Hey, kids! I'd love to get together with everyone before the craziness gets started so that we can all say howdy, make friends, and generally get cozy with one another before we stop talking and start staring only at our computer screens.

Right now, I'm up for suggestions for a location. The Ugly Mug in Soquel is cute, spacious and nice, but might be tough for some to get to. Coffee Kat in Scott's Valley is also spacious and friendly, but a bit north. There's also Marini's on Pacific - fun for so many reasons!! What are your suggestions?

We also need to think about dates: I'm looking at 10/17, 10/22 or 10/29. Let me know what you guys think!

I quite like the Ugly Mug and there's nearby free public parking, but it is difficult for some folks. I probably wouldn't make the trek all the way to Scotts Valley from south county (i'm lazy) but I could go downtown. I've not been to Marini's in a long time, but I thought I remembered it being loud and small, but that would've been years ago and I'm not sure my old lady memory is up to the task of accuracy. ;p

I like the Ugly Mug, and I'm good with the 22nd.

Ugly Mug sounds good to me! The 69 goes by there, right?

I'm not sure the 69 does go by there, but the 71 does for sure.

I would be down for the twenty-second, or possibly the seventeenth, and the Ugly Mug sounds great. (The 71 bus runs right past it, for those interested. I used to take it all the time to my old job in Soquel.)

I will not be able to make it but I will send you all good thoughts while I toil away down the street from the Ugly Mug.

I am getting excited about writing. I just have to get my behind in gear to make me a good writing space.

I could probably make it to the ugly mug on the 22nd sometime between 3 and 5, I have class otherwise.

The 17th is totally free, so I could do that.

For the 29th, see the 22nd. ;)

Great plan.
I can meet the 17th between about 12:30 and 4; the 22nd I'm open until about 6 pm; ditto the 29th.
Ugly Mug works for me.
Silly question, but what does "ML" stand for?

Looks like I'm a little late throwing out a suggestion, but Verve Coffee on 41st would also be a good option. It's spacious, the coffee is great, and several of the staff are NaNo participants this year. It's next door to Pink Godzilla. Anyone interested?

Here's a crucial question: do they have plenty of electrical outlets? Because we're not just about writing, we're also thirsty for POWER....

"ML" stands for mocha latte. Multilateral. Monkey lard. Married ladies. Mustachioed lotharios. More laughter. Mostly lilac. Morbid lethargy. Milliliter. Merill Lynch. Major league. Mortgage lender. Machine learning. Modern living. Mini llamas.

ML also stands for municipal liaison, an official representative of Nanowrimo that you can see, know, interact with, yell at, etc. If you have any questions about Nanowrimo, if you need encouragement, etc., I'm the one who'll give it to you. Just bear in mind that for me personally, "encouragement" might look eerily similar to "kick in the pants."

Well, yes and no. There are plenty of outlets along the bar that runs along the front windows, and a couple others scattered around. Power would be scarce if everyone wanted to sit at booths and tables, but I'm a manager there, so I can say with certainty that I could bring in a power-strip or two to solve the problem. Short answer (too late, I know): Power shouldn't be a problem :)

The Ugly Mug is okay with me, but not ideal (kind of out of the way for me, and can be crowded, though probably less so on a weekday). Not sure where would be ideal, though.

On the 17th, mid-afternoon is best (I have an optional weekly event in the early afternoon and a one-time event I think in the evening), but the 22nd and 29th I have class from 2-5 over at UCSC.

Awww! Don't be sad Li'l Buddy!!! I promise that I will make it up to you by showering you with attention at the first write-in you come to - okay? I'll meet you and greet you and otherwise make you feel that if it wasn't for you, there'd be no point in even HAVING Nanowrimo. Mostly because that's the truth!!

too funny

Well, major league mini llama, I hope to avoid morbid lethargy by getting a mocha latte when I meet & greet you in a few hours.
