do!!

It's so great to see what everyone else is going to be writing about and to see that everyone is excited about their idea as I am. I am writing another historical romance this year. Here is a short summary:

After an accident left her crippled, Lady Deidre Langton insisted that the society which she could not go to would have to come to her. It didn't take long for those that made the trip to realize their mistake. Lady Deidre, once the toast of local society with hopes of a glorious season in London and an excellent match, had become a bitter shrew.

Though it was clear Deidre was content to live on her brother's estate for the rest of her life with only the occasional visitor, her brother refused to accept her forced isolation. He had every intention of seeing her married within the year and he had just the right man in mind.

Nathan Spencer, the Earl of Hounslow, remembers well the spoiled and selfish girl he met years ago when visiting his friend the Viscount of Luton’s home. So he has little hope that his friend’s plan to see his sister happily situated will be met with any success. Still in support of his friend, he joins the party at Luton’s home and finds a woman who is not as content alone as she would have them all believe.

I know what you mean. I was bouncing some ideas off of my wife earlier and she liked them all, which really wasn't any help but she's biased anyway! Now if I can get my 7 year old to sit still long enough for me to give him my spiel then perhaps that is something!

I have this whole time travel thing itching in the back of my mind but the mechanics of it elude me at the moment. It's like when you have something to say on the tip of your tongue and you can't quite get it out. Oh well, something will come to me.

This summer, I wrote a short story (which may actually end up being a novel, at some point) about a Cherokee male and a white female who married in the 20's-30's. My Nano Novel will be about the youngest brother to the man in the short story.

His name is Lucky Raven (he looks a lot like Billy Wirth, for some reason), and he's in love with Mina (who looks eerily like Horikita Maki, a Japanese actress), a Japanese-American girl he's known all his life. Her father doesn't like Lucky, and gives him a hard time at every turn.

Then Mina is found dead...or is she? ;-)

Lucky begins having nightmares and believes Mina is alive and sending him messages through his dreams.

He goes on a vision quest to discover his purpose in life...and to learn whether or not Mina is actually sending him messages.

He discovers some shocking news about who he really is, and discovers a family he never knew he had.

He enlists the aid of two brothers: John (who looks like Adam Beach), the main character in the short story, who he has always gotten along well with, and Joey (who bears a striking resemblance to Gregg Rainwater, from Young Riders), his biggest critic.

Lucky, with the help of his brothers, and others you can read about in his journal (link below), works to discover Mina's whereabouts and to rescue her...before her parents kill her for real.

After a rescue attempt is made, and Lucky finds a drugged, but very much alive, Mina, there is a battle between some very scary ninjas and those on Lucky's side. Mina's parents disappear during this fight and Lucky and Mina go into hiding, but is it enough? Will her parents find them? And if they do, what will they do with them?

And why the heck are they after them in the first place? O_O

We shall see. By November 30, it should all come out! ;-)

I have a toss up between two ideas.

One was a 5 page story that I did way back in 9th grade of High School. I wanted to go so much further with the story, but we had a page limit so I had to bring the story to a close before I was ready. Set in a medieval type fantasy, the main character is a girl around 17. She's "kidnapped" by a group of folk on search of a mythical cave that allows the owner to have control of the ocean surrounding their country. The main male character in the group only takes her along because she resembles the past sorceress of the cave (who was also his lover) and thinks that it is still the same person but with a missing memory. (still working out plot kinks)

The second story is also about a teenage girl around 16-17 in high school who belongs to no social group and feels shunned by the student body. When she meets the new male transfer student when he's picking on someone, she calls him a 'monster' for picking on those weaker than he is. Her insult may be a little closer to the truth than we thought....

The above story will be my sad excuse to emerge myself in japanese mythology :3
