I know this is a little early to plan one, but we might as well start now so that people can get it into their calendars. So are we going to have one (since November 1st is a saturday)? I would certainly try to get to one.

Thank you for starting this thread, Anna! We are having one for sure!

Last year we didn't do any writing at the KO. Are people interested in word wars and writing games, or would you rather just plain socialize?

I don't get out much so I don't know all the cool hang-outs. Where are your favorite places to go? Last year we had about twenty people +/- show up for the KO, so keep that in mind. (Last year we met at ABC on Hendersonville but that isn't set in stone at all.) Also keep in mind that our meeting places should be places that are handicap accessible.

Time: If we do the KO on November 1, I can't come in the evening. (My writing workshop is meeting.) Would anyone like to meet Friday evening or Saturday afternoon instead? I don't know when Paula's available, she might be able to make a Saturday evening kick off. If not, if there's a brave soul who'd like to volunteer to "run" the kick off party, please let us know! ;)

You're welcome.

Hmm I could make a friday or a saturday kick off. As to what to do, friday kick off=socialize, saturday=write. At least that's what I'd prefer. ;) It'd be fun to have a kickoff on friday that lasted until midnight, but I doubt there's many places open that long (that we would want or be able to write at).

Caffeind (sp?) on Merrimon Ave in North Asheville is a 24 hour coffee shop! I'm usually in bed by/before midnight so I don't think I could wing it.... except I'd be surrounded by caffeine! O_O No really I couldn't. But if any of you night owls want to write together at midnight, there's a place!

I've sat in Denny's for hours a few times.
With my sister and her friends on the HP7 book release, and the premiere of the 5th movie, and also with Restrict This after their show got cancelled when a kid broke his leg.
With my own friends, just for the hell of it.

It's always open.
I'd say Waffle House, but there's no way to really get everyone involved in a conversation.

but yeah.
I'd say somewhere with food available, because I get really bad late-night munchies.

This sounds like lots of fun. Games are good and socializing is too. Afternoon is fine with me, because then I will get to go to the workshop too.

When I read this I was like, "Oh wee a new person is coming!" and then the other half of my brain kicked in and was like, "Yeah, remember writing her an email earlier today?" Ah, blanking moments. Anyway! I'm glad you're planning to come! If you're working on anything, I hope you'll consider reading it to us at the meeting. Last week one person shared on the condition that it was purely sharing, no crits. So your options are open. :D

Just throwing these out there! Let me know if these sound fun to you.

1) To join in the Halloween fun, we could dress in a way that would somehow represent our MC. Like if yours is an elf, you can wear pointy ears. Then we can try to guess what/who each MC is.

2) NaNo Bingo! Another ML made nano-themed bingo and who doesn't love bingo? We would be playing for candy and extra NaNoWriMo stickers. You can see the sticker in this picture all the way on the left.

We are definitely open to any fun, cool ideas you might have!

Day & Time

Would Saturday (Nov 1) afternoon work for people? Time I had in mind was start around 4 or 5 and end around 6 or 7.

I would LOVE if we could also have the kickoff party at Atlanta Bread on Merrimon. Then people planning on joining my women's wrting workshop at 7pm wouldn't have to rush to another location.

Let me know what works for you!

Those times would work for me. I would go for starting at 5 and ending at 7 though as I'm going to be writing that afternoon. Again the issue is that I have no ride. So if someone would be kind enough to give me a lift there and back I'll be overjoyed that I can come and participate.

I'm pretty sure that I'm coming! And I'll be dragging along another fellow NaNoer here at school. She's never been to a meeting or write in before.

Dang, I do actually have to work that night and I have to be in at 4:30, so I probably won't make it. I really wanna meet you folks!! I don't work far from Atlanta Bread so if anyone's going to be there early let me know.
