This is my seventh year doing NaNo. The first year I wrote a murder mystery. It was terrible and I didn't finish. Since then I've written about genies, cannibal jungle women, zombies, carnies and dinosaurs. This year I'm bringing it full circle: another murder mystery. It's a genre I don't read and don't know how to write. I'm hoping the awesome word padding and plot mangling skills I've picked up over the last few Novembers will help.

Last year there was a reality show that was terrible, even by reality show standards, except for the first guy who was "voted off." He was cute and kinda buff and the occupation that popped up on the screen under his name was amazing: Scientist/Exotic Dancer. I looked up his bio on the site and sure enough, "A scientist by day, he is a lead Chippendale Dancer at night." The first words out of my mouth were, "He is TOTALLY going in a NaNo novel!"

So now he's the main character. One of his clients at the dance club will be murdered and he will have to use his awesome scientist skills to prove his innocence. I'll probably have a lot of CSI/Law & Order-esque pseudo-science in it. Maybe a sub-plot involving nefarious Science Company dealings. There will be a sidekick who tends to get in the way but ultimately proves his mettle. There will be lots of love interests and even more science-related double-entendres.

I don't have a title which really bugs me, but I'm sure something will strike before November.

What're you writing about?

This is my fifth year. I've done a teenage crime drama, a sequel to a teenage crime drama, a young adult novel about ballroom dancers and a murder mystery.

My NaNoNovel this year is about the heiress to a black market empire who falls in love with her life-long rival, who's the son of a rival family. I hesitate to say it's a romance, even though it is, because it's the second in a trilogy, and part of a much bigger story. There's family drama, and a wedding and a diamond heist, and people die. It's gonna be awesome.

It's called "Loyalties," which I kind of don't like, but I haven't come up with anything better and it's starting to stick, so whatever.

Last year, my novel was just something I started off the top of my head about a woman who works as an engineer on a spaceship and her role in a battle between their fleet and some evil aliens ... and while it was fun to write, I want to see if I can't make something different this time around.

I've had an idea in my head forever that I hopefully will be able to get out this November. Basically, a guy who works as an assistant to a glam rock band in the 1970's has to take the place of one of the bandmembers after that bandmember dies under mysterious circumstances ... the thought of having to take over someone else's life and live it seems like something I'd like to write. Plus, writing about bands is fun, and so is writing about people going crazy - rambling stream-of-consciousness ought to help me pad out this novel a good bit!

It's called "Aspects of Neptune" because Neptune is the stage name of the dead bandmember, and because there will be a lot of astrology involved (I used to be really into it in middle/high school - write what you know, right?)

This is my first time doing NaNo, so I'm pumped. My novel is about a time traveler who winds up in mid-1800's Japan, where there's a mysterious disease ravaging the city of Kyoto. He's got to find a cure for it without being distracted by the beautiful teahouse owner Yukari.
....I bet it sucks.

Mine is only partially worked out. I'm writing a horror/thriller type of story about a mentally unstable woman. To be entirely honest, I'm not sure where it's going to go. All I have for sure is the main character, and one or two events. Still, it's "supposed" to be an eerie thriller.

This is my...I forget..7? 8? 9? year doing Nano. 6th doing it officially on the website and all.

I'm not sure I'm writing a novel so much as finishing a couple.

Last year's Nano, Alive on the Inside is in massive rewrites, to the tune of an extra 30,000 words. It's erotic horror, and we're working on more horror.

Shell-Shocked a gay pagan inspirational romance also needs about 30K.

We're expanding "Showdown at Yellowstone River" to novel length as well. A western, obviously.

My editors would like me to write Nick and Corban the third of my dark future series. I want to work on Chain-male (ren-fest geeks in love) or this vampire thingy.

I have too many irons in the fire. But i will produce 50K words!

All advice happily taken...

This will be my third NaNo, though I'm 'technically not doing it' because I have too much school work. My mom said 'don't even think about it' but I told her it was too late and I had to at least try, right? so she agreed I could do it as long as it doesn't get in the way of school.

Anyway, this is my third NANo I won my first two...

My first NaNo was contemporary fiction and was about a girl who got luekemia, the second is science fiction and the MC, a cat, gets abducted by aliens and has to save the human race, but needs to be convinced to do it first. and this years will probably be fantasy and the MC will be a faerie who doesn't know it.

I'm debating with myself about whether to try again or not. If I do, my evil nemesis may have to be "inability to motivate yourself to write."

<---clicky on my name and then looky at my synopsis to get the clever and intriguing summary of the plot. The story itself is as follows.

This year's nano will be the story of Josse; a ninja who stands in a spotlight, the story of the revenge of a thousand-year-old grudge, and the story of the Phoenix; the greatest ninja in history, who exists everywhere and nowhere all at once.

When I first started in '06, I wrote a novel based in a video game world. In '07, I wrote a pseudo-ninja story, but never finished (I got to 60,000 words tho :D).
My novel this year will be a satirical anime parody (not based on a particular anime; the story is my own).

(Check my profile for a more detailed synopsis) wrote:
Four friends who've been together since birth and have been with each other ever since will be thrust into a world of combat and magic, and of friendship and betrayal.

I had this idea about a week ago, and I've only got the gist so far, but that's not stopped me yet. ;D
I'm certainly looking forward to writing it though. :)

My first year i wrote a mystery, or tried to, got my word count, but it was slow going. I realized i hated writing anything where there's a strong need to deceive or mislead your reader. Last year, i wrote a speculative fiction piece that i really enjoyed, and have continued working on, but i found that by 50,000 words i still didn't know what my crisis point was going to be. The whole thing got too big. This year my main goal is to write a story with an ending -- a goal much, much more difficult for me than getting enough words on paper.

This will be my second attempt at a Nano. Last year didn't go so well; this year is going to go better.

I'll be writing a Sci Fi novel set in a universe that I've written several short stories in, but never anything approaching novel length. This novel is totally unnamed, and has only the barest outlines of the shadow of a plot. Hopefully I'll get something fairly substantial worked out by the time Nov. 1 rolls around. I have numerous short story ideas all sitting in a notebook waiting to be written for this universe, but I'm having major trouble expanding any of them to novel length. And cramming two of those short stories into one novel would make it a bit weird.

Anyway, this year should be interesting. :)

Weird is fine ^_^ You should read my '06 nano--the same character died five times (and not a zombie) and it had talking toads and all kinds of things.

Mine, if I don't change it, will be about gathering clouds. Trust me, it's more interesting than it sounds. And it is a whole original idea, unlike my last years fan fiction.

New Day Dawns will be about the demise of Tiasar, an elven city of magic. The realm is in peril as the evil races are destroying the humans and dwarves. The elves feel compelled to offer their greatest strength - magical assistance. "A potion with a god you can be" is conceived. Unfortunately, it comes with deadly consequences. The elves begin to fight amongst themselves as some want to perfect the potion while others feel it is best left unmade. Despite it being banned, the House of Ellyisrae works to perfect the potion. As Tiasar is being ripped apart, news comes that the potion has worked and two human fighters, charismatic and unbeatable, are turning the tide of battle. A new day has dawned, it just wasn't the one the elves imagined......

Tiasali Ellyisrae is the daughter of the elves who create the god potion. She is supposed to deliver the potion to Jacob Aracumeth, ruler of Kaveldeth. Instead, she gives it to her love, a common soldier named Edward Montague..........

lol. My story was orginally going to feature pirates, but they became samurais, and the novel became steampunk, and then the MC ended up in the circus. ^_^

Actually, I just had a revelation. I figured out which way to handle a plot problem and then I stopped to consider how it would affect "Chaos in Kaveldeth" which occurs later. It exposed a minor plot hole I had in "Chaos in Kaveldeth" and never saw until today.

I'm following in Chris Baty's footsteps when he writes about, "No Plot, No Problem." Since starting NaNoWriMo I somehow arrived at the goal of writing in a different genre each year. First came science fiction, second was suspense-mystery, and I have no real idea of what this year's selection will be. I'm really torn between romance and fantasy as things stand. I indicated on my author page that it would be romance, but that may change at any given moment. Only time will tell.... Hey, that sounds like a good title!

I am going to go back to the world of my first nano novel and focus on the Green Guard (magic wielding warriors who could morph into frogs). I am going to have a missing prince that only his sorcerous aunt remembers, a group of talented aspiring sorcerers that are having dreams about him, a traveling group of musians and illusionist, and of course a greedy dark evil sorcerer. The main character is the missing prince who doesn't remember who he is.

I have mostly decided on a plot! And with... almost two full days to spare! This is basically a record for me.

Mine is typically a boy-meets-girl romance. It's lame, I guess, but I like it. Most of the plot is still a mystery to me but I know there will be a lot fun stuff going on in the plot. If that doesn't work out to be long enough, I might combine it with a second plot idea to get it to the 50K. :D

This is my seventh year (I think) as well, and I usually stick to sci-fi/fantasy.

I've no clue what I'm writing about this year - No Earthly Clue is my working title. I've got an assortment of characters who have been showing up over the last few days, but no MC. No plot. No world. Nada. Might end up as speculative fic. Dunno.

I've done every other sort of pre-planning besides no planning at all, so here goes!

For lack of anything else, since I just spent an hour trying to find a title, my YA Novel will be tentatively entitled; "Gnome is Where the Heart Is." Did you guess there were gnomes in it? Not the famous traveling gnome in the commercials although he may be a descendant of this bunch...

I've got the plot well in hand, Fuffydud helped me come up with the MC's name (cause I didn't like the one I had before) but it's part mystery and part fantasy. The MC knows who she is sorta, just not who her parents are and where she was born. She's a foundling, found by a caravan of gypsy gnomes. She is raised by them until its apparent she's just not gonna fit in and it's time for her to apprentice on. She's 13, full of wild magic, a strange birthmark and a bit of temper to boot but she's got an awesome heart. She falls into the mystery of where the gnomes are disappearing to (after she's left and apprenticed to a guild), gains a bizarre familiar and the unexpected eye of the King's Adjudicator who is the only one who seems to believe that just because you are not over 18, doesn't mean you are stupid and can't have talent for figuring out who done it. There's gonna be some interesting use of magic in this one. and she's not a pushover - trouble just seems to find her no matter where she calls gnome...

Can we WRITE YET?????????? ::sigh::
