I know Nano puts on one in like San Fran... but I was thinking we could do it sometime in Nov somewhere a bit more locally? I know there are a million places in this town that are 24 hour, but I was kind of hoping to do it at a coffee shop or something like that since I know we do have some people under the age of 21 and that cuts out casino cafes. We don't want to get anyone in trouble.
I know (at least through online looking) It's A Grind Coffee House is suppose to be 24 hours, but who knows, (it's on Eastern) I know the first full weekend (the 8th/9th) would be good for me... it also will give all of us who have family in town or going out of town for Thanksgiving a good leg up on our numbers.
I have no problem arranging it, finding the place, if others might want to do it. I know some of us have family/work/etc obligations, so you could always come early in the evening or the next morning or leave anytime you want (this would not be a lock-in)

Let me know. I want to get the ball rolling on this.

Okay, I know you are all thinking I am crazy, but hey, if I can get something like 3000+ words in a night, I say let's go for it!!!

You KNOW that I'm up for this. The good thing about all night is that the kids will be asleep, and my husband will be able to hold down the fort himself.

Count me in.

Sounds like fun. Let me know the when and the where and I should be there.

there's a 24 hour starbucks at flamingo and paradise. although, last time i was in there late (a few days after breaking dawn came out and i couldn't stop reading cept long enough to drive for coffee...) there didn't seem to be a lot of tables inside. there are a lot of tables outside though. there are 2 or 3 more 24 hour starbucks' as well. not sure of locations.

thank you Dawn for looking into that... I am going to check out It's a Grind soon to see if it's any good. Or if someone has been there (please save me the trip) I want a place with at least 10 tables with outlets near by so we don't all kill our batteries...

I know of a few coffee shops and I might go ask them if they would be willing to do a 24 hour thing for us. However, I dought it... plus I am sorry if we can't find a middle of the city location, when we are talking 24 hours, it's either a casino (which on a weekend can get very rowdy in the cafes) or whatever is left.

You know for a 24 hour town, there doesn't seem to be many 24 coffee places where writers can write!!! I also will be willing to bring a power strip to have more outlets if needed!!!!

Let's get working on this so we can get ahead of our word count so durning the holiday weekend we won't feel so bad if we miss a day or 4 of writing.

Possible consideration of perhaps doing it Friday the 7th? I can't do Sundays, and have to teach a class at church on Sunday morning. If not, I'll stay on Saturday night until about 10:00 or so, and that would be fine! :)

well how about this, starting whenever everyone wants to get there on Friday the 7th and leave anytime after that or come on Sat day/night only, make it a weekend writing party.... crazy huh???

I figure everyone can come and go as they please, I might not be there all night on Friday, but most of the rest of the weekend I will be typing my poor little fingers to the bone!!!

Kathe,

I found them too, I don't much about them, but thank you for looking into this. I think as of right now we only have a handful saying they are going, but as the time gets closer some will bail and others will agree to go... so I'd say 10 for now, thanks for looking into this.

If you need any help (since I got this ball rolling) let me know.

Laura

we will look into places with computers. I know Rejunate (I am sure I spelled that wrong) on flamingo near pecos has pcs but they close at 9P... I wrote alot of my novel last year there. Just an idea... oh and their pc's have internet access so you can upload your novel and write then email it back to yourself.

Great Kathe, and thanks for your help. This is going to be a blast. A weekend write-a-thon. Laura and I are also looking into other avenues such as perhaps a news story on our weekend writing venture which will help others know about NANO.

Also, we are trying to come up with fun fundraisers to help support NANO so we all have it to enjoy for years to come.

I thought about perhaps turning the write a thon not only into an all weekend writing session but perhaps a fun way to help support NANO. Perhaps sponsers for each work typed or something along those lines. Of course this is still in the thinking stages and is not cast in stone. The main objective is for all the writers to have fun.

Any suggestions or ideas?

This is a really cool idea if we decide to make the write a thon into a fundraiser as well. We can create a place to keep track of the sponsers for each writer here http://www.firstgiving.com/lettersandlight/default.asp?eventid=33191 which means we do not have to run around trying to collect the funds but the sponsers do it all online.

I am sure we can customize it to fit our write a thon weekend instead of the entire month.
Again what does everyone think?

A fundraiser isn't a bad idea, per se, but the second you throw that word in there, it gives me pause. I mean, sure, if I don't have to do anything other than show up and write, and walk out whenever I want to. I don't necessarily want added pressure, and I certainly don't want to personally ask for donations. But if we can get money for doing something that we were going to do anyway, I would support it.

That is my idea. I do not want to go out and attempt to get donations, but to perhaps raise money for what we are going to d anyway. Of course no one is obligated to participate in the fundraising in order to come to the write-a-thon.

Like I said I am still just sending out feelers on this idea and nothing is set in stone. I am just tossing it out to see what others think of the idea.

I know the idea of fundraisers do scare some people, however remember NOBODY has to do it if they don't want to. Also one way to help all of us, if you stop by a gather, try to at least buy a soda or a coffee since we might take up tables and outlets... Remember we are a places of business. Also I am going to talk to my boss about a big confrence room near my desk, probably a big NO, but hey we gotta try.

Have a great rest of the weekend and great week, starting to plot out your novels.

...Huh. Saturday the... 8th?

I... might be able to show up. I already booked the time off, intending to go to a CCG event that isn't going to happen. So I might show up, if I can convince myself that driving into Vegas on a weekend night is a viable idea rather than a suicidal oh-god-Californians-on-the-freeway-in-large-numbers idea.

OTOH, that's an hour, minimum, each way I could tap for writing, instead... Or for photography, since that's my other primary off-work non-game-related behavior...

Hey Guys.

I got a hold of the lady that runs elysium cafe and she said she would love to host us. She told me that she could give a deal on the computers of 5 hours for the 20 bucks...for those whom don't have lap tops, and for those of us that do, she said she has plentay of space for us to all plug in no problem.

She also said she would work out some deal with our group on like free coffee or something like that. I told her it would be the 8th tru the 9th from 9am to 9am...if that is correct and ok with everyone? Or did we want to start at 7pm on friday and go through sunday? let me know

I would like to go look the place over...maybe over the weekend..anyone care to meet with me and come with? if so PM me and we can work something out...

With me still being on massive pain meds I am not venturing far from home so I have not had a chance to look into a lot of anything

Laura, let me know when your are home and want to go have a look at the place and I will arrange to meet you there as well.
