Hey everyone!! I just wanted to give a shout out to all the writers in Illinois and yes that means outside of Chicago also. I am from Chillicothe, Illinois but have called Peoria home for the past three years after getting married. Anyway I just wanted to say "Hi" to everyone and let's kick butt this year with our word count. Now I am a fan for coffee as much as everyone else but I have to ask where else everyone else is having their meet and greet. Why? Simple, if I am sitting in a chair for thirty days of writing and possibly making my brain want to explode, then I want to kick off with fellow writer's and a BEER. Okay I said it !!!
So speak up, you know you want to. :)

;o) I certainly wouldn't mind kicking off with a whiskey! lol

Alas, we have lots of the under 21 crowd, so coffee it is for the kick-off in P-Town. But, I'll gladly kick off someplace for the over 21 crowd too!

Are you looking for some place close to the interstate, or could it be center of town? The best place I can think of is Panache--which is a coffee house/eatery/bar, they have ample seating, good food, good ambience (sometimes live music) and free wi-fi (for the purchase of a drink/food). It's on Sheridan Road in Peoria. If you're looking closer to the interstate, there is a Panera right off of Route 6/I-474 in north Peoria (N. Knoxville Rd) and another Panera off of 1-74 (Sterling Ave) with free wi-fi. Peoria Heights also has a great new & used bookstore with a wine bar in it that is good for a smaller crowd (seats 10 & under comfortably--any more than that it would get crowded). Let me know if you have a particular location in mind. I've lived in this area most of my life, so I'm pretty familiar with surrounding areas too. We'd love to meet up! =)

I don't know where or when but we will have to have at least one drink or shot since there are those of us who are over 21. We will all have to decide where the closer it gets to November.

I am actually working on that now. We may meet at my store a couple of times to write but the drinking to kick off the writing I am trying to figure out.

Maybe we can do a pizza party - like at Pizza Works in the Heights or the Driftwood Inn in Creve Couer? Then, there will be food, ample drinks & the under 21 crowd wouldn't have to be excluded from the festivities...just a thought. =)

Hi there, everyone! Good to see a few of us jumping in the word pool! I grew up in Springfield, now live just about 20 minutes south. Not sure I can get out for a meet and greet, but it sounds great!

I'm in Springfield. I know we have our own forum now but at the moment it's not too happening. A get together in Peoria probably wouldn't work for me. My husband and I work different hours, we have four kids and one car, well, do the math. But I'm not totally ruling anything out. If someone wants to plan something I'll see what I can do.

So far the only person who has said much of anything about Springfield has since moved to Southern Illinois. (See Springfield forums for details.) However I'm willing to plan something. How about next Sunday afternoon, Nov. 2nd. The main library would be a good meeting place unless someone has a better idea. I could also go for something on the 4th. Afternoon or evening. I work for the State so I have that day off.

Wow.
Most of you would have to drive 6 hours to get up to my place. I live in Waukegan(Lake County). . . yep, i'm that small little dot on the border of Wisconson. I live about 8 minutes away from the Genesse Theater, if your more framilliar with that. No meet and greets, unless your willing to meet a 14 year old and drive 6 hours.

Well, I would love to meet up with some other NaNoers, but, alas, my husband works full time, I don't drive (at the moment), and I live roughly 3 or 4 hours from Peoria. It sounds like lots of fun though!

That's okay a lot of us seem to live a little too far away or we are to busy to get together. That is why we have the online writing sessions and the word wars. I just hope to get my book finished, meet some friends that know what I am talking about when it comes to writing and share the same passion as I do. It is really hard to make someone understand what it is that makes you want to be a writer.
